It's a colorized WW2 photo so the hilt color might be wrong. I found that Deepeeka sells a similar reproduction and calls it Soviet officer cavalry saber.

Viability of a tri-Edged sword?

I have a star picket that I use as a fire stoker and from time to time wield it as a sword when I’m drunk role playing by the fire.

From my ability to wield it and my thoughts, it has slashing potential, bludgeoning weight and piercing capabilities. Why is this not a thing, or if it is please provide examples.

It is weighty I admit, but with the right technique, easily enough manipulated

As I understand it's an 1850 staff and field officers sword correct? It was hard to find info besides reproductions and props for sale on google lol. Also would it be reasonable to learn and restore it myself, or do I need to get a specialist? I don't want to fuck up an heirloom like this lol. Info on any of that would be appreciated.

Trying to define what type of sword one might call this.

I am trying to find the best fit of what type of sword Heroic Challenger Nightwatchman (Yugioh) is holding.
It looks to me like it has a thick blade a bit like a machete but curves to a point, lacks a cross guard, is one and a half or two handed.
I am curious if anyone has an idea of what type of sword best fits that description?

Just received, not cleaned yet.

A dao (?) with a huge and unusual grip.

I have small hands, but that's still a pretty large grip. Most dao (or truong dao) I see online with this blade shape have a ring pommel and a rattan wrapped hilt. Here, the grip is very reminiscent of some South-China / North-Vietnam knives.

The blade is quite impressive, with a strong distal taper from 5mm at the guard to less than half a mm at the point. The first two third or so of the blade are unsharpened. Some big damages on the edge, as well as on the guard, but hey it was cheap! Interestingly, there is a big indent on the flat at around two thirds of the blade that warped it, and left a bump on the other side, not really sure what might have caused this... 🤔

Anyway, a somewhat crude but frightening weapon! Not exactly sure of what it is yet, but I'm happy to add this interesting piece to my collection.

Two other swords with some similarities : https://www.ashokaarts.com/regions-tribal-regions/large-chinese-dao-sword-of-chopper-or-cleaver-type/

Weird Family sword kinda sharp it’s been in the family since end of 19 century.
I was from my great grandfather’s uncle who was in Vietnam for the French colony I think.
My grandma confirmed that I was very old the sheet seems to be brass and the inside wood.
I don’t expect it to be a super rare artefact but if any of you can help me identified it 🫠
Thx Reddit !

Where could I buy affordable but good quality swords in Ontario?

I just bought my first sword and I REALLY happy with it, but it was quite expensive since it was shipped through the states. Are there any good options for swords in Canada?

I’m trying to buy my bf a sword & I have no idea where to start.

Hi! I’m trying to buy my bf a sword for christmas. Specifically the Ichigo Kurosaki Bankai sword.

I’ve seen positive and negative reviews from a bunch of sites (TrueSwords, MiniKatana, etc.) but I’m not sure what to believe or not. It’ll be put on the wall for display & not physically used but I don’t want the sword to just be plastic. A nicer metal would be preferred.

Please lmk! I’m new to all this sword talk & would really appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!!

Mole Brass Guard P1853

Just picked this one up this morning. I was aware of the missing outer bar, but was not aware it had a brass guard or was stamped Mole on the spine. Hidden by the scabbard appears to be another stamp, though corroded; looks like 4 letters starting with M to my eye, so maybe another Mole stamp - we’ll see what some oil and light cleaning reveals. I can’t find too much on brass guards, so any leads or info would be appreciated.

My granma has been trying to find info as to what exactly this sword is. She got it years ago at a yard sale and in moving around her room she found it again. Any info will be greatly appreciated and keep my mom from using ai to figure it out.

Buying a katana first time.

I found a store with some cool-looking swords from an anime, and I had two questions. One is that they say one is meant for decoration and is not sharp, and that one is $89 apiece. Then, they have one that they say is battle-ready and already sharp, and they say it is higher quality. That one is $200. Would you guys go for the $200 one or the cheaper one? I only plan on using them for decoration and showing off. Next question: I will be going to a school in about a year where I won’t have the swords with me; they would have to be in storage or with my family. Is there upkeep I have to do on them?

The swords are from demon slayer one is a black sword form Tanjiro and a weird design which belongs to Inosuke and a lot more I think are cool. The swords are being sold from 7 imports in the mall in Olympia.

Swords You Hate and Why?

I kind of have an irrational hate to one specific sword type and I know its controversial because of terminology and descriptions vary but here goes.........

I HATE Hand and Half Swords or Bastard Swords whatever you fancy calling them.

Here why: The Hilt is too short or two long. I get its ment to be used with a shield but I cannot for the life of me use one effectively. I hate how when I'm using two hands the pommel bits into my hands. And when I use it one I feel like I'm pulling the pommel like sledgehammer behind it. I have fairly decent sized hands and wiegh 200s as well. A

Arming Swords are better with shields

Longsword are better with 2

Keep hand and Half Swords on the rack.
