I've just finished the Platinum for Metro: Last Light Redux, and I have some thoughts I'd like to share with you guys.
The first and most obvious thing I want to talk about is the length of the game. It took me around 33 hours to get the Platinum, which is technically less time than it took me to complete Metro 2033 Redux. However, part of that was because I was already prepared for certain conditional trophies and knew what to expect from the DLC missions.
But if we're talking about the main storyline, this game felt considerably longer than the first one. Do note that when I say it's long compared to the first game, I don't necessarily mean that as a criticism. Personally, I think that's great, especially for an FPS title.
After playing the first game and jumping straight into this one, I genuinely felt like the developers took everything from the previous game and dialled it up a notch. The above-ground missions and levels felt really nice and immersive, especially in terms of the story and atmosphere. The previous game had above-ground sections too, but not to this extent, and I really enjoyed the change in scenery.
Coming to the mutants, though, I'm a little disappointed with the developers for not introducing more new species of mutants or monsters. There were one or two different types that you encounter, but they felt more like boss fights in confined arenas. You fight them, the encounter ends, and that's pretty much it. I would have loved to see more of these creatures throughout the game instead of having them appear only for specific encounters.
I originally fell in love with the first game because of its pacing and storyline. Thankfully, the story and pacing in Last Light felt good overall and lived up to my expectations. However, there were one or two sections where I felt like the mission existed primarily to extend the game's runtime. These moments didn't ruin the experience for me, but they were noticeable.
Overall, getting the Platinum for Metro: Last Light Redux was a really enjoyable experience and a breath of fresh air. I'd comfortably call this game a worthy successor to Metro 2033 Redux. It builds upon what made the first game enjoyable while giving you more time to explore its world and story.
My personal rating for this game would be a solid 8/10.
I know I gave Metro 2033 Redux the same score, and honestly, I was initially leaning towards an 8.5 or even a 9 for Last Light. However, during my final Platinum playthrough, I ran into quite a few bugs and glitches that forced me to restart several missions from the very beginning. That definitely affected my overall experience and stopped me from giving it a higher score.
Now, it's time to move on to Metro Exodus! Hopefully, I can finish at least one playthrough before GTA VI launches.
