Meme Me all day.
My 8yo daughter almost broke into tears when I told her that J Hurts was done for the year, far and away her favorite player. "He'll be back next year for the eagles, right dad? Cuz he's the best." I hope so, kid. It's much more than a game, rest up QB1.

Opinion Eagles organization is pathetic for leaving Nick out to dry in that press conference
Don’t care what you think about his coaching. Howie and Jeff are pathetic for that. After all he’s done. What an embarrassment for the organization. Howie and/or other operational staff members should have been there. Wtf does Nick know about why Jalen got on that flight. Nick might be a lot of things, but he loves his players. Super lame.

Opinion The Jalen Situation and the Proliferation of Misinformation
I commented this on a previous post, but given how frustrating it has been seeing person after person make unhinged proclamations, rooted in unfounded assumptions, has compelled me to make it its own damn post:
Less than a day into receiving the news regarding Jalen, and unsurprisingly, the reactionary takes generated by people with zero medical expertise or information outside of hot take media outlets (some of which have already been retracted) is proliferating faster than bacteria in a Petri dish. People are so quick to make dramatic proclamations about Jalen having potentially played his last game, without knowing the difference between a chronic genetic clotting disorder (thrombophilia) and a trauma induced blood clot (which Hurts' suffered). These are the same people quick to jump on the narrative of the organization not having acted responsibly with regard to Hurts' condition. There's a reason folks are encouraged against googling symptoms and self-diagnosing, and the same rule applies to this situation. Unless you're a medical professional, specifically one that has been working on Hurts' case, you really don't possess the information necessary to make assumptions or draw meaningful conclusions as it pertains to the situation. So maybe, spare us all the dramatic BS founded on information you don't possess, and let the cards fall how they may, ya jabronis.

Player Discussion Bowen: We still don’t know enough about Jalen Hurts’ situation, but we know the Eagles organization is reeling & looks incompetent

Player Discussion (Pelissero) Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is expected to be sidelined for multiple months after new imaging over the weekend found several blood clots in his lungs. Hurts is now on blood thinners and should have no long-term effects. But it’s unlikely he plays again this season.

Player Discussion [PELISSERO] How committed is Jalen Hurts to football? After initially being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in London, doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, so he had been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started against the Jaguars, throwing for 220 yards and a TD.
WHAT THE FUCK??

Player Discussion Olive branch
Hey Eagles fans im here to offer a olive branch from a cowboys fan for peace to say the hurts situation is genuinely scary. Even though he’s an eagle this is beyond football and I genuinely wish him the best. He’s a hell of a competitor and I never want to see a player risk their life for football. I wish him the best in his recovery and hope to see him back on the field again.

Picture Guys. They didn't even confirm the initial clot in the leg until after they got to London. Everybody put down the torches and pitchforks.
This is a very sad situation. It is simply not a case of malpractice or misconduct on the part of the organization.

The NFC Least strikes again. Our divisional opponents are making it harder and harder to actually full on tank the season. Three straight divisional games for us coming up on top of it.

Assuming Jalen Hurts makes a full recovery, it’s optimistic to believe this is a great chance for a reset year.

