Welcome to Thursday and another edition of the Weekly Recap where I, TheOpusCroakus, recap the past week in r/help and on Reddit. Since we last met, I have since had more than my share of Reese's pumpkins and am moving on to bats and ghosts for a while! On that note, let's move on to what we're all here for! The Recap!
NEWS AND ISSUES
In case you missed it last week, there's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.
There's still a bug that is affecting the ability to chat for some users in Canada. This should be getting fixed up this week (if it isn't already). Many thanks to u/jgoja for surfacing this and providing amazing details of the problem. Thank you!
There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. This is in an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page. A dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.
- Currently, this is only on a small group of pre-selected English-only posts. Comments with links, media, automated messages, profanity, or sensitive or inappropriate topics are excluded. If you are in this experiment, there is not a way to opt out, but you can always leave constructive feedback on this post and I'll share it with the team in charge of the experiment.
There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. This is only in select communities. If enabled, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a specific period of time, the sort switches over to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.
There is still the For You and Following tab experiment. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered.
- The For You tab will contain recommendations. The Following feed will contain unviewed content from just the subs that you follow. The team is looking into adding the sort options back to those feeds.
- If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content. The workaround is to either subscribe to more subreddits or create a custom feed of the subs that you're following and view that instead.
- There is not a way to remove these tabs if you are in the experiment, but I will share constructive feedback with the team in charge.
- To switch between the feeds, you just tap the tab that you want to view. This was previously a swipe, but thanks to feedback that was provided, it was switched to a tap to prevent accidental switching.
Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.
And there's an experiment where you may see Related Posts at the bottom of a post.
There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.
Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you!
And I'm here to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away (from Reddit for support). Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).
The most recent version of the app is 2026.41.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge.
Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!
[All Platforms] Some posts and comments aren’t clearing from the "Needs Review" section of the mod queue This is being investigated, but in the meantime, approving and then removing the content should get rid of it.
[Android] Some users with filtered posts are seeing the reply button on automod comments grayed out. This is being looked into, but it appears to only be affecting Android at this time.
[iPad] Some users are still missing the X button needed to close posts. We’ve reopened the investigation and are looking into it!
[iOS] Some community rules are being translated from English to...English? lol If you disable the auto-translation, that usually fixes this. It's also being looked into.
BUG FIX [All Platforms] Due to an error on this end on Tuesday, some users were seeing blank images for a little bit. This should be cleared up now, though!
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,332 posts. That's up 279 posts from the 1,053 that we had last week.
4,436 comments. That's down 564 comments from the 5,000 we had last week.
776k views. That's down about 38k-ish views from the 804k-ish views we had last week.
The drop in posts could be attributed to the new Help Navigator that recently launched, so that's great that it's helping.
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - STREAKS
Let's talk about streaks!
Reddit offers various Achievements that you can, well, achieve. You can read more about Achievements in this Help Center article. One of the Achievements available is a streak, which means using Reddit for continuous days in, well, a streak. Redditors can maintain their streak through daily participation on Reddit. Participation is more than just scrolling. You must interact with SFW content by either posting, commenting or voting EVERY DAY. If you miss a day, the streak is no longer a streak and it is over. NSFW content does not count toward a streak. If a streak is broken, it starts over from Day One. Streaks cannot be restored when they are broken.
If you think your streak has been incorrectly reset, YOU can check this yourself by going to your profile and looking at your posts, comments and votes. You may have to do this from old Reddit, but you can do it! If you're missing a day here or there, that's why your streak reset.
TL;DR A streak means interacting (by voting, commenting or posting) with SFW content every day and if you miss a day, your streak is broken, it starts over, and the streak cannot be restored.
