Thoughts on Grief/Loss Day 7. It's getting easier.

I can think about him without crying now as long as I don't think about him too much. I read some of our old texts and smiled instead of crying. If I let the thoughts linger though that's when the tears come so I've been trying to just let the thoughts go mostly the past couple days. I still have at least 1 breakdown a day but they're getting shorter and less ugly. I feel a bit of guilt that it hurts less now though.

Dad Loss Dad passed away 6 months ago, Mom is becoming snappy

I, 53 (F), only daughter, only child, have been grieving the loss of my Dad (75). He had multiple health issues, survived throat cancer a few years ago, he was overweight, heart valve, gall bladder removed, high blood pressure, wasn't very active in the last months. My Mom (73) has been with him for 55 years. She's in better health, and so she was pretty much his caretaker. They live an hour and a half away from my husband (44) and I. Mom would make his food, clean the house, take him to doctor appointments, make him take his meds. It all became to much for my Mom, she would call me and say that my Dad just sits in the recliner watching TV. We thought he was just that way. I never thought he was depressed. He attempted suicide on March 30, 2026. And I still cry about, even today. I got to see him a few times when he was in the hospital. He took an overdose of his blood pressure pills. I asked Mom why, I think she's overwhelmed with guilt. I feel a little guilty too, I should've called more, should've visited more, etc. While he was at the hospital, he went from being on life support, to having a tracheotomy and have the ability to talk to us one last time. He said he felt like he was a burden on my Mom and to the family. I cried and said he's not a burden. We all got to visit and then the night after, he passed in his sleep from heart failure. That was in April 2026. Now, we go to visit my Mom, and she seems ok, but every now and then, she's become snappy to my Husband. He's very helpful through all of this, he hooked up her TVs how she likes, fixed her printer, fixed the pool vacuum and pump, filter, AC filters, cooks on the grill when we visit her. I think her and my Dad used to have a slightly toxic relationship, Mom was the caretaker for so many years, she would yell at Dad to do things, but I think his health was already declining. Now that he took his life, she feels guilty. Hubby said to me, he doesn't want to visit her anymore, because he feels he bends over backwards to help and she just gets snappy with him and says, well it's not like I used to have things. I can visit Mom by myself, but I don't want this to split up our little family we have left. I just don't know what to do. I'm here crying as I write this. I plan on visiting her over the weekend, it's just a sad, depressing situation all around.

Pet Loss The Kittens Died, and I Don't Know How to Accept It

The kittens die.

Our female cat gave birth on October 14, and it's our first time, and I think it's her first time, too. Last night, the firstborn died. I can't accept it. I'm upset, and now the third one has died, and the second one is going to die, too. It's still alive, but it's so weak and cold, and its stomach is flat. I know it can still be saved because it can still move and cry. If only I had money and could bring them to the vet. It hurts so bad. I can't even do anything about it. If only I could, I would do it. I love them so much. I'm always there for them, watching and caring for them. I was excited when she gave birth. I watched her give birth to them and cared for them when they crawled away from her. I always picked them up and put them back with her. I don't even understand it. Why? Why should they die? It hurts so bad.

What makes it even more painful is that I feel like my family doesn't understand how much I'm hurting. I can't do anything to save the kittens because I don't have money to bring them to the vet, and that makes me feel so helpless. Instead of comforting me, my mother called me crazy and told me that I would be the next one to die. I was already hurting because the kittens were dying, and hearing those words from my own mother made it worse. I just want to be allowed to feel sad. I don't want to be forced to act okay when I'm not. I wish my family would leave me alone instead of making me feel worse about something that already hurts so much and forcing me to be okay.

Advice, Pls Coping with loss of my third space?

So in about a week the cycling studio that I have been going to for nearly a decade is closing and for some reason I am finding it harder to cope with than I expected. While I have lost family members before, have gone through breakups and dealt with loss before, this is really my first time losing a third space. To be honest, this feels like losing a friend and part of my identity. I am also looking for a job so the sense of normalcy that going to this studio gave me is gone. Does anyone have any good advice on how to cope with this kind of loss?

