Unpopular Opinion: Barney and Robin didn't actually work. People just love Barney.

Hear me out on this. I feel like a lot of fans think Barney and Robin were "perfect together" purely because Barney is such a fun, entertaining character. But if you look past the comedy, their entire dynamic is built on manipulation.

Look at every major romantic milestone in their relationship: "The Robin" proposal, the rehearsal dinner, the bachelor party... none of it is realistic. It’s all elaborate, scripted theater that requires gaslighting, trickery, and mind games just to work. It makes for great TV fiction, but it’s a terrible, unrealistic partnership.

When things actually get serious, personal, or hard, Barney checks out or makes it about himself. Ted is consistently the one who shows up for Robin when it actually counts without an ulterior motive.

Barney and Robin were fun to watch, but as a actual couple, they were a mess. Am I the only one who feels like people confuse "fun TV character" with "good relationship"?

I honestly think fans who root for Barney and Robin liked the fictional drama of it all, but overlooked what a real, healthy partnership actually requires. People romanticize Barney's personality.

Just a reminder that the best thing about HIMYM was Lilypad and Marshmallow.

As Halloween approaches, it’s always good to have some back-up costumes ready in case you strike out in your first costume.

I’d make a hanging chad costume, but it seems like a nightmare to store.

Ted, Barney and Robin’s friendship after Robin and Barney get together is completely unrealistic

• Upvotes

Let me start this off by saying i know it’s just a sitcom and not meant to be wholly realistic. Barney slept with over 200 women, and then set his sights on the one woman his best friend was obsessed with and still in love with. What makes it even more unrealistic to me is how obsessed Barney was with the “bro code,” yet he completely disregarded it when it came to Ted and Robin. How was Ted able to stay friends with Barney and Robin and continue hanging out with him every day afterward? I can’t stomach the idea of my womanizer best friend hooking up with my ex, whom I was deeply in love with for many years and still am, and then being completely fine with it. This dynamic would almost never happen in real life, and it honestly ruins the show for me.

i give up i will never find a show as good as how i met your mother

it’s a very low effort post but i’ve had this thought the entire day and i just wanted to let it out on a place where i think at least a few people would get me. i’ve been watching HIMYM for the past three years, on and off, and i’m now 3 episodes away from finishing it. i’ve been trying to find another show as good, but nothing comes close. i already know I’m going to feel so empty when I finish it, which is why i’ve been looking for a follow up show to watch and honestly i give up. i don’t think i’ll ever find a show that hits the same way.

I rewatched HIMYM and liked what everyone hates

So recently somedays back i rewatched HIMYM atleast after some years. And I don't why but I felt is too much better to work on me specially in the comedy aspects.

Idk if it is life that resulted in this or what but I loved the show now. And for the ENDING somehow I liked the ending more than before.

When I watched the series for first time I felt that ending was bad and stupid but after watching second time it was better I think after you know what's going to happen and you watch it you understand the deep things that some episode before of ending holds.

And moreover i think when you experience something like this and life happens i guess that result in the opinion to change.

Or idk what but I liked it this time more that before.

Why HIMYM get so much hate and sitcoms in general?

so my feed in instagram and tiktok is full of himym clips, every time i read the comments there are people who shit on the show calling it unfunny, how people find this funny etc, and some go further to criticizing the show as part of hating on sitcoms overall.
my questions is why? because it's not recorded like community, the office, modern family etc? or because it's mainstream? or why exactly?
ps: HIMYM is a special case in sitcoms in the way it was recorded, without audiences or something.

HIMYM Survivor! (Season 4 Edition) Round 13

Wooo! is eliminated! Honestly, this is my favorite of the season, so I am very disappointed in this choice from this sub. Your taste is bad and you should feel bad!

How this works:

You select the episode you like the least

The episode with the most upvoted comment is eliminated from the list

Please either refrain from downvoting or upvote more episodes than you downvote

If there’s a tie, both episodes are eliminated

Only the best episode will win!

Episodes Eliminated:

Old King Clancy (31%)
Not a Father’s Day (80%)
Sorry, Bro (43%)
Mosbius Designs (46%)
Right Place, Right Time (68%)
As Fast as She Can (43%)
The Stinsons (50%)
Benefits (38%)
The Front Porch (36%)
I Heart NJ (67%)
Murtaugh (38%)
Woooo! (35%)

Ted was the reason all of his relationships before The Mother failed. None of his girlfriends were the problem (even the ones think sub thinks are bad like Zoey)

Ted was an insecure clingy misogynistic douchebag prone to love bombing every girl he took a liking to, often not taking no for an answer and then judging the girl for doing things he himself would usually do like having "baggage" or being too fast.

EDIT: I meant this sub thinks are bad

Barney Makes a Better Protagonist Than Ted

Barney is funnier, he's most interesting, he has a better arc throughout the show, and he's the only one with a satisfying conclusion in the finale (minus Marshall and Lily, they didn't really get much of an ending)
