Mod Post A Change in Discourse

Hello everyone!

We have an update we'd like to share with you all regarding how we discuss a few topics here on r/MtF.

We have noticed a growing trend of words, phrases, and discourse that originates from several different online spaces which do not share the same set of rules we have established here in our home.  We all have come to expect transphobia from the outside, and you make us proud by being quick to report posts or comments that break our rules.  Your consistent efforts in keeping our community safe are not taken for granted and it truly does help us moderate a subreddit of this size quickly and efficiently.

Transphobia from within the community is more complex and challenging to moderate at times.  We have taken steps today to guide us all along a path towards a healthier community discourse, and we will be relying on your continued support in this endeavor.

Containment of Dysphoric & Transphobic Language

Each subreddit exists for a specific purpose.  This subreddit is dedicated for transfeminine people to have a space of our own to discuss our lives as it relates to being trans.  We have established a set of rules we hold ourselves to that serves as our guide in protecting this space.  There are other subreddits which have their own set of rules and expectations that work for their communities, but management of dysphoric and transphobic language is one such rule that we are expanding in Rule #3 Be Respectful.

Going forward, we will be removing posts and comments that contain slang words or phrases that tear ourselves or each other down on the basis of transness.  Other spaces are free (and have their own reasons) to converse as they see fit, but it will not continue here.

In addition, discussions of several other communities consistently pull in an influx of people from those communities and lead to conflict here; to prevent this, we will also be removing posts or comments that name those communities.

Expanding Rule #3

Starting today, Rule #3 will additionally cover:

  • Self-imposed or weaponized dysphoric words & phrases used in various online spaces (4chan, X/Twitter, Transmedical, etc.)
  • Links to the above spaces or communities

The ability to link to several subreddits and some websites has been removed, but the list is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Any posts or comments that mention words or phrases that go against this rule will be filtered or removed, based on their context.  This too is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Users who intentionally attempt to circumvent the rule are subject to temporary and permanent bans, which will be handled by moderator discretion.

As our head moderator said 7 months ago,

"Going forward, our focus is simple: keep this a space where people feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves without fear. We’ll keep listening, keep improving, and keep showing up for you—but we need your help in doing the same for each other. Take care of yourselves, take care of one another, and let’s move ahead together."

Funny Ate at Korean BBQ, sat in the 'Trans' section

Had Korean BBQ tonight and sat with a lovely waitress, whom I believe was trans.

Then halfway through my meal, the restaurant sat a pair of, again, I suspect, trans women next to my friend and I.

Not wanting to clock people, to make them uncomfy, I didn't say anything. I was happy to be near them!

Just kinda weird we all got sat next to each-other 😆

Also, if any of you are out there, hello! You were all so pretty :3

Euphoria Got boob envy from my trans friend

• Upvotes

So, I've been out for almost six years and on hormones for two. They came out two years ago and went on hormones about a year ago.

Last night they were wearing a top that really showed off their boob growth and cleavage and they've definitely surpassed me. Which, happy for them and a bit envious. And then realizing this morning that that's probably the same sort of feeling a lot of teenage girls have when their friends are more blessed by the boob fairy.

Also haven't had that same experience for my other girl friends, cis or trans. I think it's specifically the fact that theirs have grown past mine when we're on a similar timeline that did it. Everyone else just has always had those at that size so I'll admire but this one hit differently.

Definitely one of the weirder moments of gender euphoria for me so far.

Discussion Am I Weird for Getting "Excited" at the Prospect of My Friend Dressing Me Up? NSFW

Super loaded question off the bat. Essentially just what it says in the title.

For some extra context, I(16MtF) have a friend (16CF) who texted me the other day. She asked what my style was. When I asked why she'd ask me that, she said she found something cute online (she hasn't shown me yet) wanted to style me.

I felt... aroused???? Idk, it was like a mix of happy, sad, disgusted, and aroused.

