Couple of months into the hobby. In the past I have never understood how people can end up owning hundreds of pocket knives - but I completely 'get it' now. Discovering a super cool knife shop a mile from my house is the enabler. Disposable income = not found.

Man, this Kizer Marten 330 in purple with the electric blue accents looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. Really digging it.

The Kizer Aegis T is a little tank! Really smooth out of the box, and a better lockup and less blade play than my Hogue Deka.

Gotta say though, I'm not as impressed with the button lock as I thought I'd be. Maybe it was too much hype. I think I still like the crossbar lock. We'll see over time though.

Last week I managed to snag a grail I've been chasing for 5 years - A Mitch Clark Gunstock, on the secondary market. I ended up finding out that the gentleman who sold it to me is actually quite involved in the YouTube passaround groups. My friend who facilitated the deal (Michael, you rock) mentioned to him that I had a YouTube channel, and this gentleman, without me requesting or expecting anything, ended up sending me 10 knives along with the custom I had purchased so I could experience them.

It's really crazy how deep this hobby goes if you look for it. As I get deeper into the custom scene, I realize how much of this 'industry' runs on relationships and how intertwined the community members are. I'm forever grateful for this gesture. In exchange for experiencing these knives, I'll be sending him some professionally edited photos, will be cleaning up the knives, and offered to put a rockstead-level mirror edge on a knife of his choosing before I return them to him.

I just thought I'd share. You hear about this kind of stuff sometimes, but you never actually expect to experience it firsthand.

Knives, as seen in this photo:

Sparrow Knives Strix | KB Knives Venom

Bestech Mini Taipan | Tempest Knives Mach71 (Prototype)

Golden Designworks Subcaliber | Kansept Halide (Prototype)

Winterblade Co Mythic | Poikilo VK - Crab

Gecko Customs Pictus | Kunwu Excalibur

7.5" Oal with a 3" blade. Made from CPM Magnacut steel with FatCarbon Orange DarkMatter CF bolsters, Tiffany blue G10 spacer and Black/Orange Ridgeline Gcarta scales with black G10 pin/tube.

Thanks for looking! I'd love to hear what you think.

My books are open for custom orders! If you've been thinking about having a knife made, shoot me a message and let's see what we can come up with.

Have a knife day!

Question Top Selling Brands?

Post image
12 Upvotes

What do you believe are the top selling knife manufacturers on the market today?
If you walk into a store, what names would you like to see?
I run a sporting good store down here where I’m from, and we sell a bunch of knives.
I currently carry case, Benchmade, microtech, and spyderco… a few CRKT & kershaw. We have carried Boker before and some of it did well some of it didn’t. I moved away from them.
If you were adding two new manufacturers, who would they be?

Thoughts on Protech, ZT, and civivi?

MKM Makro and the MKM Mikro. They are both excellent blades. Even the Mikro is a very capable knife and it’s actually more comfortable to hold than I would have thought. The Makro handles about anything and feels very good in hand. I’ve got to say I’m very impressed with their quality and I’m definitely happy with my purchase.

Damn if it isn’t the perfect blend that I was looking for. Small enough to carry big enough to do any job needed. Exactly how they market it. Only issue I see in the future is constantly singing “Fight Like A Brave” by Red Hot Chili Peppers every time I grab it.

Discussion What do my Boss’s knives say about him!?

Post image

Long story short, my Boss is really into Knives and gifted me a Chris Reeve’s Backpacker today to try and get me into the hobby of collecting! I love the knife and am very thankful for the gift.

He brought his Knives into work today and I’m just curious!? What do his knives say about him!? Seems like it could be a fun post and he said he would love to play along since he doesn’t have Reddit. Thanks guys!

I've made this knife! (OC) How a ram horn becomes the handle of a Sardinian friction folder: heated and straightened by hand (sound on)

After the piccadura post yesterday, a few of you asked about the horn. This is how a resolza handle starts: a curved ram horn, heated and straightened by hand in our workshop in Pattada, Sardinia. Then it's sanded from coarse to fine grit and polished. My family has been making the resolza, the traditional Sardinian friction folder, since 1985. Happy to answer questions about the horn and the process.
