Pre-Game Thread Rise Up AZ - Game Week Thread: Week 5 | Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals

Brissett you a bum throwing that pick 6 to end last week's game.

Another painful loss, not enough to get it done. We expected this but damn does it suck seeing guys ball out for the defence and QB to fall flat. Now we facing one of the meanest rush offenses arounds with Gibbs... ouch

MHJ has what is really his must do something game, if he can't statpad on the sorry Lions defence then all hope is lost. - One time I write this early and this bs happens, vague ahh trade news

I expect a great offense game from both sides here, don't bet the under.

PS: I've grown so sick of the Ralis defence that I have signed up with my College amateur football team to see what I can do. Because it can't be as bad as some of those defence right?

Feel free to discuss anything here before the main thread.

Stop it

Some of the posts the last few days about Beck, including the one about Beck vs. Stafford senior year of college, still somehow have Jacoby homers in it, and I swear to god, I cannot for the life of me understand it.

The basic argument goes “well he’s throwing for like 250-300 a game and 3 touchdowns.”

But here’s why it’s such a lazy argument: if you take 5 seconds to dig into it, here’s the cold hard truth they you need to face: he doesn’t do anything to win you games. Yeah, he’s probably not gonna do anything to lose you games either ”stat wise” (giants game notwithstanding), but take 5 seconds, look up some game tape, and watch. He’s so predictable: every defense knows exactly who he is going to. They can predict very easily the amount of yards he will generally throw a ball (spoiler alert: 10 or less), they watch his eyes to know where he’s going, and they know how to jam him up enough that the offense will struggle to be on the field. Last week, we were on the field 45/15 defense to offense. Our defense is ass but even the best units in the league would struggle if their offenses were that bad (see: 2026 Seahawks) and they’re better than we are. So yeah, stats wise cool he threw for 3000 yards and a 23/8 TD:INT ratio, but google how much of that is in garbage time when we’re down 20+. You know how many guys could do that ? Do you want to know how bad he is with hard data? It took me less than a minute to find.

  • 2025 Season Splits (with Arizona Cardinals):
    • In Losses: 12 games played, 3,105 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 8 interceptions (92.6 passer rating)
    • In Wins: 2 games played, 261 passing yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs
    • Context: Roughly 92% of his passing yards and 80%+ of his touchdowns in 2025 came in games the Cardinals lost, as Arizona spent the majority of those contests trailing or playing from behind. [1]
  • Want me to get real broken down? Here’s 2026, in a nice chart for you
Game Situation Comp / Att Cmp % Passing Yards TDs INTs Passer Rating
When Leading (All) 19 / 30 63.3% 178 1 2 62.9
↳ Leading by 1–8 points 18 / 29 62.1% 172 1 2 61.3
↳ Leading by 9–16 points 1 / 1 100.0% 6 0 0 91.7
Trailing by 1–8 points 23 / 37 62.2% 161 2 2 67.5
Trailing by 9–16 points 31 / 41 75.6% 232 1 0 96.8
Trailing by 17+ points 27 / 38 71.0% 269 3 1 106.1

So please, tell me more about riding with Jacoby. I’m tired of all you homers, stop accepting sucking. You’re the problem.

I don’t care if it’s Beck or Minshew or fucking Santa Clause or Jesus Christ himself, but goddamn, stop accepting bullshit.

I‘ll be here to lead the charge when Jacoby is benched.

Mike LaFleur Wants Cardinals Receivers to 'Dream of Man Coverage' With Trey McBride Doubled

Excerpt:

Mike LaFleur wants his Arizona Cardinals receivers treating man coverage like an invitation. With Trey McBride drawing double teams and Marvin Harrison Jr. now playing in Houston, the head coach needs his wideouts winning one-on-one, and he wants them craving it.

"You dream of man coverage. You can't wait for man coverage," LaFleur told the team's website this week. "It's me versus you, I don't care who you are or what the name is on the back of your jersey, I am going to beat you. I know we have guys that have that mindset. Now we have to go do it."

Roy Lopez: Cardinals defense needs to 'the full 60 minutes' to have success

Thumbnail

Excerpt:

“it’s just being ourselves for 60 minutes. Down in, down out, whether you get punched or you don’t, right? And when you get punched, it’s lining back up, right? It’s the next play,” Lopez told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Friday. “It’s stop the run. It’s force them to pass and make a play, right? Whether that’s pass rush or in coverage. You play the full 60 minutes. Whether you get the ball at the minus-20 (or) you get the ball at the 50. Doesn’t matter. Wherever the ball’s placed, lining up.”

How to make money while losing

With all the Bidwill talk going around I was curious and did a little research--maybe some of you already knew this stuff.

