Mod Post The future of this sub NSFW

After this sub was "accidentally" banned 2 days ago there's been a lot of discussion about the future of the sub.

Whether it was an accident to not, the possibility exists that this sub and others will be banned from reddit in the near future. In the event that happens what do we do?

I started as a mod here when the sub had only 3k members and my intention was to grow it to where it is today, and more. I last wrote about how the sub is moderated in 2022.

In principle, it would be better to have an trans resource site independent of reddit and corporate control. In practice its very difficult to achieve for a number of reasons

There's no point in moving to another site like Discord which is susceptible to the same risks as reddit. i.e. based in the USA. But what other sites are there, and where else is safe in the long run? Not just safe from hostile governments, but whoever runs the community losing interest, or data (susans.org lost years of it with a hard drive crash), selling out, etc.

Neither Discord and Facebook are indexed by search engines making it difficult for people to discover the resources in the first place, or finding information once you're there. It's like a black hole for knowledge; you put it in and it disappears. Personally, I'd never waste my time on building this kind of community on sites like that.

Reddit also provides, or did, legal protection. If a surgeon doesn't like what's posted here they can't easily censor it. And especially important, they can't attack me personally as its not my responsibility. Good luck going after reddit corporate.

As one of the largest social media sites in the world reddit makes it easy to build community, there's so many of us already here. People have mentioned sites like Lemmy as alternatives, but as far as I can tell they have tiny membership and few people have even heard of them.

A major advantage for me was reddit's wiki's. Few subs take advantage of them, but I believe its a great way to build and spread knowledge, and it has helped build this sub and raise the general level of knowledge. People have asked that it be copied off site, but if this sub disappears many of the links in the wiki will also disappear. Its not nearly so useful at that point. I don't think anyone else will build or maintain a wiki either, as it seems to interest very few people.

Regardless if reddit banning this sub or not, I'd like to see another site even better than this one, but I'm not sure its possible. Even more so while reddit hosts trans content as 99% of people will just come here anyway. Reddit basically killed old style forums years ago and nothing's changed since then.

It's even more difficult to build a trans surgery surgery community on another site while this sub exists because its so big and useful that almost no one would bother going there. And I'm not shutting the sub down to force everyone to move to another site. That would cause immediate harm to people who use the sub.

If this sub does get shut down I personally won't be trying to rebuild elsewhere. I'm burned out with this and don't have the energy.

If anyone wants to discuss how to build a successful trans surgery community I'm willing to offer my advice. I'd like to see it happen and it would be great if people had a place to go, and knew about it ahead of time. My main aim is to help people, and it doesn't matter to me where that comes from.

Edit

If you set up any external resources for surgery, hrt, etc please add them in the comments here. And I suggest people save the links in case this sub, or worse, all trans content on reddit disappears.

There’s a number of people talking about off site projects they are considering or actually doing. Persons you could get together and discuss if you could work together.

This looks interesting r/RedditAlternatives

There's some cisgender people wanting to comment here in support of Lemmy and other reddit alternatives. Rule 5 limits cis people on this sub, but I'll allow it on this post only and give them a flair "cisgender reddit alternatives". If you're one of them please don't comment elsewhere.

Lemmy Discussion

Lemmy keeps getting mentioned. I don't know much about it yet. Its pitched as Fediverse reddit replacement.

According to the statistics here Lemmy has 477,049 total users and 45,194 monthly active users. The trans instance https://lemmy.blahaj.zone has 8671 total users and 971 monthly active users.

This sub alone has 93,419 members, and in the last 30 days 4.6M views, an average of 20.2k daily unique visits, 4.0 subscribed, and 1.2k unsubscribed. The main FTM surgery subs in total have about that again, and the HRT subs are a bit larger in total.

This sub is then 10 times the size of the main trans Lemmy instance, and the total with the subs I mentioned is approaching the entire size of Lemmy. This doesn't include all the very main trans subs which are individually many times larger as I only included the important medical subs.

I have a few reservations about Lemmy, partly because I know so little at this point

  • Can Lemmy can scale to the size required if trans content was banned on reddit.

  • I couldn't find much information on Lemmy's moderation tools. Currently this sub attracts a lot of hate and chasers, which moderation easily takes care of. In the past the have been excessive amounts, but reddit has cracked down on it, and provides tools to limit it (not very good ones). Lemmy would be unusable without this.

