MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Reminder: Christmas gift requests are BANNED on r/Assistance

Since the rule breakers are already here, just a reminder.

If this is your first holiday season at [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), here are some things to keep in mind:

We do not allow requests for Christmas gifts (or Hannukah gifts, or Kwanzaa gifts, or Yule gifts...)

There are subreddits dedicated to these requests so that our subreddit can remain focused on essentials. Which brings us to our next point...

r/RandomActsofChristmas is opening for the 2026 season on November 1, 2026!

This is the only subreddit we recommend for folks needing help making Christmas bright for their kids. They do AMAZING work every year, and they have the capacity to handle everything Christmas so our subreddit can focus on other more urgent situations.

Links to other Christmas gifting subs are forbidden and will be removed automatically. Efforts to bypass this will result in a ban.

Requests for Christmas travel and Christmas meals are allowed.

This year we want to put some focus on the heart of the holidays -- people rather than presents. Requests for travel to see family for Christmas, requests for a turkey dinner with friends -- these can be requested without issue.

Christmas/Holiday Offers

While we don't allow requests for Christmas/holiday gifts in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), we will continue to allow **offers** of gifts, meals and other holiday-related cheer so our givers who want to give here in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance) can do so.

Some examples:

- "Help me buy Christmas gifts for my family" -- not allowed

- "Want to go home to X for Christmas" -- allowed

- "Let me order your family Christmas dinner" -- allowed

- "Will buy a Christmas gift for your child up to $20" allowed

A reminder that unless an offer is explicitly for Christmas requests, **the same rules apply.** If you are posting an offer over the holiday season, please help our mod team out by letting us know if it's essentials only or if folks can request gifts.

REQUEST I need help with my kittens medicine

This post is hard to make because i was always raised to be independent and do what i can and make do with what i have. I just HAVE to ask for help, i don’t want to watch my cat die.

Me and my boyfriend live on our own we both work full time jobs and still manage to live paycheck to paycheck. We don’t over spend and we’re smart with our finances and we’re currently looking for second jobs to fill in some of the gaps.

Anyways yesterday i noticed our kitten 7 months old, wasn’t acting like a kitten anymore and so i scheduled a vet visit for this morning. When we got there, within minutes the vets started assessing him saying it was wet FIP and we caught it in time if not he would’ve passed over the weekend. The vet told us it would be $2000 to treat him for the next 6 months and he NEEDED the medicine. We just simply cannot afford this, she gave us 5 donated pill for the next few days but the cost comes out to $333/month. She said we could cut some corners to try to lower the cost but it’s still a lot of money when we don’t have but $30 left over at the end of the month.

We go back to the vet on wednesday 10/28/26, if anyone could help us with the $333 for his first months of medicine we would really really appreciate it.

REQUEST [REQUEST] $120 – Dallas, TX – Two nights behind on my hotel, starting work Monday

• Upvotes

I've never asked for money here or anywhere else, so this isn't easy to write.

I was deactivated as a rideshare driver and had to return my rental car. Since then I've been riding the bus looking for work. I found one job, but the company lost its contract, so I was back to square one.

I'm staying at an extended-stay hotel in Dallas that costs $60 a night, and I'm two nights behind, $120 total. I applied for emergency SNAP two days ago and it's still pending. I donate plasma when I'm eligible, and my next donation day is October 26. I also start a new job Monday through Veryable, a work app that pays the next day.

I'm at risk of being put out before I can get to that first paycheck. I've barely eaten today and I'm doing everything I can to hold on until then.

I'm requesting $120 to cover the two nights I'm behind on the hotel. Whatever you can give towards that amount would mean more than I can say. Once I'm working, I'd be glad to pay it forward to someone else here.

Thank you for reading.

REQUEST [REQUEST] Serious Help for my Cat...

This is a long shot,

On Friday, I noticed my cat was very lethargic. Unfortunately, I didn't have a means of getting him to any Vet, and hoped I could hold till Tuesday.

On Tuesday, I walked my cat to a Mobile Vet Clinic and got him checked in for examinations. But due to a limited budget, I couldn't get a guaranteed answer, but the likely cause is some form of Kidney Obstruction.

I had no choice but to symptom treat on Tuesday, and hope he would improve. It's been around 2 days, and while there's some physical movement, he's still not eating nor drinking water. When I contacted the Vet, they were saying I have to consider taking him to an emergency vet clinic. But I just don't have the funds to cover a higher bill.