  1. With NFL revenue sharing each team receives approximately 400M per year from TV contracts and league sponsorships. That's almost 100M over the Salary cap but admin, scout, trainer, coach, facilities etc is not included in that so---cheap owners get to keep more of it. It is estimated even the least profitable franchises make 21M in operating income per year.
  2. They then also make money on ticket sales, team branded merch, concessions, corporate sponsorships.
  3. The Bidwills don't own the Stadium, the AZSTA does, so for non football events Bidwills get zero ticket sale income, but they do own the food and beverage commissions, they made 4.8M from this is the most recent year.
  4. They get naming rights for the stadium-state farm pays between 8-9M per year.
  5. Parking and surcharges: Cardinals control most of the infrastructure surrounding the stadium. Estimated 12.8M on season parking and surcharge costs but the rules change for non football events so not sure on those.
  6. They have to pay a flat fee to AZSTA for football ticket sales but keep the rest.
  7. Ticket sales are subject to NFL revenue sharing--Cardinals keep 34% NFL gets 66% of GENERAL admission. Luxury Suit and premium club seats--Cards get 100%. Casitas anyone?
  8. IF they invested in winning they would get Playoff revenue boosts, they get a higher percentage of ticket sales, higher cut of local stadium revenue, and usually a spike in merch purchases. A winning owner usually getting more business deals, and powerful positions on league committees.

Long story short...not a lot of motivation to win as an NFL owner other than to not be a laughing stock, which I think Bidwill got used to a long time ago.

Jalen Brooks and Reggie Virgil

Excited to see what these guys can bring with a full week of practice in their new roles.

They both flashed in the preseason and in their first game combined for 4 catches for around 40yards. Not great but something.

They’re both young/inexperienced and getting game reps will really help. Neither will be asked to carry the team and expectations are hopefully a good 3rd receiver the team really needs right now.

If the Cardinals offense could turn it around? What would you need from these two?

I think if they can combine for an average of 5-6 catches a game for 65+ yards that would allow every other part of the offense to work better.

What do people think?

*if you’re answer is bench Brissett. I know. I agree. He should be gone but it’s so obvious that it’s boring.

Cardinals Climb - Fundraising Question

Not football related, but Cardinal related. My family is interested in doing the Cardinal's climb next year. It looks like the fundraising requirement is $250/adult - is this correct? Or is it $250 for 1 adult and the rest of the family can go under the 1 adult?

We have 2 special needs kids and have done a lot of fundraising in the past. We're just a little leery of asking for more fundraising money from our friends and family, and we can't afford to donate the $500 on our own.

It looks like an amazing event and we'd love to participate, but want to know what we are dedicating fiscally first.

It is the only uniform the Cardinals have won in this season. They wore them in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers in a 26-14 win.

As a lifelong Cards fan, please just NUKE the entire team.

Fire everyone. Ban the Bidwills. Change the name. Create an entirely new team.

The name “Cardinals” hardly suits Arizona at all. We barely have any Cardinals in this state. They are a rare sighting.

Call them the Wrens or the Rattlers or hell even the Coyotes. I’m so fed up with the Cardinals that I really, truly would like to see the team completely demolished and replaced.

EDIT: Other names that would be MUCH more appropriate for the state of Arizona include:

The Scorpions, The Phoenix, The Roadrunners, The Gila Monsters, The Jackrabbits, The Monsoon, The Bobcats, The Rattlers, The Copperheads, The Outlaws, The Apache, The Heat… I could go on and on with better names than the god forsaken “Arizona Cardinals” ugh

2nd EDIT: I don’t know if I can ever be a true fan of this franchise ever again if they don’t do SOMETHING regarding the state of the team. I won’t even watch our own games anymore at this point. I have barely watched any of the games this season because I KNOW it would just be massively disappointing to me.

Given the franchise’s LONG history, we are UNDENIABLY the WORST team in the entire NFL…and it’s not even close. If we win every single game for the next 10 years, we would STILL have a losing record overall. WTF

Off to a good start, now we just need to get 500 more of these all over the valley

Pitch in here:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/arizona-deserves-better-sell-the-cardinals?modal=donations&tab=all

Even if it’s only $5, look at the amount of $5 donations that have come in. This is a grassroots campaign which can ultimately make a difference, due to the amount of media coverage this is getting.

Will this convince Bidwill to sell? Absolutely not, but maybe it’ll force him to take a look in the mirror and realize that things need to radically change, before the anger from this outraged fanbase transforms into apathy. Nothing is worse than an apathetic fanbase from an ownership perspective.

A pair of digital billboards in the Valley read “SELL THE TEAM” and “#BIDWILLOUT” in an effort by Arizona Cardinals fans to voice their frustrations with the state of the franchise and owner Michael Bidwill.

A fundraiser started by Arizona sports influencer Nathan Kropp, who goes by Mr. AZ Sports on social media, had garnered nearly $4,000 by midday Wednesday with Sun Angel Collective co-founder Scott Harkey committing to match.

Bidwill Protest

I know there have been a lot of posts about Bidwill so far but this is the first time I think we as fans are unifying in pure disgust over his ownership. With Billboards calling for him to sell and fan attendance dropping, we are starting to hit his ego which might show change. I think we should ramp up the pressure with boo'ing him and protesting him during the games. Him getting embarrassed will hurt him the most, it ultimately wont make him sell but it will hit his ego so much that he will do whatever he can to win to end that which in turn helps us all.

Gambo mentioned how public pressure on Sarver was so high it forced him to finally pay and get Monty which changed everything, I think its valid because Sarver and Bidwill are very similar owners.