Vent/Anger - Advice Welcome So angry

Am I wrong for being absolutely furious about this?
My baby niece has leukemia. She’s not even two years old. My family is living through an absolute nightmare right now, and I’m doing everything I can to support my sister and help my niece get through this.
I am devastated. I’m scared. I’m exhausted. And I’m trying to hold myself together while a literal baby fights cancer.
Then Ben decides to come into my comments with these opinions. I had also posted several posts breaking the news to my followers about her diagnosis, and I posted her go fund me. Not a single word of sympathy. Not a single “I’m sorry your family is going through this.” Nothing kind. Just unsolicited commentary at a time when I am already emotionally shattered.
And honestly, what the actual fuck?
You don’t have to agree with me. You don’t have to share my perspective. But how do you see someone going through something this horrific and not have the basic human decency to lead with a little compassion?
I’m not asking strangers on the internet to agree with everything I say. I’m asking why some people seem so desperate to voice their opinions that they can’t even pause for two seconds to recognize another person’s pain.
A baby is fighting leukemia. My family is terrified. And you thought THIS was the moment to come at me with your opinions?
I’m posting the screenshots because I genuinely want outside perspectives on this. Am I overreacting, or was this as insensitive and unnecessary as it felt?
Because I cannot imagine approaching someone in the middle of a family cancer crisis this way. I just can’t.

Advice, Pls How often should I check in on someone I’m dating who’s grieving the loss of her mum?

I have been dating a woman for about three months. We were getting quite close, seeing each other regularly, and things were going really well.

Unfortunately, her mum passed away unexpectedly 2 weeks ago. She was very close to her, and she’s understandably devastated. She’s currently back in her home country with her family, while I’m here.
I really care about her and genuinely want to know how she’s doing. I also want her to know I’m thinking of her and that she has someone to talk to if she needs it.

Before this happened, we used to text throughout the day and regularly exchanged good morning and goodnight messages. But now I’m unsure how much contact is appropriate. She even met me before flying and cried with me shared her sadness and was vulnerable with me .

Some days she shares how she’s feeling and what’s happening with her family. Other times she’s understandably quiet but still replies to me. I never expect a reply, and I’m completely fine with her taking as much time as she needs.

My concern is that even well-intentioned messages might become overwhelming when she’s already dealing with so much. At the same time, I don’t want to suddenly become distant or stop checking in on her but Idk when she might find them comforting. I am not looking for her attention , I just want to be there for her if she needs me and I feel helpless as I am really far away from her . She shares how she is in so much pain and sadly all I can do is text her and let her know I am there for her .

For anyone who’s lost a parent while dating someone relatively new, what kind of communication did you appreciate?

Would one or two short check-ins a day feel comforting or excessive? Would you prefer the other person to continue sending good morning/goodnight messages, even if you didn’t always respond?
I know everyone grieves differently, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve been on either side of this situation. I just want to let her know I am there with her . I feel helpless as I cant be there with her . Also its more from care perspective I am asking, she should not feel like I am distancing myself during one of worst time of her life .

Edit-

I usually just send .. Thinking of you ... take care type messages that doesnt need reply . She usually shares big texts whenever she feels like with updates around whatever is going on with her . Sometimes her selfies .. so I reply to those .. And then i tend to double text .. like if I send a morning thinking if you message and she uodates me in the afternoon .. I will reply to her texts and she wont reply to my replies which is fine , but then again I will send something at night. I just want to make sure its not a lot .

Pet Loss My Moo-Moo is gone :(

(The picture is from 2 years ago btw)

hi,it’s me again…I lost another important person in my life this year. This time,it was my extended family’s old dog,Angie. We had her from 2015 to 2026 (11 years.) she was 16 years old and actually lived PAST her expected lifetime (pitbull mix). She was such an amazing dog and I don’t know how I’ll be able to handle that she’s gone :(

she was put to sleep earlier this morning according to my mama, right around the time me and my brother were getting ready for school. She said she didn’t tell us it because she didn’t want us to be in a sad mood the entire day. (We found out right as we got home. I immediately started crying)

around 6:34PM,on our way to something related to my brother,we saw a rainbow…I immediately thought it was her saying her final goodbyes to us.

Angie, you were the best cow-dog ever and I’ll always love and remember you,Moo-Moo.

i’ll always love you Angie.

4/8/2010 (or 2015)-10/16/2026. The best Cow-Dog ever. love you Moo.

Pet Loss Hope I don’t offend anyone

Post image
74 Upvotes

Hi all

I hope my post doesn’t offend anyone or isn’t seen as disrespectful. I have gone through this page and seen a lot of people post pictures of husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends and even kids. I am truely sorry for your loss :(

Yesterday at approximately 10.15am I lost my male 5 nearly 6 year old fit, healthy super fast indoor BSH CAT.

I’m a 47 year old guy that is and has always been mentally very strong, but this has ripped my heart out, compelled torn me to pieces.