Am I weird??? Am I gross? I've been asking myself these questions ever since that interaction, and I wanted to get an answer.

Book burnings, bans on public gatherings and the fear of knowledge; nescience - permeates the darkest parts of human history.

Typical, stultified behavior.

Edit: Look who finally showed up to prove my point 🙂

Here's what was deleted on my end for posterity. I guess spreading awareness about the attempts of others to harm us, falls under rule 9: The unspoken rule lol

Venting Didn't think my mother could hurt me like this, feeling a bit lost TW: family, misgendering

I'm 26 and live with my parents and adult brother. I've been out to my mother for 3 months, but not the rest of the household. At first she was a lot more careful with her language e.g. by dropping nicknames that contained "mister". I am quite independent and don't communicate much so there have been a few times where she asked something along the lines of "are you still doing this" to which I told her that I was and just needed a lot of space.

In the past month or so she has really changed and started actively un-affirming (yep thats a word) me. "thats how I know your my son, I'm so proud of you son, etc." and also returned to masculine nicknames, calling me guy, dude. All this is coming at a time where I have never felt more myself, so content, so proud to be who I am, so optimistic about the future. I don't know. Even before her doing this it was really uncomfortable for me to talk to her about my gender; I feel so incredibly confident being me around other people recently but still it feels weird trying to talk to her about it. I feel like I need to address her behavior for my own sake but I'm really worried about what she'll say.

I feel like the worst part is how sincere she seems, I feel like I look at her like a deer in headlights when she says this shit and she looks me in the eyes and just smiles. It's really weird I've never felt so incredibly distant from her, she feels like a completely different person now.

Venting trying to boymode with D cups is exhausting

thats all pretty much. im like 8 months on E, closing in on 9, and i'm still boymoding. It isnt really working either, like, I get stared at like im disgusting whenever i go out in public and ive caught my own family and neighbors staring at my chest. What do I even do? I mean seriously I just dont know. It's not like im flaunting them or anything, I wear thick hoodies and stuff but theyre just so noticable. Noone has talked to me about it and I don't pass so I don't really want to come out, it's not even about passing its just so much work and its scary i'd rather not. At the same time, I don't really know how much longer I can boymode for, for my own sake. I think I just do it because it hurts less when im deadnamed and misgendered by my family (im out to them). Anyway, this is really all over the place idk. i just dont know what to do. i dont want to be out yet and i dont have the money for a new wardrobe, or the mental capacity to deal with transphobia if i do come out 3:

Dysphoria examples of mtf voices that sound like the average cis girl?

i notice a lot of time, listening to transfems online, theres this identifiable.. undertone that i cant describe to the voice that makes it often quite obvious im talking to a fellow transfem, or when im watching youtube and find a creator i didn't know was transfem i can hear it in the voice. i know theres cis women who have voices like this, but it isn't the average cis woman, and i want to sound like the average cis woman, so it is really dysphoria inducing and demotivating to hear this same thing over and over.

however,

that being said, i know survivorship bias is a thing. im not going to clock an MTF voice as sounding like the average cis woman because it will be indistinguishable, therefore im not going to know and have that to cheer myself up.

could yall provide me some examples of girls who started with really masculine voices going to sounding like the average cis woman so i can give myself some actual motivation to start voice training? thank you ladies

Help How much did your body hair decrease/change?

I know facial hair doesn’t disappear on HRT, but how much does HRT actually do for your body hair?
Since laser removal takes so much time, I’m asking this now, so if necessary I might as well get rid of other parts right away too

Celebration First time using the ladies room!

Heyyy girlies,

Tonight was my first time as an adult using the ladies room!! I was attending a local art school musical and it was.. amazing! While I was there, my friend insisted I check out the bathrooms because they are fancy, I was wearing really cute makeup and a fall inspired fit for the play, so I figured why not! We used the ladies room nbd, and I even used it again during the intermission by myself! So affirming, I didn't even really get a second look, I'm proud of myself and so thankful for my friend for pushing me in the right direction to truly own my identity.

