AI Assisted Good News for PSP Developers: PS2 Games Are Coming to PSP!

I've successfully developed PS2C, a program that recompiles the PS2 version of GTA: San Andreas to run on the PSP!

Project: https://github.com/SandstoneDev/PS2RC

This is a major milestone for PSP homebrew development and demonstrates that PS2 games can be brought to the PSP through recompilation.

Currently, PS2C is specifically designed for GTA: San Andreas. However, I've also released two AI skills that can help developers create their own game-specific recompilers and explore porting other PS2 games to the PSP.

Interestingly, people have already started working on a Silent Hill 2 port for PSP using this approach!

1. Universal PS2 Recompiler - AI Skill

https://github.com/SandstoneDev/universal-ps2-recompiler

This is not a recompiler tool itself. It's an AI skill containing the knowledge needed to develop your own PS2 game recompiler based on PS2RC.

You can use it with AI coding agents such as Claude Code to help create game-specific recompilers, using PS2RC as the foundation.

You're welcome to fork the PS2RC repository for your own projects. Please credit me as the original author of PS2RC and preserve the appropriate original attribution.

2. PSP Developer - AI Skill

https://github.com/SandstoneDev/psp-developer

This skill is based on my experience developing PSP ports. It provides AI agents with technical knowledge about PSP development, helping with game porting, existing port projects, and homebrew application development.

How do these skills work together?

The idea is simple: use the Universal PS2 Recompiler skill to help develop a recompiler for a specific PS2 game, and the PSP Developer skill to assist with PSP-specific development challenges.

Together, they provide AI agents with the knowledge needed to help developers explore projects that would otherwise require extensive research into PS2 architecture, recompilation, and PSP hardware.

The goal is to make PSP development more accessible and encourage the community to experiment with new ports and homebrew projects.

Both skills are available on GitHub. Feel free to try them, fork the projects where appropriate, and share your progress with the community!

I'd love to see what other PS2 games the community can get running on the PSP.

Note: These AI skills provide technical knowledge and development assistance. They do not automatically produce a finished port, and each game will require its own implementation and testing.

AI Assisted Tape Visualizer for the built-in PSP Music Player!

Been seeing the new music players, and really wanted the cool look of old cassette tapes without having to install and use a different music player on the PSP.

So, I made a tape visualizer!

This project is a visualizer for the PSP built-in music player. It replaces the last visualizer in the list with a classic tape that scrolls from one side to the other for 15 minutes and switches sides.

Supports pause, resume, fast-forward, and rewind.

It's an ARK plugin for your PSP. Super simple, install the plugin, restart the PSP, and the last visualizer will be a cute tape icon!

Now on GitHub:
https://github.com/beckerd/psp_viz_tape

Built using GPT-6 Astra, if you do not want AI written code on your PSP, this project isn't for you

  • Compatibility: PSP 1000, 2000, 3000, GO, Street
  • ARK-4 - tested & compatible
  • ARK-5 - untested, but should be compatible (Please let me know if it works for you!)
  • PRO-C - currently in the works, thank you u/No-Kaleidoscope8078

Homebrew Wood Woodpecker Escape From Buzz Buzzed Park for PSP

• Upvotes

Quando era moleque eu jogava bastante aquele jogo do Pica-Pau com a minha mãe no PS2. Infelizmente aquele jogo saiu pra pouquíssimas plataformas e eu queria poder matar a saudade e sentir aquela nostalgia no portátil da Sony.

AI Assisted I published my port of my first game on PSP!

• Upvotes

Here is the PSP port of my 9-year-old PC game! The port features a texture system and a small modding system! The game is in alpha and graphics-wise it's not the best, but I'll be updating the textures little by little! If you find any bugs or errors, have an idea for the game, or want to ask a question, feel free to report or ask anything in the issues section! I hope you support me in this project since it's something I revived after 9 years, and I'd be really excited to see it become something and see what users do with my game ^^

Regarding AI, this port was made with AI. I made the original PC game back in 2017, including the sprites, sound, levels, etc. I'll do everything I can to make sure the graphics and sound are made by real people and not AI. In the README, you can find a breakdown of what was done with AI and what I made back then.

PSP Street battery leak - Is it salvageable or completely dead?

I dug out my PSP Street from 2011- 2012 because I still have a bunch of UMD discs I'd love to play. Unfortunately, the battery leaked during its years in storage.(Had not opened it for like 4-5 years)

even the memory card is stuck inside ..like I can't even eject it out lol.

I removed the battery hoping for a quick fix, but after seeing the rusted insides, I'm skeptical. Giving it one last look before I call it quits-what do you guys think? No false hopes :')

QUESTION PSP Street (E1000) bricked/shutdown loop after accidental mod app launch and forced power off

Hi everyone,

I really need some help. I have a modded PSP Street (E1000) that I bought pre-modded.
Today, I accidentally opened the mod installer/application on the console. It opened a log screen, and the last line said /reboot. Not knowing what to do and panicking, I force-powered it off before anything else could happen.

