How-do-I Tuesday Looking to hand draw on my daughter’s Owala - what should I use?

• Upvotes

I bought my daughter an Owala for her birthday and I am wanting to do hand drawn personalizations on it, but am unsure what would be best to use that could hold up to daily use and washing. I have thought about oil based acrylic paint pens and then sealing with mod podge but am worried that will smudge the paint.

How-do-I Tuesday How to get hand puppet ears to stay upright

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi…I have this hand puppet that a friend and I purchased during a holiday last year. The construction is complete rubbish, but the silly thing ended up having significant sentimental value to us both. I would like to fix the ears so they will stay erect/stand on their own. Does anyone have any suggestions? I opened the stitching on top of one of the ears so I could better see the construction, and it is just a thin piece of cardboard inside. I stuffed a little poly-fil in with the cardboard, but it did not help very much. Lastly, the inside of the ears, (where they connect within the head), are sewn shut, so not designed to be manipulated with your hand. Thanks in advance for your help!

Would anyone know where I can find these blanks? I’m looking for the exact same likeness. I have used Google Reverse image without success. The hats do not look the same. Is it possible the hat is 2 additional pieces?

It's about 9.5 x 8 cm. Waxed Crazy Horse leather outside, suede-look lining inside.

2 snaps, 2 outer card slots with a thumb cutout so a card can be tapped to pay without taking it out, a coin pocket on a spring frame with a magnet, and a full-length slot for notes. Every seam is stitched by hand, by me or by a small workshop in Ukraine I work with.

Happy to answer questions about Crazy Horse or hand stitching.

Discussion Difference Between Hand Embroidery and Needlepoint?

Hi guys! So I've been hand embroidering and cross stitching since I was little and the emergence of needlepoint has been so exciting. I'm not familiar with needlepoint honestly but recently went to a store nearby that sold needlepoint canvases and supplies. I had no idea how expensive it was! I can understand the upcharge for handpainted canvases, makes sense.

Does anyone know why hand embroidery is not more popular? I could be so wrong but I kind of feel it is more affordable? I guess it depends on what project you are working on as well though given the cross stitch and needlepoint canvases are stronger plastic/aida vs hand embroidery which is delicate muslin/organza.

Curious to hear your thoughts and learn more! :)

Finished Craft I Made Tie-dye flower hairpin tutorial✨

Supplies: Copper wire, hair pin, tie-dye fabric, B-7000 glue, filigree mold, scissors, cotton thread, pearl beads (loose beads work great. I got a mixed box with different sizes, super convenient) Steps: 1. Cut a long piece of copper wire, fold it in half and twist into two strands. 2. Wrap the copper wire around the filigree mold to shape petals. Set them aside when finished. 3. Apply B-7000 glue to the wire flower frames, lay them flat on the tie-dye fabric, and leave to dry. 4. Once fully dry, carefully cut out the flower shapes and trim frayed edges. 5. Assemble the petals however you like. I made groups of five petals with one pearl as the center. 6. Tie the finished flower gently onto the hair pin with thread, and you're done ✅

When you need an idea for a new painting, you can look for interesting objects in your house and paint them however it makes you happy the most.
I love finding cute plants, decorations and animal art and then play with colors to make a visual story with them. But then also after a painting is finished, use that painting as a decor for another composition with whimsical things and nature.

How-do-I Tuesday How do I connect these parts of a Halloween lamp post?

Thumbnail

I‘m currently working on building lamp posts for the Halloween evening.

A friend printed this lovely lantern, but I‘m currently struggling with how to make a stable connection between the lantern and the post.

Currently, I added the small plastic thingy (marked in red(„) to the bottom (lantern is upside down in the pics). Underneath would only be a larger, round hole.

Ideally, I would love the post-connector to be removable, so we could use the lantern as a hanging lantern during the rest of the year.

I‘m also uncertain whether glue would be strong enough to hold the lantern to the post.

Any ideas?

Please feel free to ask clarifying questions, English is not my first language and I often struggle to get the point across.

Pics show:

1 - lantern with the bottom side up

2 - lantern with the post-connector placed on top

3 - inside of the lantern, there are 4 holes available

How-do-I Tuesday Need advice for turning 5 finger gloves into 3 finger

Post image

I am making a costume for my kiddo and he needs 3 finger gloves that are functional. I was hoping to use winter gloves like the picture. Should I cut and sew two fingers together somehow? My worst case plan is glue two sets of the fingers together so they stay fused but I’m hoping to do it a bit better than that. Any advice? It will be pinky&ring then middle& pointer.

Discussion Resin for molds

I make miniature figurines and have hand sculpted items from polymer clay and made my own molds.

I'm really struggling to find a medium to produce these molds.

I've been using hydrostone plaster but cannot for the life of me get it right. And I do all the correct steps, I use rubbing alcohol to coat the molds, I let the mixture rest, I pour it in slowly after coating hard to reach areas with a paint brush and I burp the molds.

I'm still getting thousands of air bubbles, big spots, areas that are fragile and it comes out very powdery and cracked and dry looking.

So I'm on the hunt for an alternative. One of my favourite artists is Johanna Parker and I know a lot of her items are said to be made with resin. Does anyone know what kind of resin? Ideally it wouldn't be transparent, and as every piece will be hand painted, it needs to be easy to paint. I also don't want a resin that feels plastic.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

How-do-I Tuesday Advice on what glue to use for cardboard?

I enjoy playing board games but have recently run into storage issues. A lot of board games have empty space inside and aren’t space efficient. I’ve stated consolidating some of games and their expansions into large cardboard boxes.

But instead of just tossing out the old game boxes, I was thinking of cutting some of the art from the art boxes and attaching it to the new large cardboard boxes. How should I go about this?

How-do-I Tuesday How do I make him a brunette without his hair getting stiff

Post image

All I have in my disposal right now is a fabric marker (Apple Barrel) and regular acrylic paint. Can either of those work, or is there a better alternative to paint his hair brown? He’s made out of 100% polyester and I don’t want the paint to stiffen up the fabric too much.

Not my image, just an example.

I’d love to see how you display your brooches. I’m looking for ideas or tips on how I might display my mom and grandmothers old brooches. I’m thinking some sort of framed fabric to stick them in.

Material Monday What craft to use on these headphones instead of just tape?

Thumbnail

I really hope this is the right flair to put, I’ve never visited this subreddit and I’ve had a real lapse in crafting since my hands have gotten more rigid and can’t crochet.

I wear these headphones everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. They’re not broken, they’re only about a year old, but my hair gets stuck in the hinges and gets ripped out so I put electrical tape around it.

I’m wondering what I could possibly do with these so it’s not so embarrassing to wear at the store. I’ve thought about gluing it and I can decorate it with some stickers or something, or maybe some washi tape in a design so it looks intentional and not just like broken headphones. Anyways thank you