Advice Question Estrogen without blockers?

Just discovered it only costs about £30 a month for estrogen where I’m from, whereas blockers are into the hundreds. If I just take estrogen without blockers will this help or just mess up my hormones and make me unwell 🥲

Discussion I have no idea if I actually pass

Every time I go out I get she/her/ma'am-ed, but I live in a very progressive area, so I always think that people are just being nice. I feel like the only way to truly know if I actually pass is to have an "ewphoria" moment, like being catcalled, or be in some way pursued by a straight man, but it feels extremely wrong to wish for that, especially while being married to a woman. It just makes me feel like less of a woman that I've never experienced any of that. Maybe I'm too old for it? I'm about to be 35. I think that's about the age that cis women start to report less of it.

I should probably be more grateful. I got to skip the harassment phase of womanhood. And does it matter if I "actually pass" if on the surface I'm being treated like a woman in public? Probably not. But dysphoria is weird. As is starting to transition in my 30s. I guess I'm just worried that I'll find myself in a less progressive area and get clocked by a bigot who wants to let me know it. I'm not very confrontational, and without the experience I'd have no idea how to handle it.

Help Just a trans girl looking for someone to talk to today

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, sorry to bother you all.

I'm 28, and I started my transition a few months ago. Since then, it feels like my whole life has been falling apart.

I've lost friends, my family situation has become a nightmare, and I have to hide who I really am at work because I'm surrounded by transphobic and misogynistic people.

For months, I've tried to get my parents to understand what I'm going through. I've tried talking to them, giving them time, keeping our relationship together, but they've mostly avoided the subject and acted like nothing was happening.

And sadly, today things completely blew up between us. We had a massive falling-out, and I honestly don't know if there's any coming back from it.

So here I am. No friends, possibly no family anymore, and a workplace where I can't even be myself.

I don't want this to turn into some massive pity party. I know there are people out there going through much worse things than me. But fuck, I'm lonely, and today has been really, really hard.

I just need some human connection. Someone to talk to, laugh with, play games with, or just take my mind off everything for a while.

So if anyone's bored today and feels like chatting, please feel free to DM me. I'd genuinely appreciate it.

A little about me: I like to think I'm a pretty interesting person. Or maybe I'm not. Fuck knows anymore, haha.

I'm a huge gamer, pretty much into all kinds of games. Lately I've been really into sim racing and Deadlock, so if anyone wants to play something together, I'm absolutely up for it!

I'm also into fashion (you can probably tell from my profile, although most of my pictures are pretty old by now).

And I absolutely love conversations, whether they're about deep philosophical questions, politics, life, the universe, or the dumbest shit imaginable.

So yeah, if you're bored, looking for a gaming buddy, or just feel like making a new friend, hit me up.

I promise I'm usually a lot more fun than this post makes me sound. 😅

Thanks for reading. ❤️

Advice Question Name advice

• Upvotes

I'm thinking of socially transitioning because I've been putting it off for too long, and I have a name I adore but I'm not sure if it sounds too childish or "cutesy"- Blossom. Am I overthinking about this because I really really like the name but I'm not sure if it is unusable

Advice Question 3 months into HRT, when do the dramatic changes start? NSFW

I am already experiencing a lot of changes already, things like loss of random erections, nipples getting sensitive and skin in certain places getting softer and my hairline coming back

But I want to know when things like body hair changing and my face changing because I unfortunately still just look like a man (a hairy man unfortunately 😫) and im trying to be patient but it does get a bit disheartening at times

Any advice on this or has anyone else felt like this?

Euphoria Life is so good right now

I really hope me making this post doesn’t jinx it but life has been so good lately. My best friend who used to always call me my dead name now calls me my new name and some cute girly nicknames like Eeve and Avy(my name is Avery and I love the Pokémon eeve). I love being a girl. It is the most beautiful thing. I’ve never felt happier. There are some days where I feel like shit, but at the end of the day im a girl and I’m so happy to be.