  • Lemmy works by sharing data across multiple instances (computers) and it appears there seem to be privacy concerns about the amount of data on users that is shared.

  • What is to stop the owners of the instance shutting it down, or the data being lost for any other reason? Although not a corporate it makes no difference. There would be a massive loss of knowledge and history.

If anyone has expert knowledge on Lemmy I'd be interested in learning more.

The author of the Engadget article on the sub's ban made a YouTube video on the Fediverse

Considering Revision with Dr. Theerapong NSFW

Hello everyone, I got my SRS done a year ago with some complications (plus I tend to scar pretty easily).

I’m very happy with the functionality but not the aesthetics especially since there is a „bridge inbetween that I feel like makes it look less natural so I’m considering a revision.

I‘d appreciate what you think and if Dr. Theerapong could be the right choice. Also anyone knows his revision prices?

Thank you!

How did you wait for srs ?😇 NSFW

For those who had vaginoplasty, how did you deal with the wait? 💗
Hi girls! My vaginoplasty is in two months, and I literally count the days. I think about the surgery almost every day, and the closer it gets, the more impatient I become.
I’m curious how you all felt during the last couple of months before surgery. How did you deal with the waiting? Did you keep yourselves busy with hobbies, work, or other things, or was the surgery constantly on your mind?
I’d love to hear about your experiences and any advice you have for getting through the final weeks. 💕

Ranking The Trans Surgeries NSFW

Orchiectomy - 10/10 Easy recovery and helped way more with tucking / wardrobe than I expected. It was nice knowing that even if I somehow lost access to HRT I would be safe from testosterone. In some ways, this was the surgery I wanted more deeply than any of the others. Never felt any doubt or hesitation about it before or after.

BA - 8/10 Being able to display some cleavage / décolletage helped way, way more with passing and being gendered correctly than I anticipated. I love the way they look and feel, and how my body looks in clothes. Recovery wasn’t too bad. I lost feeling in most of one boob, including the nipple, and this still annoys me almost every day even a few years later.

Vulvoplasty - 6/10 Absolutely brutal, brutal long recovery, could not sit in a chair for 6 weeks. Not very happy with how it looks either, and have not been able to have an orgasm since. However, I am pretty ace and haven’t put much effort into trying. This is overall a part of my body I’ve never cared much about. I feel so much more confident using the women’s restroom and locker room though, and love being able to wear swimsuits and anything else I want. This surgery gave me a deep sense of safety. Finally have no dysphoria from looking at my body in a mirror, so absolutely worth it.

FFS - 9/10 This was a truly life-changing surgery, maybe almost equal to HRT in the way it transformed everything. Looking into the mirror and seeing a woman’s face is PRICELESS. Recovery was not as physically debilitating as SRS (although it was still very tough), but for some reason it was really difficult psychologically, especially before all the bandages came off and I could see that it worked. I had a lot of trouble dealing with the fact that I completely lost all feeling on the top of my head. This was a really nasty feeling, like having a styrofoam helmet with fake hair glued to my head. One amazing day, the feeling returned to my head, although not quite fully. For example, if water runs down my head, I can feel it physically moving down my scalp until it gets to the undamaged part, when the feeling gets stronger and I can also sense if it is hot or cold. I also feel that the scar from my lip lift is pretty prominent. Despite all this, I am super grateful that I was able to have FFS.

Laser / Electrolysis - 10/10 I’ve been doing this for over 7 years and am still working on it. Laser was very painful and did nothing. Electrolysis does the trick but is ludicrously slow. After a few years, we were able to get rid of the beard shadow on my upper lip, which made a huge difference. Sometimes while working on the area of the upper lip right under my nose, so many tears would come out that my ears would fill up, or the tears would soak all the way through my hair until they gathered at the back of my head lol. While the process has been grueling, the result is wonderful, and in some ways the fact that it takes so long adds to the sense of value and good investment. Finding an electrologist that I enjoy spending time with makes the whole thing a lot better.

Orgasm without sensation postop NSFW

Hi all- I’m 8 weeks post-minimal depth vaginoplasty and something kinda strange/unexpected is happening when I “explore”. A week ago, after about 2 hours, I had my first postop orgasm! It was incredible, though I was surprised by the fluid that accompanied it. Since then, while masturbating, I can feel the orgasm building, but when I get there all I feel is the fluid. It’s like the orgasm happens but I don’t have any sensation of it. Not like that first time (gooey warmth that spread through my abdomen), which hasn’t repeated itself (not for lack of trying). Has this happened to anyone else in their recovery/exploration?