As of right now, I do not know the exact cost of treatment for a different vet clinic. However, as it was nearly $470 for the Mobile Clinic I went to, alongside the potential of needing surgery at this point, a worst-case cost would be at least $1,000. But as I have a potential idea and can hopefully expidite processes, I want to aim for around $500-$750 in a best case scenario. I'm not asking for people to donate the full amount all at once, just for donations to reach an amount.

I will aim for $500 (I typed in the dark, and mistook 6 for a 5) as a target goal for a Clinic Visit.

Due to a lot of personal issues, I only have CashApp available.
https://imgur.com/a/9uqNTCD

This is the recent vet receipt, as well as my cat, Karkat.

Thank You for your Time and Attention.

Side-Edit:
I formally saw my cat actually eat on his own. At the least, I'm not panicking for an immediate emergency clinic visit. I have a follow-up on Tuesday, and depending on what happens, may need to reconsider choices enough.

At least for right now, It's a massive sigh of relief.

REQUEST FULFILLED Need help feeding my cat (and I guess myself)

Hello, everyone, I hope this isn't a small enough reason to post here, it's my first time posting here, but I honestly have no idea what else to do and I'm getting really nervous. I'm a 37 year old man who used to be a waiter for over a decade, and I got laid off from my job about a month ago.

I don't have any family left (only child, both parents gone) and I've been single for the last three years (was in a relationship that lasted almost 8 years but when we broke up, I realized all my friends were actually all her friends, so I was left friendless for a while until I started opening up more at work, but the people were all alcoholics who loved to talk about drinking, and I don't drink at all, so i tended to stay quiet and didn't really connect with them).

Literally the only thing keeping me sane and going is my cat. She is so loving, such a cuddle bug, will never leave me alone when I'm home, and I feel like an absolute failure because I don't know how I'm going to feed her tomorrow. I used the last of her cat food today, and I ran out of cat litter almost a week ago, but I can't afford both cat supplies and my rent for next month. I've been hoping and praying for a job to call me back, but i haven't had any luck yet, and I have no one i can ask for help.

All I'm asking for is $40 so I can buy cat food and cat litter for the next month, which should (hopefully) give me enough time to find another job somewhere. I dont really have money for food for myself, but I can afford Ramen for a few months, my cat being able to eat is my priority right now.

I'm coming to the realization that a waiter job is probably not gonna happen, doesnt seem like any restaurant near me is hiring, so I've been applying to warehouse jobs, hoping at least ONE will call me back.

If anyone is willing and able to help, I can DM my cashapp info. I will leave a comment with a picture of my cat for the cat tax gladly.

EDIT: So sorry that I haven't responded to everyone who offered, I dont have reddit notifications turned on and had a busy day yesterday after I posted this, but THANK YOU to everyone who offered to help! I did a lot of googling to find out quick ways to make $$ near me, and after sifting through a few scam websites, I found out I could donate plasma at a plasma center very close to me! It wasn't much, but it was enough to get my cat food, litter, and even some bread and sandwich meats for me for the next week or two! It doesn't feel right to keep this up now that I have my cat taken care of, but I do want to thank everyone again who offered to help, it means a lot to me!

REQUEST FULFILLED Senior with no money left in the bank after paying dental bills for urgent dental treatment

Hi, everyone, and thank you so much for reading my post.

I'm a 72 year old retired and disabled, widowed senior living on a government pension. Recently, I have required expensive oral surgery to repair my maxillary sinus after a tooth extraction went wrong. A piece of the root of my tooth went into my maxillary sinus and I had to have it surgically removed and the floor of the sinus rebuilt, costing almost $2000. I have Pacific Blue Cross extended dental benefits, but they did not cover this procedure, and I was responsible for the full amount.

My only income is a (Canadian) government pension. Currently, I have zero funds in my bank account to pay for food and prescriptions (I do get a portion of my prescriptions paid for by Pharmacare but not the full amount) and don't receive my next pension payment until October 28th.

In order to buy some groceries and my prescriptions, I am requesting $100 for food and medicine. I would be so grateful for any support and am happy to pay it forward once I am able to. If you are able to help, please contact me via DM for my PayPal information.

Thank you again so very much for your help. Take care and have a really great day.

REQUEST [Request] Help needed for my kitten’s echocardiogram

Hi everyone, this is my first time requesting here so please bear with me.
I’m asking for help with my 7 month old kitten’s echocardiogram and subsequent treatment. After a recent visit to the vet, x-rays showed that my boy Gooby has an enlarged heart with some inflammation of the lungs. Because he’s still so young the vet believes that the cause of his enlarged heart is most likely congenital, but the only way to properly diagnose and treat any conditions is with an echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound).