Celebration Finally done cooking

It’s a weird feeling, but I think I have finally “finished” my transition. I have ‘trans’d’ so to speak.

I’ve been on hormones a bit over 4 years, and I’ve had bottom surgery within the last year.

When I first started (at 30) I never in a million years thought I would look feminine, let alone pass. I am lucky enough to be living stealth and today I had the realization that living as a woman just feels natural now, and it’s my new norm.

I still have dysphoria days, there’s parts of my body that I don’t like and would change if I could, but I’m so incredibly happy that the outside finally matches the inside.

Just wanted to share a positive experience from someone who was very skeptical in the beginning.

When I first started my transition I thought posts like this were full of it, but if you’re at the beginning, trust your older sister when she tells you to trust the process 💜

Venting Gender health doctor denied me HRT at consultation.

Hey y’all! I just wanna throw a quick vent out here about my consultation appointment at my local gender health clinic since it really upset me and maybe some other people can relate :)

For context, I am a 25 year old trans woman and I live in the southern US. I am still fairly new to my transition, and my goals are to be a pretty gym girl 💕 I’m at just over 2 months since my egg cracked and I have been doing research on my transition ever since! Discovering this part of myself has really made me lock in and find out that I never really cared about my body because I didn’t like the one that I was given. Now, I’m 2 months strong in the gym and I am making great progress!

I’ve had thoughts about maybe being trans in 2022 ish, but i shoved those down quick because i was scared of what would happen to me socially and i was in too good of a situation to give that up i guess :/

Back to now though, I scheduled an appointment at my (relatively) local gender health clinic that’s 2 hours away from me to start on HRT roughly a month ago. My initial appointment was set for February of next year, which was very scary for me, so in the meantime, I figure I will start via Plume. I ask my local clinic to be put on the wait list, they say it’s a long list i say that’s fine, and i start my membership with Plume!

The thing about Plume is, when my consultation appointment with them comes up, i get a message from my provider saying they are not licensed to give care in my state. Okay.. whatever, i just take it i guess and they start the process of finding someone else for me.

Come to now, just this Monday, I get a call from my local clinic saying that i am next on the list and they can bring me in on Wednesday! I am so excited that i agree and tell plume that i actually want to move forward with my clinic nearby, so they cancel everything and give me a refund and i’m set.

Come time for my appointment at the local clinic, I talk to the doctor and the whole thing is a questionnaire. I was expecting something like this, but the way it was structured felt like a quiz, like there were boxes that I needed to fill in to pass the test.
I guess i gave the wrong answers because at the end of the questioning, she tells me that she believes that i do not need to start hormones as of right now, and that i should check back in 4 months after talking more about it with my therapist.

While i don’t show it to her face, this enrages me because it made me feel like a fraud, like im just coming into this place for a reason that isn’t valid.
Like i’m not “trans enough”.

Was i supposed to come in dressed some type of way? Should i have said some specific thing that made me a definite trans woman?

I know my transition goals aren’t the most typical, but i didn’t think that would disqualify me from even starting :/

I want to be a buff woman who might look a little less feminine than what other trans girls seek, but that’s my choice! I still want the boobs, the body. I want to be a woman.

So now, i’m starting back with Plume and my consultation is first thing next month!
I really wanted to start HRT in October tho :/ but it is what it is i guess.

TLDR; Struggling with getting access to HRT and i’m upset.

Bad News National estradiol shortage now includes injections?

So just got off the phone with cvs, apparently the national estrogen shortage now includes injectables? Apparently only one store in my area has it in stock and I can’t get them to answer the phone. So that’s going great. Checked the news but I’m not seeing anyone reporting on this so maybe it’s just a “my area” thing and they’ll get more soon?