He wasn’t just a cat to me, he was my baby boy. My partner and couldn’t have kids after years of trying, so we replaced the not having human kid to have a feline baby.

He was my world. All day I’d think about what he’s doing, how I’m going to annoy him when I get home and often I’d have to have little chats about his bullying behaviour at times when he’d try push me around in the company of my partner.

Every morning at 5am he’d go sit low on my partners chest asking for pats. As I’m an early riser, as soon as he’d see my eyes open, he’d jump off the bed resort me down stairs to give him his big breakfast

He’d smash his paw into his bowl when he wanted more food, we have a matter house and constantly he’d be sprinting inside.

I’ve never felt pain like this before. I truly don’t know how I’ll survive.
We got him at a time when we finally had to give up trying for kids through IVF, we got home when we finally shut our businesss after being stuck (couldn’t leave couldn’t sell) Ian 6 year lease which ended Dec 31 2020. He was our gods gift Dec 24 2020

I have cried all day since yesterday, I have asked myself will I ever be able to overcome this pain.

I haven’t eaten in 2 days, bad stomach ache, painful headache and life at the moment just doesn’t seem important.

He was found 15 mins after I last saw him on the bed, what looked like peacefully sleeping but unresponsive.

My partner is a mess, im a mess and his brother from the same family has also been crying and looking around the house all day.

Im going to have a strong sleeping tablet tonight to attempt to sleep off some pain. I’d love for it to all be a dream

Kitty from above, if you’re watching down, we love you and are distraught without you

Suicide I don’t want to live anymore

I’m not gonna do anything. I could never do that to my family. But I wish o could die.
Living without my husband is torture. I’ve been hollering his name and screaming for him to come back to me.
I would give anything to see him again.
It’s been 5 months. I’m exhausted of living. I don’t want to be here anymore. I just want him back.
I just needed to say this.
Thank you for reading.

Ps, how can this group have no spouse loss flair? That’s fucking crazy

Anticipatory Grief She's here but she isn't

This year has been particularly hard since I knew my mom had cancer stage 4 and that she refused the treatment.

She's gotten really depressed since then, I don't see her smile anymore, she doesn't enjoy anything in life, she's been in that bed for the past 10 months. I feel that I can no longer enjoy life too and when I do I feel guilty for it.

She's slowly leaving me, but I feel that she's been gone the moment she gave up on her health, both mental and physical.

She's still in that bed, and when she's not sleeping she's sobbing and wishing to be dead already.

I feel that she's not my mom anymore, I can't come to her and tell her about my day

I can't turn to her when things are going wrong

I can hug her when I need some conform

She's just there physically but her essence is long gone.

No thing can get her out of that situation, and I can understand why. But she's always refusing any kind of help.

I just miss her. But he loving, protective, funny, and empathetic woman I still call my mom is gone.

Thanks for reading if you did. I just needed to vent

Child Loss For those who have lost children - gift or acts ideas

My friend just lost her teenage son. I know gifts won’t make things better but I just feel like I want to help or do something for her. What was something you were gifted or even an act of kindness that someone did for you? Something you’ll never forget?

Partner Loss Struggling

In 11 days it will be 6 months since my boyfriend of 10 years passed. In 20 days it’s his birthday. These upcoming milestones are weighing heavy on me. We did not live together so at times that makes me feel like I should not be grieving as much as I am. He distanced himself from
His family the last two years of his life. I think his demons and his addiction to alcohol made him
Pull away. Since his death I’ve developed a relationship with his siblings I wish I could have had when he was alive. My work is super challenging right now. I’m dealing with elder care issues with my parents. It’s a lot. My therapist tells me to live life but I honestly just want to curl up with a glass of wine in bed and watch tv. Ironic since my grief is because of someone that literally drank himself to death, I’m looking at retirement in the next two or three years and not sure what is next. So confused and sad and hurt and angry at the same time

Trauma Finding a loved one dead

My councellor tells me I may have PTSD. My brain cannot comprehend it. It doesn’t feel right…”PTSD”, it’s something dark and spiky and scary. Sometimes I get flashes of images even when my eyes are open. They don’t always scare me anymore, I just feel “dead”, numb, disconnected, like looking at an object that I’ve seen a thousand times. I remember the face of the paramedic and the police who came by, their hair, their face, the way they approached me like they had a sense of uncertainty or fear that they’d say the wrong thing. It’s been 3 years and I still find my body awake before I am. No matter how tired I feel or what time it is, my body wakes me up to check if the person next to me is still breathing. Sometimes I wake up in a panic, sometimes I react before I even know what I’m doing. It’s compulsive. I can’t sleep till I know they’re still breathing.