I made a post yesterday but I'm redoing it with diff photos because the angle and quality of the photos from yesterday's post were frankly dog shit lol

Here are some better photos that give a good overall view of the results

I got the "old" method with Pang on Sept 9th 2026, and I am overwhelmingly thrilled with my aesthetics. I do not plan for any revisions at this point.

Also, orgasm/sexual function was confirmed on day 43 so doing well on that front too.

2017 → now: just over six weeks after FFS NSFW

Post image
38 Upvotes

I had facial feminization surgery on September 8. Here’s the timeline:

Top: Me in 2017.

Middle left: A few weeks before FFS.

Middle right: The day after surgery.

Bottom: Me now, just over six weeks later.

I’m a little shy about asking, but… what do you think? I’d love to hear what changes you notice, especially between the pre-FFS photo and now.

And if you’ve had FFS yourself, how did things keep changing for you after this point?

Sub Fascia Breast Augmentation in California? (Blue Shield) NSFW

Hey all,

After FFS, body contouring, hair transplantation, and soon to be done bottom surgery, I'm beginning to feel more dysphoric about my lack of boobs and I'm starting to look into breast augmentation.

I want to see a surgeon who has experience doing sub fascia augmentation and definitely someone who has experience specifically with trans patients and is able to provide appropriate advice and recommendations for someone AMAB.

I'm in NorCal but I'm able and willing to travel throughout the state to see a doctor who meets the criteria above.

Any recommendations from Blue Shield girlies who have had BA? I have a Blue Shield PPO so I'm hoping to have some options.

And the issue isn't muscle either

Has anyone else had the same issue? Bc every dr ever seems so confused whenever I bring it up

I've been thinking of that new pelvic widening bc of it, but id rather do something less risk yk

Looking for a place in Oregon that does hairline transplant that takes OHP NSFW

I have been looking for a place somewhere in Oregon that takes OHP for a hairline transplant. OHSU is where I'm going my other surgeries and they don't do hair transplants and I'm struggling to find somewhere else that might take my insurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sad about Dr. min Jun… NSFW

EDIT: (I came on emotional and wrote this and I regret some of my wording I’m glad I was given a lot of perspective and I’m going to leave the post up for now to allow growth and whatnot for myself but alas I see my errors and I’m thankful for you Reddit girls)
Throughout my two months of absolutely ransacking Reddit for photos of srs results from different surgeons there’s a very popular girl on here that has one of the best results out there that completely sold me on Dr.min Jun y’all know what I’m talking about literally perfect vagina (mundanewinter) I believe but the other results seem to vary and now there’s this sudden change in his technique that’s seeming like walking backwards with his work and it’s put me in a position of uncertainty and sadness i don’t like the gaping look im seeing from time to time im sure you girls can relate to this pain and uncertainty towards my SRS I just don’t know where to go at this point I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. I have a really good plan and I’m finally at the point of my life where with my new job all these things are possible rib remodeling, BBL, breast augmentation and finally the PPT srs I will however wait to get onto the discord for min Jun once I have some sort of consultation
but this is the surgery that WILL tear me apart. If I’m unhappy with my result, I don’t know if I can bear that kind of pain so I’m sad ultimately and I don’t know what to do. Please recommend me some discords to surgeons or info on what’s going on with Dr min Jun it would be a life saver. love you all ! Xoxo

Post surgery vaginoplasty feels NSFW

I am 9 days post op of my vaginoplasty, and recover is going pretty much as expected, with some added complications from Long COVID restricting my walking more than I thought.

