tl;dr the fine print of Rule 3 has been adjusted to explicitly forbid modern indie games unless playable on original hardware (homebrew)
It's my own fault that this change has to be made, I allowed a few "psx-inspired" indie game posts to remain up despite breaking the rules because of the large amount of upvotes they received.
I'd post and sticky comments like "It's off topic but y'all like it so I'll leave it up". My approach to moderation has always been to let the community make content decisions when appropriate. Unfortunately adjustments need to be made to protect the subject matter of this community.
Due to the massive influx of shovelware indie games that are "psx inspired" getting posted here, I'm sorry to say that Rule 3 will have to be more strictly enforced.
From this point forward, for indie games to be posted here they will have to be playable on PSX hardware or an emulator. Games that run on real hardware fall firmly into the category of homebrew, which is perfectly appropriate to discuss here. Games that run in PSX emulators but not real hardware are also allowed. "Retro Inspired" or "PSX Inspired" games that do not fulfill either of those 2 requirements will be removed and the poster will get a 24 hour ban.
The ban is meant to be informative to the poster, not punitive. However repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
Here is a friendly flowchart to help you decide whether or not it's appropriate to post your indie game in this community:

Thank you for reading and thank you for posting. Best of luck in all your indie dev adventures.

I've thrown together a CUE/BIN that can be emulated or burned to CD and played on actual hardware. Each episode uses the PlayStation's native video encoder - often used for game cutscenes and intros. I recommend playing this on a CRT to obfuscate some of the compression artifacts.
It comes with 7 early SpongeBob Squarepants episodes (Help Wanted, Reef Blower, Pizza Delivery, Ripped Pants, Frankendoodle, Bubble Buddy and Band Geeks) - as well as some misc. early ads and an excerpt from the SNL bit featuring Tom Kenny.
Extra bonus - 'Help Wanted' retains the original show introduction when the pilot first aired in 1999.
Controls:
LR1 skips between episodes, LR2 rewinds/fast-forwards, Triangle/Start goes to the main menu, X/Select plays, pauses and completes menu selections.
Nothing revolutionary, but I've always wanted to get custom FMV on the PlayStation without the use of a VCD add-on:

Hi all, looking to purchase a PS2 controller and don't have much experience with them. Is this fake or genuine? It's listed as "official" on eBay but have also seen some similar ones listed as "unofficial" so had me wondering. Thank you.

I got into ps1 again lately, looking for games to play with a friend - I have Army Men Air Attack and plan to pick up Future Cop LAPD.
I used to play twisted metal but not feeling that currently, anything else you'd recommend?

were there but I picked this one out

What is the most underrated PS1 Game? To me, Chaos Break is pretty underrated.

This one never got an English release, so I’ve been patching it myself, and there’s now a beta with the dialogue, menus and interface in English. Patch, screenshots and how to apply it are here: https://github.com/dienp/spectral-force-3-eng-patch. I’ve beaten it with Shinba, the only lord you can pick at the start, but the first draft was machine translated and other routes are untested, so if something looks off, grab a screenshot and let me know.

Hey, does anyone here have this Bitfunx PS1/PS2-HDMI converter?
https://a.aliexpress.com/\\_EIFdqo6. I don't need upscaling, but I want to be sure if this adapter really outputs 1080p even from 240 PS1 resolution? I want to run PS1 on newer TV/computer monitor, which have only higher resolutions and HDMI only (with full HD support).
Thanks for probable recommendations of Levelhike, RS2x, component, etc. I just want to know better this adapter.

A Raspberry Pi Pico 2 plugged into controller port 2 reads video from an SD card and streams it to a homebrew player on a modded PSone. The port only moves about 23 KB/s, so the video is heavily compressed (around 350 bytes per black & white frame, 15 fps).

Ciao a tutti,

Recently I grabbed myself a Retrotink 4K for my PS2 and I've been have a blast replaying my childhood classics such as Ratchet & Clank with a CRT filter! Now I live in a PAL region (Australia) so going over the options for playing PS1 games on a modern tv, two options have caught my eye... a modded PS1 with xStation + DFO and a SuperStation FPGA console.
I'm more leaning towards the xStation + DFO console but it costs $650aud preinstalled, now I could of course buy a scph 5502 for $129aud and xStation for $172aud, extra $241 to get it installed rounding up the total to $542aud but that's still a lot of money for ps1.
The SuperStation on the other hand is much cheaper with the baseline model starting at $359aud but I'm curious about the performance and accuracy of playing PS1 games on the system. Is there any input lag compared to the original hardware? Does the mister FPGA have built in CRT filter? (it's okay if there's none since I have a retrotink)
Hoping to hear your thoughts!

Was digging around youtube, and videos on this puppy popped up. I used to play this and Twisted Metal 2 as a kid. It is harder than I remember!!!! Barely got out of the 1st level and got waxed on the second one! Woof!