Now, whenever I try to turn it on, the power LED turns on, the screen lights up slightly (backlight turns on) for a few seconds, and then the console completely shuts down again.

Here is what I've already tried:
Trying to boot without the Memory Stick inserted (still does the same boot loop/shutdown).
Trying to hard reset the console, but didn’t work neither.

Since the PSP Street (E1000) has a different motherboard (Street model) and doesn't have Wi-Fi, is this a permanent brick? Is there any way to recover it, or is there a specific combo/procedure I should try?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

QUESTION Which psp shall I get? (realted image)

Post image
88 Upvotes

Hello,

So basically, i had a black psp 2000 that i've put pro or infinity or lme cfw on it??? but well, it got bricked (i think idk wasn't clear + doesn't matter) so i got rid of it and sold it to a friend. that was two years ago, now, I regret it.

So, I just wanna know which psp model would be best for me to get? I have basically the modding knowledge of a 3ds homebrew users (consider I have no knowledge to modding consoles ig), so I think I would like to mod it maybe?? I

want it mainly to listen to music, watch movies, play some games? (not like super mega-intense games, more casual titles, maybe stuff like project diva since it's apparently on the psp? but like 2d platformers and puzzles games are kewl) and take pics like in that image (I'll get a silver psp to match the silver camera, and I think the black camera looks uglier + apparently it's MUCH worse)

sooo, do i get like, a pvp 1000,2000,3000 or street (for some reason)

Srry if it sounds stupid, i've forgotten all the knowledge I had on it ngl don't slime me 🙏

Troubleshooting Is the mobo screwed?

I found my PSP after years of not using it and wanted to breathe some new life into it.

When I boot up a game, it does this constantly. I thought it was regular stick drift so I removed the analog stick while I wait for a new one to come in. My new battery came in early, so I put it in to test it out and noticed it was still doing it!

This makes me think even the new stick won’t fix it :(.
My best guess is that it’s definitely something contact/mobo related but I’m not sure how to dig into that kind of fix. I’m having trouble finding a guide for that specifically.

Anyone have suggestions?

Troubleshooting PSP VSH BGM MOD & Custom Boot issues: Gameboot and speaker popping when opening VSH menu

I'm running into a couple of annoying issues with audio plugin vshbgm mod i tried original version too but same issues. on my PSP 3004 running ARK5

1. Audio overlap on launch (as seen in video): When launching a game, the gameboot intro plays fine, but right after its audio finishes, a 1 second snippet of the background music plugin plays before the game starts

  1. Speaker popping: Every time I open the VSH menu using the Select button, the speakers make a loud crackling

Anyone know how to fix it ? I thought maybe custom gameboot with original psp intro but longer and add quite noise at the end. Idk how to fix speaker popping.

Game Discussion SH2:portable

It’s actually very difficult to create a 1:1 port of the game. Right now, there’s a major issue with the game’s cameras and how they behave. There’s also a problem with textures—sometimes they’re unloaded from memory prematurely and disappear from the screen. I don’t know if we’ll be able to fix this, but it’s necessary to conserve VRAM, which is already in very short supply.

Homebrew I made a port of my 2017 game to PSP ^^

Hello! I'm making a native port of a game I made 9 years ago when I was 15, and I wanted to ask if you'd like me to share the PSP file since I need feedback to improve pretty much everything ^^" I'm making the port with Claude, basically vibe coding, but the graphics and I'd try to have the sound made by humans and not AI.

(The video is of the version I made in 2017 for PC, the PSP port is practically the same, I just added a few things with AI, for example a Minecraft-like splash screen, a resource pack system, a language system, and a settings button in the pause menu; the rest is identical to the original)

(By the way, I made the textures myself xD I don't know how to make textures in 2D, let alone 3D, I'm really bad at these things ^^")

SHOW-OFF My first experience with the PSP-3000 and the PSP-450X camera. And Photo!)

Let's start by saying that I've dreamed of this portable console since childhood, and now my dream has come true. For some reason, I hadn't seen any reviews of photos and videos from this camera, so I decided to take them myself.

In my review, I'll show photos from my camera, some video tests, and share my impressions.

Well, I don't think there's much point in talking about the PSP3000, but the camera is more interesting. Let's start by saying that this is truly a camera that captures the spirit of the 2000s. I really like the lens flare, the poor quality, and the vibe. Below, I've attached some photos I took with it in Moscow. You can check them out, by the way.

The whole kit cost me $80, and for my geeky nature, it's a real treat. It's fascinating to understand the firmware, how everything was set up back in the day, and so on. I am also interested in games and I am currently playing them.
