Hi everyone,

Over the next while, we (Mod team - myself and u/Rich_Stomach2854) will slowly be making changes to the subreddit. Our community here has gotten quite a bit larger over the past few years, and with that comes a need for a more organized subreddit.

To start off, we're hoping to slowly build up a Wiki for this subreddit, which includes how-tos and an FAQ section.

You might see the subreddit look a little different as we work on this. Once we have a Wiki started and in good condition, you'll see a pinned post from us!

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a modmail.

Thanks so much, and happy punching! ^-^

We've added a new rule pertaining to the use of AI on the subreddit.

Hello all! I’m in my multiple hobby era and punch needle seemed to be a good project to try. However, I was really overwhelmed with all the options, the tips, the tricks, the small details.. I found someone on tiktok and watched a lot of her videos and started to fully trust her, so I decided to try one of her kits. I can’t brag about this kit enough. I know there is always a learning curve to things, but the way that Avery put her kit together, her grade A supplies, and her very informative tutorial videos, she made it so much easier and I’m hooked. So I wanted to share her website in case anyone else wants to try her stuff! https://royandpip.com/collections/learn-to-punch-needle-kits

Punch needle 1 year progress!

I’ve finally found a hobby I really enjoy, not toooo expensive and easy to do wherever. Can be personal etc. but what do you do with all of the work? I have storage containers and do holiday themed ones now to bring out for every occasion. I’m starting to be that person that just gifts you something I made for every occasion. But I’m not fully confident and overthink my materials. A lot of people gatekeeper their products too. I’m just using Michael’s and Amazon. Switching between the Mina Carin and some bigger random needle from Amazon that’s adjustable. I use acrylic size 4 yarn for the bigger needle and size 2 cotton or acrylic for the Mina Carin. Just looking for some criticism, feedback and advice. Pics for reference. The witches hat is from a year ago and then rest most recent

Baby salmons

Okay, technically these aren’t babies since young salmon are much different. But! Babies in the sense that they’re tiny

And holy moly do I enjoy, and much prefer making these little guys. It helps keep the joy in the creative process to make something that doesn’t require as much time and effort. I might swap over to doing mostly small projects like these with only a side of bigger art like my pet portraits

In addition, they’re also cheaper 🤌 so that helps with selling the art as well

Help finishing

I have officially completed my first non-kit design! I’m wondering how to finish it? I realize i probably should’ve done this right onto a frame but clearly we are past that point lol. If anyone has a link to a frame or any tips all is welcome! Also, any tips to get better are greatly appreciated! TIA

I need some advice... More details in the text down below.

This was my first attempt at trying to make a punch needle coaster...

As you can probably see, the lines are not crisp, and the face details are quite bad looking.

I need some advice on how I can improve it for the next attempt. My needle can adjust at 3 different lengths. The length I had it on before was the medium length, but maybe I should do the shortest length?

Is it possible that I am clustering them too close together?

Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank you! :)

I learned a lot. Predominantly that I’m terrible at whip stitching. Was trying to finish it as a patch for a sweatshirt, but it’s looking a little rough around the edges (literally).

This is my first kit. As I started it I started reading how tis and watching you tube videos , so you can kind of see the progression.

As winter is coming, I'd like to do more to keep me busy. I don't want to go nuts but I saved around 100$ budget for a winter hobby, so I'm wondering which would be the wisest move :

I'm swaying between buying kits or just jumping in by myself.

I was wondering if some Canadian punchers(?) would be able to suggest some good kits to start with? Or a good place to get materials online besides Amazon.

I'm in Nova Scotia so lots of crafts here just don't know where to start.

I also think I want to get a non slip hoop or frame because this has been a battle to keep tensed. If anyone can suggest a good frame or loop ?

HeyHobby kits

Hello! I’ve been wanting to try punch needle for a while. Recently I started seeing ads for kits from a company called HeyHobby. They look really cute, but I’m struggling to find reviews besides the ones on their own site. (They’re also hard to search for, I keep getting results for Hobby Lobby instead.) Has anyone used them and if so, would you recommend them? Thanks in advance!

I’ve completed a few kits to this point . It looks dumb with the outline I can’t punch because that’s where the frame is.

Now what ?

If I take it out , how do I hang it up ?

Tutorial for replacing yarn segments

Hello everyone 😃 I’m back with another quick tutorial video. This one goes over how to remove, and then re-punch a small section on a punch needle project

I ended up wanting to make the eye on my mini salmon a bit more lively, so I videoed the process to share with all of you fine crafters

Materials used:

Mina Carin punch needle with the 2.2mm (largest) needle in the pack set to 4mm long
Cotton flannel fabric
Mostly brava sport weight acrylic yarn from Knitpicks
Fine tipped Westcott titanium scissors
Gripper strip frame off Etsy

My 3rd punch needle and first one without a kit. I just printed the design I wanted and traced it the best I could. I think if I had thinner yarn that I could have made sharper corners but I am happy with the result!

I am excited to keep learning!

Mini neon tetra

One of a handful of neon tetras I’ve been doing lately. I’m working on building up a whole school of them, amongst other species as well. I just recently finished miniaturizing my salmon design and will add a couple of them to my frame to be finished off in the upcoming weeks

After that, it sounds like I’ll be doing a fun series of puffer fish in different frames that come together to show an animation of it puffing it

Even better, I found the perfect woven basket to display all the fish I’m making at a yard sale last week!

First One!

I bought this kit from Walmart last night and finished in just under 2 hours. It took me forever to figure it out but I started cruising once I got the hang of it. The bottom left green section was the last section I did and the part that I feel the best about. My next one will be much better!

Questions - how do you finish the back? The strands on the back side are really long and some of the loops seem really long. I want to glue it or put a backing on it or something but I'm afraid it'll be really lumpy. I hope that makes sense.

Another question - where are people finding templates/stencils? I am not great at drawing but I want cooler/better designs than the boring ones I can find at Walmart.

I will probably do another one tonight!