Injury News What the newest Jalen Hurts blood clot news means
Didn't think I'd need to update things this soon after my previous post about his blood clot, but here we are.
All the previous disclaimers apply about me not being his physician or having access to records etc.
First things first, his season is done. Period. The ABSOLUTE minimum duration for anticoagulant (blood thinner, which I'll abbreviate as AC going forward) for a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the large veins of the arms or legs, or DVT) and pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs, or PE) is 3 months. This differs from the superficial clots which can be treated for as little as 45 days. More likely though is 6 months of treatment. 3 months would obviously put him at January 15th roughly and 6 months would be mid-April.
To answer some questions:
Is this life threatening? Unlikely in this specific case. He was diagnosed promptly and he's a young and extremely healthy person. Blood clots in the lungs are absolutely life-threatening in general and I've had patients that have died from them. But like all diseases they exist on a spectrum and I suspect his are on the more mild side given there's no reports that he's been hospitalized.
Is this likely to be career-ending? Probably not. Multiple players have had clots like this and returned, including most recently Taylor Moton of the Panthers. Jalen will undergo testing to see if he is particularly predisposed to blood clots. If these tests came back positive, that would be of greater concern. In a typical patient who developed this type of clot and was then found to have elevated risk of blood clots, we would discuss and potentially put on AC for life. You obviously cannot play football on this medicine. Jalen could opt to forego that with very close monitoring for future clots but it'd be a persistent risk. There's also a procedure that he could have done to decrease the risk of clots getting to his lungs, but this wouldn't do anything to prevent clots in his legs and carries its own risks. There's also a risk of some chronic lung issues, though with prompt treatment that is less of a concern. He will need to get extensive testing in the spring to ensure all the clots have resolved before they will ultimately stop the medicine and after that would be cleared to return. He can continue non-contact training and conditioning during this time.
Did the flight cause this? It's not possible to say for sure. It surely didn't help matters, but my understanding is that the initial diagnosis wasn't even made til they were already in London. They could've considered putting him up in a hotel in the UK and letting him heal there, but he'd have had to agree to do so. Additionally, as I said in my last post, flying isn't an egregious choice if you're aware this is going on and take steps like getting up and out of your seat frequently to ensure blood flow.
How did it go from a minor issue to a major one? That's a good question. The risk in general of progression from superficial thrombophlebitis to DVT/PE is quite low, and even lower in young healthy people. The flight is a possibility, but I really wonder if the initial diagnosis was incorrect. Depending on when and how the ultrasound was performed, I think there's a decent chance that a small DVT was missed and it progressed from there. Extremely fresh clots can sometimes be a little harder to see on the ultrasound, especially if they're small and in one of the smaller veins. There's several things we do to check whether a vein has a clot or not on the ultrasound. But I think there's a chance it was misdiagnosed initially. And if he did in fact have an undiagnosed DVT then the flight certainly could've exacerbated it, as could playing the game in London.
Why didn't they let him sleep? 🤷 That isn't advice I ever have or ever would give a patient in this situation. Yes, your legs are not moving much while asleep but our bodies are built for that. You do more during certain phases of sleep, plus you're (usually) horizontal which improves venous blood return from the legs. There can be debates about compression sleeves and similar devices, elevation vs no elevation, etc but this was bizarre (if that is indeed what team doctors recommended).
Why is this season cursed? Regression to the mean of being a Philly sports fan.

Opinion Jalen Hurts Appreciation
Jalen Hurts isn’t a perfect QB. But we as fans are extremely lucky to have someone who is willing to put literally everything on the line for this team. What an insane and unlucky situation. A lot of teams would kill for a player as tough as Jalen Hurts.
Get well soon J.

Opinion Can we wait till we know what happened before freaking out about what happened?
Everybody has their pitchforks out pointing at the organization because of Hurts playing in the London game. As of right now their story is that they cleared Hurts to play and a follow up scan after the game showed something different than before the game. It is totally possible that it was a series of unfortunate events and no matter how badly we want someone to blame, that person doesn’t exist. It’s also possible that some people in the organization prioritized the team over Jalen’s long term health. If that’s the case there will definitely be an investigation and in time we will all know. I am not telling you what happened, I am just asking you to settle down until you know what happened.

Opinion [Berman] Where do the spiraling Eagles go from here?
It’s a new question for the Howie Roseman-Sirianni partnership. From 2022 to 2025, the Eagles entered November with 7-0, 7-1, 5-2 and 6-2 records. They’ve looked to bolster a championship-contending roster. This year, Roseman could be selling to other championship contenders.
If playoff contention seems like only an optimist’s dream by the end of the month, Roseman would benefit more from bottoming out than an inspired late-season push to improve the record. The latter occurred in 2011, when they were 4-8 and won their last four games to finish .500. Lurie called that finish “fool’s gold.” Roseman, who must be a steward of the franchise’s long-term interests, would benefit more from higher draft picks (and more draft capital) than from the cosmetic appeal of a better record. This is an organization that effectively tanked its 2020 season finale, which better positioned it for the draft and let Roseman be creative in adding draft picks in a series of moves to build a Super Bowl roster.
The problem with this conversation? The worse the Eagles finish, the worse it is for Sirianni’s future with the organization. This might be a sensitive subject — and some might even call it unfair speculation — for a coach who has won a Super Bowl and has the best winning percentage among qualified active coaches. One losing season, with the franchise quarterback lost after Week 5, would seem like an acceptable mulligan.
This is also where Lurie’s history is instructive. The focus has been on trajectory — not resume.
After the 2020 season, Pederson was fired after his first post-Super Bowl losing season. Lurie said Pederson did not “deserve” to be dismissed, but the franchise made the move to set a new direction. If Pederson had returned in 2021, Lurie felt the coach would need to do everything possible to maximize that season. The Eagles knew they needed to build for beyond 2021.
Lurie fired Chip Kelly in 2015 after his first losing season following two 10-win campaigns. The franchise’s direction was a concern. After the 2012 season, Lurie moved on from Andy Reid — the winningest coach in franchise history — when Reid needed a change of scenery and the Eagles needed a fresh voice.
