Anyone having an incredibly difficult time trying to get an HSG? (rant)

I am beyond frustrated. My first pregnancy ever was ectopic (got pregnant in late may, was diagnosed ectopic less than a week after I found out I was pregnant in June. I was given 2 shots of MTX and then ruptured 3 weeks later and had my right tube removed in late July). Before I ruptured they kept telling me the whole time it was my left tube. All of my ultrasounds showed a large left tube until the night I ruptured and the surgeon had to remove my right tube. Before being discharged from the hospital I asked the resident gyno if something was wrong with my left tube since they mentioned prior to rupture it was on my left side and she checked her notes and just said "The surgeon notes the left side was normal". I then proceeded to ask her if I should get an HSG and she told me "No, don't worry about it, once you heal keep trying and if you don't get pregnant after a year go to a fertility clinic". That was the first thing that pissed me off. 6 weeks later I had a follow up with my surgeon with whom I figured I should ask to get an HSG. She mentioned an HSG would be a great idea but I would have to get a referral from my family doctor (FYI I am located in Canada). I checked that day to see when my doctors next appointment was and it was 3 weeks later so I booked one anyways but I didn't want to wait that long and my doctors office has afterhours "walk in" no appointment needed for urgent needs. I walked into the afterhours clinic that same day and asked the on call doctor to get a referral for an HSG. He looked at me like I had 3 heads and had no idea what it was but that he would "look into it and speak with my doctor". He did not do anything about it. I had my appointment with my doctor 3 weeks later and mentioned the HSG and told her the run around I have been given my the hospital, surgeon and the other doctor and she said she would put in a referral for me to a gyno. That was over 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear from any gyno. I had another appointment booked with her on Nov 3rd but due to scheduling conflicts the receptionist called me to reschedule. While I had her on the phone I asked about the referral to the gyno and she said the original referral was rejected so they sent it to another facility and are waiting to hear back. I'm incredibly sick of this system and I'm over waiting. I've found there are some self referral fertility clinics around that are government funded so I reached out to one a couple days ago. On the form I mentioned my ectopic and wanting an HSG. They got back to me this morning and mentioned getting a Sonohysterogram which is not what I asked for. I sent an email back stating I had asked for an HSG, not a Sonohysterogram and they proceeded to tell me it's "basically the same thing". One quick google search says it does NOT look at the tubes. I'm so incredibly frustrated right now. I am willing to do a Sonohysterogram but I also know I need an HSG. Why is it so hard just to get the care I need?
If you're still here, thank you for reading my rant lol

How long did the cramping, nausea, and tiredness last after MTX?

It’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve been treated how MTX. I was incredibly lucky and caught it early and my hcg levels have already gone down to <1.00 but I’m still having pretty bad cramping on my right side (where it was) and i’m still SO exhausted and nauseous. When can I expect this to go away? Is it related or normal? I’m so tired of this :(

Feeling so removed - rant.

Tw - pregnancy

I had a miscarriage in September after a couple months of ttc. That was probably one of the most emotionally taxing experiences I’ve ever had and I’m still feeling it. I found out that I was pregnant again in early October before my period ever returned. I was so excited but the regular amount of anxiety I normally feel was compounded. Unfortunately I’m in this group for a reason, and this week after having on and off bleeding for a week as well as intense cramps and erratic Hcg, it was determined to be ectopic.
This morning I received the methotrexate shots and I just feel so sad, frustrated, and defeated. I am so tired of sitting in the doctors office and my arms are going to fall off the next time I have to get blood drawn. To compound matters, my life is currently overflowing with pregnant women and new babies. My sister, sister in law, close friend, and neighbor(s) are all pregnant. I am currently in the process of helping with a shower for this weekend and am hosting one next month.
I am a private person and I have no interest in divulging my issues, but I feel guilty in a way. I don’t feel like I have the emotional or mental capacity to be as present and supportive as I would normally want to be right now. Ugh.

Please I would like to know if there's anyone with similar experience after ectopic pregnancy with tube removal. I had a tube removed early 2025 and a chemical pregnancy early 2026, since then I have been having pain in my remaining tube though mild but persistent, at times it will be from the tubel

HCG levels - slow decline

I was diagnosed with an ectopic in August and had a dose of methotrexate on 8/26. My HCG levels were in the 7,000’s and as of today they’re at 165. I feel like this is taking forever. I just want my cycle and hormones to level out. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

Trying to be hopeful

Ectopic in August. got MTX shot end of August. negative HCG mid September got my first period end of September.