I feel so much guilt for what I should’ve done, I feel so guilty for being angry at them for being drunk before they suffered a heart attack. I feel so guilty for stepping away after I found them that morning and thinking to myself I should go out anyway and deal with it later. Why? I mean, I didn’t, I went back and called emergency services. I’ll never forget the smell of the house that day. You know when you walk into a new place and it just a certain smell, not necessarily unpleasant, just distinguishable. I lived in that house for years and for the first time ever, I noticed the smell and I can never forget it. Any time I step in, it still burns my nose and my mind burns with the memory it brings.

What do you even do with all of this? The guilt is so heavy, no one knows I’ve been feeling this way. I’ve carried it every single day. It weighs down on my shoulders and my chest just feels so heavy like I’m being pushed or dragged down. My brain keeps telling me now that maybe the people around me secretly blame me for it too.

Just a vent post but if anyone would like to share their story or offer advice, it’s most welcome

Sibling Loss Life and Death Hold Hands

In May of last year, I lost my little brother to an accidental tragedy—autoerotic asphyxiation. With my dad already gone for five years, his death stripped away an entire identity: I am nobody’s sister anymore, an only child holding the pieces of a family that used to be full.

I look back at the years before and feel a burning resentment toward myself for ever taking them for granted. My life now isn’t ruined on paper, I am married, l live the life I dreamed I would as a kid; but I never built a blueprint for a world without him in it. I am angry, shattered, and confused. The only truth that keeps my feet on the floor every morning is knowing he would never forgive me if I gave up on living. That, and a heartbreaking prayer I never imagined carrying: that my mother goes before I do, so she never has to endure surviving her husband, her son, and her last living child

Trauma I accidentally killed my moms dog tonight

I wish this was a sick joke. My mom passed away last month, Sept 20th and tonight I went to pick up her dog from my dad to take him for a sleepover and I hit and killed him as I was pulling in the driveway. It was a total freak accident, and he passed within minutes. I am so traumatized 😓 he was a piece of my mom and one of the only things that brought me comfort regarding her. I babied him. I loved him. He was my little brother. I don’t know how I’m going to be okay knowing I just took my dad’s company from him after already missing my mom. I

Anticipatory Grief Mum is palliative, partner awaiting surgery for possible cancer, now my soul dog is dying

As above.. I actually don’t know how to carry these multiple clusters of fear and pain. The waves of anxiety and fear, along with preparing for actual grief is enormous. I’m not sure what I’m looking for here but I needed to put this somewhere. 💔

My mother has terminal end stage cancer and each day is tricky and drawing her closer to the end (we are weeks beyond her expected timeframe already). My partner has surgery in a week to remove a mass that is quite possibly malignant and now my beautiful soul dog has a cancer that is very likely to take him quickly/spontaneously. I’m the central person supporting my parents, partner and daughter (who has the most deep rooted bond with our dog..she will completely break when he goes) .. And I’m working full time, spreading myself between everyone and underneath it all I’m angry and devastated. I just wish I could sit still and just be with my people and pup, but life isn’t allowing it and I’m raging because I desperately want more time. Thank you for letting me share here 🤍

Vent/Anger - No Advice Pls Tomorrow is my birthday

This year has taken so much from me. This is just some rambling.

Last year, my dad was in a coma. Last year on my birthday was when they told me he wasn't improving. He's still around but needing 24/7 professional care due to the severity of the brain damage. It feels unfair to think that I'll lose my dad twice. A month ago, I suddenly lost my previously healthy cat to aggressive cancer. He was my everything.

Last year despite everything I cleaned and baked and organised board games for all of my friends. For over 15 people who said they'd be there. All but 4 of them cancelled at the last minute. Just 4 of us and enough cake for 15 people. Felt so absurd. I guess at least grief gives you that sort of clarity.

I do miss being a fun person though.

Vent/Anger - Advice Welcome Grieving my grandfather during my first month of university and I feel like I’ve lost interest in everything

My grandfather passed away recently, and he was genuinely like a father to me. He was one of the most important people in my life and more of a dad to me than my own.

The timing has made everything so much harder. This happened during my first month of university, when I was already trying to adjust to a completely new environment, make friends, and find my place. Now, I genuinely have no desire to do any of those things. I don’t care about making conversation that feels shallow or forcing connections just for the sake of having friends. I know I probably shouldn’t isolate myself, but I just don’t have the energy to pretend to be interested in things right now.

