Current WIP - got some new equipment recently that I'm putting through it's paces and seeing how they all function together as a complete process.
Water quenched this one to see if there's any noticeable improvement to edge retention / stone work etc vs oil quenched 26c3. Pretty happy with how the deep etch worked out with it though - first time doing that and liking the overall result. The wrought has some really nice grain. Currently off a 240 stone

Hey everyone!
Been delving into rust bluing some of my blades, and through a few different trial/error recipes have been able to achieve the color I’m going for (pic 1), but cannot escape the dreaded pitting (pic 2). Current recipe is 8:1 (peroxide:vinegar) with a pinch of salt, doing 8-10 layers with gentle carding between.
Any advice? I’ve been told to keep raising the ratio and lowering salt, or to use stronger peroxide and eliminate the vinegar entirely, but interested if anyone else has success with other methods.

Recently completed my first knife during a two-day blacksmithing course. There's obviously a lot I still want to learn, but I'm happy to have finished my first piece and wanted to share it.
I'd appreciate constructive feedback from more experienced smiths. What areas of the design, finish or craftsmanship should I focus on improving for my next project?
Thanks!

Hello, I’m new to this but I was wondering if anyone could help me out.
I’m a machinist, when I first started my dad bought me a set a bahco files and later a set of grobert to help me out. A few are wearing out after 10-15 years of use.
I was wondering if they are good files for blade craft. Then if anyone was willing to take up the task of making one.
I was hoping for something like a buck 1919. It’s one of the first knives that my dad got me into collecting knives.
That or a Scandinavian knife style knife.
Don’t want to just ask around on Facebook.

you can buy them, but if you need a tool, make a tool. I made a cheap bladesmith carbide straightening hammer.

I refinish & customize metal parts for knives. Scales and blades, different textures and finishes. Patinas and anodizing. My fingers hurt…
My question is what would be the most bang for my buck to eliminate hand, sanding, and the intense time and effort that that entails?
I’m interested in a bench-top sand/polish setup with an adjustable angle guide (to sharpen). Any recommendations for a good intermediate setup? Or advanced if it is small and not CRAZY expensive.