He was rescued from the street at only a few weeks old and has grown so much, he is otherwise strong and playful, and he loves to eat and drive me crazy. But gone untreated these conditions can quickly take a turn for the worse and lead to heart and lung failure. I would happily do anything to take care of my guy, and I want to give him every chance for a long and happy life, but unfortunately I’m a college student and these unexpected medical bills have taken a toll on my finances. I haven’t been given the official pricing just yet, but the vet estimates that the echocardiogram and additional fees will cost between $700-$900.

I am posting a link to the GoFundMe I made for Gooby’s treatment, and would be so so grateful for any donations, no matter how small. If you can’t donate I completely understand, but feel free to share this link with any animal lovers you may know. I plan to add more details regarding his medical bills once I have them, but I assure that 100% of these funds will be going towards Gooby’s care.
Apologies for the long post, and I hope you can keep Gooby in your thoughts.

REQUEST Need help getting to work..

Hello all...

I've been out of work for the past two weeks, due to a bad ankle sprain (for the second time), so my check came up WAY shorter than usual...

I'm back in work, but after handling bills and meds, I'm now only at $29 to get to and from work and to get to the pharmacy for my brother to get his meds, over the next five days, starting tomorrow...

If I had at LEAST an additional $60usd, I think I'd be able to make it work until I get tips next week to help with the rest of the week!

I have CashApp and PayPal; it doesn't have to be the full amount!

I appreciate you for taking the time to read this.

REQUEST Starting life after graduation

I graduated on 9th this month. It was a good moment but I haven't been able to pay rent for this month and it's been making this graduation feel like nothing worth celebrating. I haven't even had a moment to sit and cool my head down. If there's someone out there able to even help me pay half my rent for this month I'd really appreciate. I'm from Kenya and can receive help through PayPal or Remitly. My rent is $50. Thanks for reading.

REQUEST FULFILLED [Request for help] My last chance

This is literally my last chance to get some help. I've been homeless for a year and a half. I finally have the chance to get housed. However, it requires a cross country trip. I'm desperately trying to raise some money or get help paying for the things I need to safely make the trip:

- car repairs ($95),

- tires (~$500); mine are currently bald and can't make the trip safely,

- uhaul cube (just 1, about $2,300). Someone here helped me get a storage unit last summer so I didn't lose everything and I need to move it,

- Lyme disease vaccine for my dog ($50) and heartworm prevention (~$25 per dose- we didn't need these on the west coast but will on the East Coast). Dog tax laid upon request!

- I'm also struggling to make my car payment and insurance (~$500 total). Since my car is my home, this is a super big priority.

I have a GoFundMe to try to raise funds but haven't had even 1 donation. I'm so defeated. I finally have a chance for housing, but am stuck. I highly doubt I'll raise anything, much less extra, but anything extra would be put toward a scan for the lump on my dog's head (I can send photos, if you like). It's likely bone cancer according to the vet at the clinic for homeless pets (they don't have scammers there). There are charities that can help with treatment, so I'm not asking for that, but I need a diagnosis first. But this is secondary to housing for us. I have some gas cards and plan to just keep sleeping in my car on the way, either in rest stops or Walmart parking lots.

I'm being transparent with the costs (I can get screenshots upon request), noting when they're approximate and will answer any questions. Link in profile.

Specific asks: donate 25+ (whatever you can or are willing to), share link found in profile, or if you're willing to cover or contribute to a specific cost listed, message me and we can work that out. Also, if you know of any charities or whatever that help with stuff like this, please let me know!

I feel so strangely, because I know there's an end in sight, but it feels so far away. I'm so scared I won't get there.

REQUEST FULFILLED Homeless just started work

There are two things that I'm urgently needing and that is first of brake pads for my e-bike, I am currently riding it without breaks which is not very smart but I have absolutely no choice right now. The other part would be very helpful also because I for some reason was denied ebt even though I've never received help that way. $30 would be immensely helpful. I asked my boss for a short advance for two weeks until I get paid but he always tells me that he does not carry cash unfortunately. I already got food this month from the only pantry in the area and there is also a community fridge but the only time I get a chance to get there everything's gone.

I'm not sure I've ever done this so I hope I did it right thanks for reading.

I really am struggling hard here like nothing else. I'm in a tent because there's no room in shelters and I don't like those places anyways that's full of drugs and angry people. But the job I got is a really good job but like I said did you not get paid for 2 weeks.

REQUEST Hotel / Transport - Car Life Was Repo'd

TL;dr - outside transit area and in need of a hotel, unexpectedly lost the car we were sleeping in. $75-$100 total, roughly, and we are not eligible for the standard assistance channels such as city hotel voucher.