I'm currently 2 days away from my expected period and we did try this cycle (doctor said we could try as soon as hcg was negative) I tested this morning and got a negative. I tested because I have a few symptoms but I know also could just be pms. Today has been hard. Just emotional. It's hard to not think about how Im supposed to be pregnant right now. Grateful for catching the ectopic early and all the "good" things and circumstances but today is just hard. Sending love, prayers and baby dust to all the ladies struggling.

Surgery and blood thinning injections after

So sorry any of you are going through this. I have had a nightmare with this initially thinking it was a chemical, to then being told it’s actually ectopic and hoping my HCG would come down, it didn’t so I needed methotrexate, it came down on day 7 but came up again on day 14, I was asked to come in for a ultrasound the day after so day 15 and I had surgery that day. It all happened so quickly and I didn’t have any signs of rupture I just put it down to the methotrexate, but it obviously did and it had gotten bigger. so sorry this is such a long story tried to be cut down! Anyway, I was discharged yesterday with inhixa injections, I’m slightly worried as I don’t know anyone who has been given this after discharge. any tips or tricks for recovery please I had my right tube removed through keyhole surgery ❤️‍🩹

Conceived twins with one tube

Hello!
Its been two years since my ectopic surgery, almost to the day. I had my right tube removed. Today, I am 5w2d pregnant with fraternal twins. The ultrasound tech confirmed I ovulated from my right ovary (two eggs!) and my left tube picked them up!!! Miracle! Has this happened to anyone else?

HSG canceled, worth rescheduling?

My HSG today was canceled because their machine broke down and no Dr available for the rest of the month.
My OB wasn't worried about my remaining tube and said it looked good during surgery, but I requested an HSG for my own sanity. I ultimately decided against it, and TTC my first cycle post ectopic, but no luck. So, that is when I scheduled for the now canceled appt.

The thing is, this entire weekend, I had a weird gut feeling that I shouldn't do the HSG and should cancel. I can't explain why or anything besides my "intuition"... lol I know that sounds crazy, and I am not a "woo woo" person, I'm actually a scientist. The feeling was so intense, I even had dreams about it, and asked my husband if I should cancel, because I'm feeling like I shouldn't go. I wasn't scared of pain for the procedure itself, I was given Valium to take for the appt.

Well, yesterday right before 5pm, I got the call canceling my appt because machine broke and no more Drs for the rest of the month. I feel crazy to say it was a sign or my gut was right, but with my ectopic, from the moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew in my heart and soul that my pregnancy was not going to work out, despite never having been pregnant before or knowing what to expect.

Would I be a fool to not schedule it for my next period? Am I insane for now thinking my gut feeling was justified and that I shouldn't do it and try naturally for a few cycles?

Worried about ectopic but my doctors say “it’s a waiting game”

Warning: talks about medical abortion. Ok so to start off, I do have health anxiety just to put that out there. Which is making all of this so much worse. I found out I was pregnant by going into the doctor with right sided pelvic pain. They had me take a test. I wasn’t worried about it at all until it turned out positive. I was in and out of the doctor that entire day as it did ultrasounds and blood tests. My transvaginal ultrasound could not find anything so they ruled. I was too early to see anything they guessed around five weeks. They told me it was “pregnancy of an unknown location”. My HCG was at 834 that day. They had me come back 2 days later for another that ended up being 1810. They said this was reassuring but couldn’t completely rule out ectopic but I was ok to go ahead and do the MA. Then follow through with HCG testing after. So 5 days later I did the at home abortion. Two days after that I went back and my HCG was 1769. They told me come back in a week so I went yesterday and my HCG IS 1048 And my pain is back. I asked if I should get an ultra sound to rule out ectopic since that was a concern before but they said since the numbers are trending down even tho it’s not as fast as normal that we will just have to wait another week for another HCG reading. I don’t understand why I would have to wait and not just do the ultrasound if ectopic pregnancies are as dangerous as they say. Is this just my health anxiety? Are my number is reassuring enough? Or should I go to the ER and demand an ultrasound to get answers?

sadness around due date

Hi. Looking for anyone who can relate. My calculated due date was this week and I’ve been aware this week would bring up complicated feelings. I think I feel sad because no one else knows or remembers. I feel like because we didn’t know anything about the embryo (gender, the opportunity to name them) that I’m the only one that has any emotional attachment to it and my husband, family, friends only see it as a medical event. To anyone who’s experienced this- what can I do to heal this profound loneliness about the situation? Stopped therapy early on because was unable to find someone who really understood what I was going through and starting to regret my lack of processing the situation

Mtx for ectopic pregnancy, returning back to work.