Being around people talking excitedly about Halloween, holidays, and all the fun things they have planned makes me feel even worse. It’s like everyone else is living their lives normally while mine has completely changed.

I’ve also noticed so much resentment coming up in my relationship. Sometimes I’ll be with my boyfriend and he’ll just be singing along to music or being happy, and I feel this overwhelming irritation and resentment. Part of me wonders if it’s because I’m hurting so much and can’t understand how everyone else can just carry on. But there’s also history in our relationship because he cheated on me two years ago. We worked through it, or at least I thought we did, but lately I’ve been questioning things again. I keep thinking about whether my grandfather would have liked him and what he would say if he knew everything. I find myself wondering if I’m making choices that the person who loved me most would actually want for me.

I’m trying to keep up with university and get my work done, but honestly, I just feel like shit. I feel disconnected from everyone, angry at things that shouldn’t make me angry, and guilty because I know life has to go on, but I’m nowhere near ready for it to.

I guess I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced grief that completely changes how they see their relationships, friendships, and even the people around them. Does this feeling of resentment and disconnection eventually ease? How do you keep living your life when a part of you just doesn’t want to participate in it anymore?

Vent/Anger - No Advice Pls I hate death and everything that comes with it.

I lost my auntie 4 years ago and I lost my great grandmother on Thursday, and I feel both angry and distressed. I'm nowhere near done grieving my auntie and now I've lost another family member, and it feels so surreal. I know she's gone, but my body refuses to let me stop and process it.

I hate immediately forgetting everything about them, the funerals, watching my family struggle with the loss. I hate how I grieve. With my auntie, I blamed myself and thought it should've been me, but with my grandma, I feel like my body has shut down any emotional part of me and is yelling at me to just continue my life like nothing happened.

Why does death have to be so confusing? I wish it didn't hurt so much. I feel like how I'm grieving is wrong and that something is wrong with me.

Anticipatory Grief The reality that my mom is going to die soon.

So my mom’s had cancer for a little over 2 years and is almost at the tail end of her prognosis. She’s had a huge decline this year and it’s been really hard.

Something I got from my mom is a tendency to hoard clothes, and my local community is holding a clothing drive, so I told my dad about it because I know he hates all the junk my mom keeps. The clothes don’t fit her cause of weight changes.

He packed up the majority of her old clothes, and I made a comment on it because I didn’t expect him to clear it all out so quick. Most of her clothes aren’t my style, but they are my size.

Then he mentioned how she’s not going to survive until next year anyway. I know that’s a terrible thing for him to say and that it’s not guaranteed, but it still hurts to hear.

She’s been having extra issues today, and while my dad was helping her just now I couldn’t help but begin to cry. I was just sitting here, thinking about how maybe I want to keep one of her clothing items.

And then I thought about how I’m going to have to do something with her jewelry when she passes because I inherit it all, and how I’ll be giving some away to other women in my family, too.

The thought of her no longer existing hurts so much. To think of having to eventually share or get rid of her belongings hurts too. I hate it. Each passing month it gets harder and harder to process the reality, because the life while she’s still alive is getting harder to live, too.

I guess this is a diary or rant. I’m sorry. Life is just so hard right now. It’s too much.

Anticipatory Grief My daughter is dying

We found out a year ago my daughter has CLN2 Batten disease. It’s horrific. As it progresses she’ll lose the ability to walk, talk, see, swallow and suffer from childhood dementia then death in early childhood. I’ve kept strong this long supporting my family (partner and two little girls the younger of whom is sick) but I can feel myself fracturing.

I’ve got my own personal traumas and am in the process of being diagnosed with complex ptsd but I’ve always been good at compartmentalising but it’s like I can feel all these emotions are seeping out of me and the grief and despair is endless. I’ve tried meds, counselling, nothing helps. I can’t sleep, feel like my body is running on fumes 24/7.

My partner is suffering from panic attacks now and when she does she tries to hurt herself so I have to be on constant alert to make sure she’s okay, constant alert to make sure the children feel safe and it’s just taken so much out of me but my only option is to keep going when all I want is to rest but her disease won’t slow down it will just keep progressing and getting worse and worse.

I’m dreading the day she loses her sight. She’s scared of the dark and I won’t be able to do anything to help her.

Cousin Loss My beautiful cousin was murdered. I cannot believe it

What should I do? She was going to school. She was bettering her life. All of that was taken from her by some fuckass man that she chose to be with. Im so angry. Why couldnt she have been in the hospital instead? Why did she have to be dead? I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Why? Why?

It has to be a prank. It's all an elaborate prank and she'll be back tomorrow. I promise.
