I have been diving back into the PS3 library lately and realized how incredible of a legacy machine it is. Metal Gear comes to mind. Thanks to remasters, digital classics, and physical releases, you can play almost the entire mainline franchise on a single console.
What other game series do you know of that can be fully completed from start to finish on the PS3?
Whether it is through native releases, PS1 and PS2 Classics, HD collections, or backward compatibility, what full series can you experience without leaving the console?

I decided it was time to buy a PS3. When I was a youngster I always wanted one. My family and I were kinda poor and games weren't a luxury in my house. Toys from Dollar Tree were. As time went on, I grew older (now 30) and I want to experience what I missed out on.
So, I bought a PS3 from a local video game store, along with some games I read were popular titles.
I also always wanted to play Fallout New Vegas. I remember seeing commercials as a kid thinking the game looked so sweet. I now own it as a grown man, and I am just as excited to bust it open on my new (used) console.
I also bought these 3 too:
Assassin's Creed Revelations
NFS Shift
Batman Arkham City
As someone new to gaming I'm not concerned about how bad the graphics will look compared to newer consoles. I just want to enjoy it for the kid in me that never did. But, I need some solid recommendations on some good games. Doesn't matter the genre or the polish of the game. I like a good storyline though. Any suggestions?

For me, the first question is a tie between Lego Batman and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.
The second question is Call of Duty 3.

For those who can’t see the images for whatever reason: Left = Valkyria Chronicles; Right = Uncharted 3 Drake’s Deception.
I liked Uncharted 3 but didn’t like it as much as 2 or 4. I just bought Valkyria Chronicles and plan on playing it soon as my first foray into the series.

It's been really annoying me lately. I have to turn my volume really high so that I stop hearing this horrible rhythmic sound I don't know if this is normal or not. What can I do to try And dampen the noise?
Thanks in advance 🙏🏼

My ps3 was bought untested. The seller told me it was a power issue but it was only 100cny so i bought it anyways but it did power on. Ever since I got it i've never been able to get a 1080p picture out of it highest was always 1080i. Now I switched displays and anything above 480p refuses to work. I am using a Sony Bravia from around 2017-2018 and the cable works with other devices. When I try 720p or 1080i it displays a weird static-like screen with scrambled pixels of random colors. The PS3 is a Slim CECH-2512B on version 4.55 with Rogero CFW installed if that helps

Just wanted to share my collection. Everything here is CIB. I guess you could say I’ve been collecting for approximately 18 years, since I got my PS3 in 2008.
You may be asking; where are major heavy hitters like God of War 3, The Last of Us, Uncharted trilogy, Ni No Kuni, Red Dead Redemption, thatgamecompany trilogy, etc.? Well, I have them physically on PS4 and PS5. My collecting philosophy is, when a game is ported and retains the artistic vision and gameplay of its original version, just own that version. I think this is even more applicable to 7th gen games that exist in that awkward era between CRT’s and LCD screens.
You may also be asking, where is XYZ game? And the answer is that I probably collected it on Xbox 360. This is because most third-party games not only performed and looked better on original hardware in comparison to PS3, but are also backwards compatible on Series X. So games like GTA IV Complete Edition, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Asura‘s wrath (you get the idea, the list is endless) not only play way better on original hardware, at 1/3rd the price of the PS3 version, but I also just pop them in my Series X and get an instant remaster.
So, this represents my very intentional and curated PS3 collection. I still have about 55 games I am looking for. Some I will probably never own, like the English edition’s of Aquanaut’s Holiday or The Last Guy ($500 and $300 respectively). Some are common, like the FF13 trilogy or Gran Turismo 6. But I’m very happy with what I have so far.
Now, hopefully Reddit will let me reminisce a little, since the PS3 is my favorite console. I still remember buying my backwards compatible OG model from an employee at my local GameStop. I was (and continue to be) a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, and he sold me his PS3 with this special edition copy of MGS4 soon after it came out. I remember being absolutely blown away by the graphics and the Octo-camo. I remember picking up Uncharted 2 and being absolutely floored, and spending what felt like hundreds of hours in the multiplayer. Outside of Shadow of the Colossus (my favorite game ever and technically a PS2 game) it’s still my favorite PS3 game and one of my favorite games of all time. I highly recommend the incredible Bluepoint remaster on PS4. But who am I kidding, everyone on this board has already played it. I remember pre-ordering the collector’s edition of Demon’s Souls because of the gametrailers review, then finding it a few days before street date at Fry’s Electronics and just picking it up there. I canceled my GameStop order in person, I wish I could go back in time and let myself know to just pick it up, nothing wrong with having two of those! I remember getting stuck at the flying manta rays and being so pissed off l quit the game forever. I couldn’t have been older than 15. I remember getting lost in the beauty of Red Dead Redemption, and trying to figure out how to play fighting games via MVC2 (still the best port), MVC3, and Street Fighter IV. I remember falling out of love with games for some time because I was so pissed that SF4 kept releasing new editions and by the time they announced Arcade Edition I no longer wanted to be abused by this business plan (little did I know Street Fighter doing this was nothing compared to the future of 20 dollar skins). I remember all the good times and the YLOD times. I remember how much joy it brought me.
Now that Playstation is doing away with discs and every decision signals that people like us on this board are no longer its focus, my collection feels even more special. Thanks for reading and feel free to share your PS3 memories, I would love to read them.
I bought a ps3 controller and it came with this odd smell thats giving me itchiness and pain. Idk what to do is this unsalvagable or can I somehow remove this smell and allergy stuff. Using the controller actively triggers this stuff

Wow really impressed with the speeds I’m seeing after connecting with Ethernet I don’t know how I was winning here and there on 8.5 mbps. Would upgrading to a faster service help it even more playing fps or is it capped out allready with this speed because it’s an old console. I heard the ps3 can do 150 Mbps. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m playing some of my ps3 games and I decided to check out the info on some of the games. Just a random thought to do so with ps3 store going offline soon. But I’ve got a lot of games that are either expired, or are going to be expiring soon. I haven’t got any idea why. I’m only uploading pics of just a few games, but I’ve got a lot of games like this. Will simply just redownloading them allow them to work again? It appears to be games that have their licenses “start” on 11/20/2026. Some expired December or 2025 and some are expiring December of this year. Anyone else notice this with their games? If so, curious on what you guys did for solutions. Thank you for any help/feedback that you all give.

Already ran file system and database through safe mode. And re-downloaded and installed the game. Console is activated on my psn account, digital and physical, all games are working just fine. No hacks or homebrews. I am using a 250GB Samsung SSD though. First time in all my PS3 years I run into something like this. No idea if the activation servers are down or something. I'll probably refund it if I can't get it working.
EDIT: I managed to get it FIXED due to a kind soul in the comments. Here's the link he gave me: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/s/GLx74ZNHsI
