61 Day Update as Vikings Fan
Quit my job, moved to Minnesota (from Miami) after abandoning the Dolphins 61 days ago.
Since then the Vikings are udefeated.
I have been told by a fellow skoldier to wear a cup around town, because the proverbial kick in the nuts typically comes sometime around Week 11.
So far its been good though. See you guys in a couple weeks.

Bye Week Warhammer
No game this week but I did finish more of my purple and gold army.
I've got some berserkers with hammers (Vikings Defense)
A buggy and the Ironmaster mechanic with his helpers.
5-0 Skol!

Who Cares Remember when Sean Payton "tricked" us into thinking he wanted JJM in the draft, when he really wanted Bo Nix the whole time?

Video Brian Flores is an evil genius, not a mad scientist
Found this interesting enough to share

Reichard’s 34 straight fg’s and counting
Will the thrill has made 34 straight non extra-point kicks. He’s 2 away from passing the all-time Vikings record of Gary Anderson (35 straight) in ‘98.
He’s 11 away from passing Vinatieri’s 44 consecutive fg’s made.
Some context behind this streak:
-his only two misses last year were the London wire miss, and the end-of-half rushed kick vs the chargers.
-if he had made both of these, he would have 55 straight field goals made which shatters the NFL record.

The Seahawks are nearly identical to the Vikings but they are turning the ball over and missing FGs

Discussion What makes a Flores defense so special/unique?
Is it really as simple as “spam blitz”? If so, I’m surprised that more teams aren’t copying it (the NFL being a copycat league).
Or is that our roster is really good for this scheme?
Like if you were to drop Flores on a “bad” defense and try to spam blitz 70% of the time it wouldn’t work because the players aren’t made for it.

Discussion This 5-0 start feels a little different;
Than the last 5-0 start I remember. LFG!
Year of the optimism baby.
SKOL!

The perfect team is almost complete, Skoldiers
Every year I try for an all Vikes fantasy team while still being competitive. Greatness is within reach
(Parker Washington, ceedee lamb and Derick Henry have done A LOT of heavy lifting but we will not take away what the defense and Reichard have done for us)

It's "kinda" official, r/minnesotavikings favorite player is a kicker
Results of my survey after Sunday's game. Will the Thrill won by 2 votes over JJ, so I think we could call it a tie. Of the "someone elses", seems like Redmond and Cashman were top 2, but I think the top 5 were certainly the choices given.

Discussion Why doesn’t JJ get targets like JSN
I have little to really complain about with us being 5-0 but I do have one gripe. Why doesn’t Jefferson get as many opportunities as the other elite receivers. He’s at least in my opinion still the best receiver in the league but he just doesn’t get elite receiver targets like Jsn, puka, chase. I feel like he should still be having those 150 for two tds games still.

Kyler <> Jettas connection is growing: “I saw him run into the guy, the corner changed back. I was like f*ck it I’m throwing it to the spot.”

Discussion NFL Take-O-Meter: Kevin O’Connell is a Brian Flores whisperer, not a QB whisperer.
here's an interesting tidbit from an article on The Ringer I don't think I've seen discussed during the KOC and/vs Flores debate:
Kevin O’Connell is a Brian Flores whisperer, not a QB whisperer.
"I’m ready to bury “QB whisperer” as a term right here and now. It doesn’t actually mean anything tangible, and it’s usually applied to guys who coached under McVay or Shanahan at some point. KOC doesn’t deserve that tired moniker—because his whispers to superstar DC Brian Flores are more valuable than anything O’Connell has said to any QB he’s ever coached.
O’Connell hired Flores in 2023, gave him ownership over the defense, and is 5-0 right now because of it. Flores hasn’t let off the gas since Week 1; his defense leads the NFL in pretty much every important metric (EPA, points, yards). O’Connell and Murray are undefeated while achieving historically bad offensive efficiency because Flores has saved their asses on the other side of the ball, which O’Connell (not Murray) deserves more credit for than I initially was willing to give him. Even if Flores eventually leaves Minnesota for another gig, O’Connell’s willingness to give someone else complete ownership of their side of the ball will help attract other in-demand defensive play callers if/when that time comes. Not a lot of head coaches have that trait, and most other “QB whisperers” are just hiding behind the bit until everyone finally catches on."

Vikings Week 6 Rooting Guide
From the Vikings Week 6 Rooting Guide
The Vikings' current chances:
- Make playoffs: 76.3% (Last week 67.4%)
- Win division: 43.1 (36.7)
- Top seed: 18.8 (14.4)
The Vikings have a bye this week, so here's how the rest of the league's games affect their chances:
| Game | Impact | Make Playoffs | Win Division | Top Seed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cardinals over Rams | 6.7 | 1.2 | (-.0007) | 1.3 |
| Falcons over Bears | 5.9 | 0.9 | 4.0 | 0.4 |
| Broncos over Seahawks | 4.9 | 1.2 | 0.004 | 0.8 |
| Commanders over 49ers | 4.3 | (-0.1) | 0.007 | 3.1 |
| Cowboys over Packers | 1.6 | 0.4 | 2.0 | (-0.1) |
| Saints over Giants | 1.5 | 0.4 | 0.005 | 0.2 |

| Chiefs over Chargers | 0.01 | 0.003 | 0.001 | |
| Jaguars over Texans | 0.004 | 0.002 | (-.003) | (-.001) |
| Browns vs Ravens |
Week 5 couldn't have gone much better. The Vikings won 23-13 in New Orleans to go 5-0, and almost every other game went their way too: Green Bay beat Chicago 31-7, San Francisco beat Seattle, Buffalo beat the Rams, Jacksonville beat Philadelphia and Baltimore beat Atlanta. Only Detroit's win in Arizona went the wrong way. That moved the Vikings' playoff chances from 67.4% to 76.3%, and the top seed from 14.4% to 18.8%.
Detroit also has a bye, so the division games this week are the Bears and Packers. Atlanta over Chicago is worth 4.0% for the division. Dallas over Green Bay helps the division by 2.0%, but it slightly hurts the top seed, since Dallas is also an NFC contender.
Arizona over the Rams is the biggest game of the week, and it ties Denver over Seattle tonight as the biggest boost to making the playoffs at all, at 1.2% each. Washington over San Francisco is the biggest game for the top seed at 3.1%, even though it does nothing for the Vikings' chance to make the playoffs, since a Washington win also helps another NFC team. Philadelphia's odds have dropped sharply in the betting market (their win total is 8.5 with the over now at +210, from -110 last week), so Carolina over Philadelphia barely matters any more.
The AFC-only games at the bottom only matter for Strength-of-Victory and Strength-of-Schedule tiebreakers. The Vikings want wins by Indianapolis (week 7 opponent) and Buffalo (week 9). Jets-Patriots barely registers because the Vikings play both of them. The Vikings play none of the teams in Chiefs-Chargers, Jaguars-Texans or Browns-Ravens, and Browns-Ravens has no measurable effect at all - in two million simulated seasons, theres was not a single case where changing the result of that game changed the Vikings' playoff position.
The Rooting Guide simulates seasons using current betting lines, and evaluates how each game affects the Vikings' playoff chances.
All values show the difference between the Vikings' chances with the given game result compared to the opposite result.
For example, an Atlanta win over Chicago gives the Vikings a chance of winning the division 4.0% higher than a Chicago win.
Impact is the net percentage of simulated seasons where changing the game's result improves the Vikings' playoff seeding.
