Spam filter is being too aggressive. Post mods if your post doesn't show when you are logged out / in incognito mode.

Hello everyone,

Lately I've had to manually unspam a lot of totally legitimate posts. The Reddit spam system is not totally under the control of the moderators so I can't fathom why it's blocking allowed content or how to modify its sensitivity. If you posted a topic you think is fine, and it's not showing when you are logged off or in an incognito window, please message the moderators to inquire what may be the problem.

Sorry for any inconvenience,

—G.

A new Sword I modeled

Modeled using Blender
Textured using Substance Painter

I had some comments about adding finger rings to one of my older swords models and thought I would just model a new sword from scratch. Was actually really enjoyable to make, still have to get around to making a scabbard but, so far so good.

I will most likely mod this into Skyrim, any good name ideas for a sword like this?

(First picture are renders, but I then noticed some weird normal issues on the handle, so fixed them and just added new pictures after to show the update)

Dull, rusted, guard is broken, and it comes apart if you unscrew the pummel, neat though.

Cutlass!

Went to a local antique fair this morning and one of the regulars had this. Royal Navy P1858 type 2 cutlass bayonet. Been after a cutlass for a bit but they seem to be fetching quite high prices, so very happy to find that the dealer had dropped the price on this. No scabbard and missing the locking spring but in fairly good condition. Has been varnished at some point so I'm going to give it a good clean. Can see partial marks, a Soligen inspection stamp for starters. Hopefully will see more when it's cleaned properly.

New Scabbard for an Albion Reeve

Finished this scabbard commission for an Albion Reeve yesterday. I know I’ve said this before, but as much as I enjoy doing colorful, elaborate designs, there’s something about a plain, simple scabbard that is just really satisfying.

New Sword Day!

Been wanting one of these for a while. Finally came in today.

U.S. Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword.

Very hefty, could double as a club if nothing else..

Next step is to get it sharpened up.

Also, kind of funny/interesting, the scabbard on it is super tight. But otherwise seems well made.

Viability of a tri-Edged sword?

I have a star picket that I use as a fire stoker and from time to time wield it as a sword when I’m drunk role playing by the fire.

From my ability to wield it and my thoughts, it has slashing potential, bludgeoning weight and piercing capabilities. Why is this not a thing, or if it is please provide examples.

It is weighty I admit, but with the right technique, easily enough manipulated

Castille Armory Economy Basket Hilt. Really digging it so far, also my first non-rapier one handed sword (I'm all about that Longsword life).

Identification What sword is the Finnish soldier in the picture carrying

It's a colorized WW2 photo so the hilt color might be wrong. I found that Deepeeka sells a similar reproduction and calls it Soviet officer cavalry saber.

Weird Family sword kinda sharp it’s been in the family since end of 19 century.
I was from my great grandfather’s uncle who was in Vietnam for the French colony I think.
My grandma confirmed that I was very old the sheet seems to be brass and the inside wood.
I don’t expect it to be a super rare artefact but if any of you can help me identified it 🫠
Thx Reddit !

Hickory or ash for spear shafts?

• Upvotes

For a 6-8' (1.83-2.44m) shaft, at about 1 and 1/4" (3.2cm) in diameter, would ash or hickory be the most durable overall choice?

If you believe that a different wood is superior, name it regardless.

This is probably the best community to ask the question to, despite not specifically being about swords.

Mole Brass Guard P1853

Thumbnail

Just picked this one up this morning. I was aware of the missing outer bar, but was not aware it had a brass guard or was stamped Mole on the spine. Hidden by the scabbard appears to be another stamp, though corroded; looks like 4 letters starting with M to my eye, so maybe another Mole stamp - we’ll see what some oil and light cleaning reveals. I can’t find too much on brass guards, so any leads or info would be appreciated.

Trying to define what type of sword one might call this.

I am trying to find the best fit of what type of sword Heroic Challenger Nightwatchman (Yugioh) is holding.
It looks to me like it has a thick blade a bit like a machete but curves to a point, lacks a cross guard, is one and a half or two handed.
I am curious if anyone has an idea of what type of sword best fits that description?