The thing that I’m most surprised by is how weird it feels to wipe the vaginal area. I mean, it looks like a horror movie, with the swelling being high, and gross to look at but it also feels like it “dives” earlier than it did before. I wasn’t exactly well endowed before, but is there THAT much stuff there before inverting the penis that it almost feels like I’m wiping a ravine? The day after leaving the hospital I kinda had my “Oh God, what have I done” moment.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Day 15 - Breast Aug Postop NSFW

No new photos until next week! they’re a bit less tight but look similar to the last photo. I can see and feel the improvement for sure. I can raise my arms a bit higher than before- not all the way up yet and my back doesn’t hurt anymore. My left breast is STILL a bit larger + looks higher than my right one. I had my 2 week follow up yesterday. Dr. Salamas took a look and noticed the bruising worsened on the lower part of my left between nipple and incision (there was already bruises under both initially so i had not noticed a huge difference). He said since I am NOT in pain (if i was he said he would open me up, rinse the pocket, and redo so i that don’t have a pool of blood inside my breast), we will just watch it and to come see him weekly. He also said to continue the massages i’ve started. I did not mention to him but I instantly realized the bruising could be caused by me driving wayyyy too early while I was at PEAK soreness and I drive with my left hand so it actually was hard but i was determined😭 (do not be like me) make sure to actually get that 1 WEEK rest after ur surgery. Anywho, as I was leaving their office,
one of the girls working in the front recommended I get “Arnica Gel” for my bruising and I got it the same night! I used it last night on both boobs and the BRUISING IS GONE this morning!!!!!!!!!!!! u guys this is crazy. I can’t wait to go to my next appointment lol. Once these babies D&F I am going to feel so goooooddd

Femlar with Dr Anna Sluvsky of Facemaker Clinic NSFW

Has anyone had this with her?

Is it actual femlar or just using the namesake?

Its a lot cheaper than James Thomas or Dr Mainka who I was going with which makes me consider it. But i don't know really what she is performing or what the results are.

I tried to question her assistant but its clear she doesn't understand what the surgery really is.

Intimacy after the 8 week checkup GRS NSFW

Hi everyone I’m close to my 8 week checkup for a PIV where they will clear me to start exploring externally from everything they’ve said. I will ask them at the post op but I was just wondering if they clear me for externally exploring would it also be okay for me to do it with my girlfriend?

I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences or they went completely solo without their partner until 12 weeks?

Waiting for consult for vaginoplasty at Legacy in Portland. Stressed about how little I know right now. NSFW

I got referred to Legacy by Kaiser. I believe that's the only option I have through my insurance. I have my referral in and I've been told a consult has a bit of a wait right now, maybe March next year.

I don't know who I'll be working with. Does anyone have any information on that pipeline?

*TW* (BLOODY PAD) Bleeding won’t clot? NSFW

Post image
35 Upvotes

Been having some light bleeding from my upper labia minora/clitoris region? Not sure what it is I’m looking at everything is still swollen 8 days post op

Today I went to use the restroom after dilating and said area began bleeding considerably into the toilet

I went to bed and applied a pad for an hour till it stopped, but then I slowly got up and noticeable bleeding returned.

I’m now lying in bed, with another pad. I am worried, what am I gonna do? How is it going to clot if I have to keep getting up to use the bathroom/get food? I already messaged my doctor explaining the situation, waiting for a reply

How much do 360 liposuction and a BBL cost? NSFW

I’ve been searching the group for information on the costs you were quoted for your surgeries, but it seems that for almost everyone, the expenses were covered by insurance. I’m from Europe, so I would need to know the actual price.

I haven’t looked into this topic in great depth, so I’m not entirely sure what I want, but my goal is to add volume to the area between my waist and thighs—since I have broad shoulders—and I can’t afford both surgeries.

Help with choosing a revision method? NSFW

Hi y'all,

so I had my srs about a year ago (penile inversion) and well, they didn't show me how to dilate there because on day 5 when they wanted to show me how, I was way too afraid to do my own dilating just yet and every other day when I asked them to please show me how to dilate they just never came back to show me how.

And now I basically never dilated my canal correctly (it's complicated) and my situation is basically that my canal is completely closed and I have my revision next week (cosmetic stuff)

They said they are gonna look at it then they, and are gonna determine if it's just a "stenosis" or if ive lost most or some of my depth too.

And honestly I am terrified of next week, I feel so incredibly stupid for fucking up my own post op care, and loosing all of my depth would be a horror scenario.

My surgeon only does revisions with a skin graft and if I would want sigmoid colon or ppv (if I need it), then I'd need to find another surgeon, which is another substantial hurdle.

So, what would y'all say? Which method would be the best and why for a case like mine?

And if anyone has had a similar thing happen to them, I'd really appreciate some input regarding what my chances likely are for next week, or rather how it went for you.