Wife and have been doing Lyft and Spark and sleeping in car, car got repo'd last night at the truck stop we were using as a base outside of town. That's how we're stuck out here and in need of a hotel.

I'll go to Labor Ready in the morning and that will solve the rest, have job offers beyond that which offer pay on demand and will solve the remaining inmediate needs.

Have PayPal, or can name a specific hotel you could probably book online that's in the $55-$60 range.

Current needs: a night in a hotel so I can get some sleep and day temp tomorrow. A little bit for Lyft/Uber, we have $20 available and that's a bit short of the cost to the nearest transit park/ride from where we'd happily take the couple of buses and trains to get to the place I have in mind.

That hotel doesn't require a deposit for cash/debit, unlike most, and is accessible from transit.

It's been quite a year. Post and comment history is open. I believe I've followed all the rules, will edit if needed. X posted to borrow, as full disclosure. Not looking to double dip.

We are two able bodied adults, and would be exceptionally unlikely to qualify for city hotel voucher program through the in person evening intake. One of our families is unable to help, other is probably unable but we haven't heard back since early this morning when we realized we had a large problem. To my knowledge, we've explored all available resources.

Thanks for considering us.

REQUEST I can’t pay rent this month

Hi. This is the first time I’ve tried anything like this so I’m not sure where to start. My husband and I both had really good jobs until he was diagnosed with ALS. He had to stop working 2 months post diagnosis because the disease was already consuming his hands and his voice. Our baby was barely 3 months old when he was diagnosed. I had to leave my entire career to care for him because nurses are crazy expensive. I’ve been selling things online as much as I can and we had life savings that lasted about 18 months because he started needing a ton of things our insurance wouldn’t cover.

Basically, I’ve been caring for him and our toddler all by myself while trying to stay afloat. I have been so exhausted that I crashed into a car on a rainy day a couple of months ago and I had to pay a coinsurance fee, which was definitely not in our budget. I sold my phone, I’ve done everything I can think of to come up with money but here we are. I’m $800 USD short to pay our rent this month and I’m hoping to get help. Even a small amount will mean a lot to us.

REQUEST struggling to balance life expenses - just need help to stay afloat

i (18m) have been getting public housing on long island from the department of social services since my mother kicked me out at the start of the year. between unsafe areas and constant moving, i've struggled to keep a stable source of income - i can't afford a car for reliable travel to work, and freelancing art, writing or other projects takes online visibility that i just don't have.

between paying for my medication (my mother is messing with my insurance, and medicaid thinks i'm still covered under her), traveling to and from classes at the nearest community college, food, clothes, etc. the money that SNAP/EBT provides isn't enough - not to mention a trip upstate to another college that i have to attend next week, which is almost $100 round trip. i don't know what i'm going to do.

typically i wouldn't ask people online for money, but i am extremely desperate. if anyone could help at all, i'd like to have up to $200 to cover some clothes for the changing season (and laundry), hot meals, and hopefully clear the train tickets for next week. i can take apple pay or zelle, as well as set up something else up if that's easier. thank you guys for your time

VOTES Help me get into the top 5 <3

Hey everyone!

I'm an aspiring photographer, and I've decided to take a chance and enter the MAXIM Photography competition, and I've made it to the Entry Round Finals :)

There are less than 24 hours remaining, afterwards only the top 5 will continue, currently I am number 6, so I'm very close!

Vote here (For free): https://photography.maxim.com/t/EL5XJMBU

You can vote once per day as well!

If you have a moment to check out my entry and give me a vote, I'd sincerely appreciate it! You can also view a little of my portfolio on the website as well

Photography is something I genuinely love, and I'm working toward turning that passion into something more than just a hobby. Winning this competition would be an incredible opportunity to grow as a photographer, invest in my work and myself, and it would help open a lot of doors in terms of making my own photography business with the earnings.

However I'm up against some really talented photographers in the top 5, and I could really use a little support to keep moving forward.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help. Even one vote means a lot!

REQUEST Help getting used tire

Hi all, I know this is a very difficult time for everyone, and I'm grateful to this community for all you guys do and your willingness to help people in need. I'm currently trying to get to and from work and get my daughter to school, and this morning one of my tires blew out. I'm currently broke as I use the car for work, and I'm hoping someone might be able and willing to help by purchasing a used tire on u tire to be sent to my house. It's around $54, the link is below, I have a friend who is willing to tow my car to a shop and help me get it put on if I can get the tire, but I'm just unable to afford the tire itself. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my post, I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to being in a better position and to help someone on here when I can.