How long were you off work after getting a methotrexate injection for an ectopic pregnancy? My hCG went from 708 to 626 now it’s down in the 300s 7 days post methotrexate. but I return to work tomorrow and I work as a CNA working 12 hour shifts. I’m so nervous I’m going to push it and rupture.

TTC after salpingectomy

Hi everyone,
I had shared here my story in July, I had an ectopic pregnancy in July that was removed at about 8 weeks. Together with it my right tube was removed and also some bits of endometriosis, which were analysed. Not many and with a very low grade. The gyn that performed surgery on me told me that the left tube looked healthy and everyone agreed I should just try naturally for the next months. We’d consider alternative ways from Jan/Feb if no luck by then.

I got back my first cycle last month but my husband wasn’t around on the right dates because of work. This month we did everything by the book (I also got the newmom box for lh testing and started coq10 and omega3 supplements on top of folic acid. It was recommended by my gyn). I tested today (dpo 14) and got back two very clear negatives. Still no sign of my period coming.

I didn’t expect it really but it threw me under the bus. I spent the morning researching likelihood of me being pregnant with two tests not catching it at this point in time.

I guess I am wondering if any of you has had a similar experience? I know it’s practically just the first real attempt after everything, but I guess I am just incredibly strained and pained at how our conceiving journey is coming together.

Thank you ❤️

I’m feeling down this morning, my bbt dropped and my pdg urine test showed very negative this morning where yesterday it was almostttttt positive. I’m thinking I’m out this cycle and if I’m not I’m wondering if it’s ectopic again bc the bbt and pdg is so wonky. Maybe I didn’t even ovulate? 6/7dpo. Hoping someone here can provide me answers or possibly some hope.

Preparing to ttc after methotrexate

Hiya, in 5 days I’ll be able to try again as that’s when 3 months wait after methotrexate is done. Any stories of successful pregnancies after methotrexate and how long? Trying for first baby and this would be for our fourth pregnancy( 3 losses - a chemical, an 8 week then the last one ectopic) so nervous is an understatement. Had testing and scans and all normal. Been prescribed progesterone and aspirin from private doctor to start once I start ttc so this is just to get me feeling hopeful for ttc. Much appreciated! X

Pain during pregnancy after salpingectomy

Hi everyone, first of all I want to say that I feel extremely happy and lucky that I'm having a normal, intrauterine pregnancy now. I'm 13 weeks and everything seems to go well so far.💕

9 months ago I had an ectopic pregnancy and my right tube was removed. What a deeply disorienting and traumatic experience it was... I also have an incision on the left for when they checked whether my left tube is still functional (which apparently it is:)))

The only concern I have now, apart from the normal pregnancy symptoms, is an increasing pain on the left, which was always a sore spot after the surgery. But now it's getting really uncomfortable and bothersome, now that my belly starts to grow. Not sure if it's internal stitches, fascia or an irritated nerve. I know that you can't say anything about that, but did any of you experience something similar? I'm afraid it only gets worse from here. It's mostly when I sit upright or with certain movements.

My OB and midwife said I should keep an eye on it, but can't really do much since I'm pregnant. If anybody has had similar experuences, I'd love hearing about it. Did it stay stable or did it get progressively worse, if you had any pain from surgery?

Thanks xx

HSG after ectopic

Hi everyone. Just curious if you had an HSG after your ectopic and your experience with it?

I had surgery in August and lost my right tube, from the outside my left tube looked okay but my doctor has still recommended I do an HSG before trying again.

I’m undecided if I want to do one or just try again and see what happens. I didn’t have any risk factors for an ectopic. I’ve heard the HSG can be very painful. I’m just not sure if it’s worth it or not.

Also, success stories of healthy pregnancies post ectopic are always welcome :)
