QUESTION moderators need to do something about the ai here

I’ve seen many people who are unhappy about all these "ports",things that would have been impossible before AI,with some even admitting that the results are too poor to be worth the effort. Perhaps we need to revisit the rules; I’m watching my favorite community fall apart, with people leaving the subreddit. Maybe we should ban AI, handle it differently, or impose some limits... I don’t know, but something has to be done.

QUESTION Wondering how many people are actually playing these AI ports?

Will admit I'm a pretty big AI skeptic, but trying my best not to be immediately dismissive and negative.

One thing I've noticed with social media posts about ports/recomps/etc is there are a lot of people gassing up how cool the tech is from short videos and pics, but I don't see many people who actually are playing these things. In fact, a lot of times I'll see people having issues running games and their troubleshooting questions just go ignored.

Wondering what ports out there are actually complete and playable and well adapted to PSP's limited controls? I mostly just play official PSP games (and the occasional emulated game). I'd be curious to step out of my comfort zone. But there are so many projects popping up, it seems impossible to suss out how much of this stuff is legit.

I just imagining going through the effort of installing one of these ports, getting invested in a game, and discovering a bunch of bugs/glitches/performance issues in a later part of the game that makes it unplayable and that just makes me never want to go through the effort. Or even if it does run perfectly, if the controls are miserable or not well thought out, it just does not seem worth the effort when I have a bajillion other games I could be playing. What are the games people have put a significant amount of time into (or even better, actually completed) that are worth checking out?

QUESTION AI generated ports on PSP

Is anyone aware on how people have been creating these recent decompilations of games onto the PSP. I have been browsing social media and I noticed an influx of decompliations using A.I and I was quite cruious how they did it.

Just picked this up from eBay to get back into PSP (had one in 2005ish)

I noticed this already has a software mod.

I'd like Ark-4, how would I go about getting in on this system?

Thanks :)

Troubleshooting PSP 2000 green light flashes then dies... UNLESS it sits for a long time. Capacitor issue?

Hey everyone, hoping to get a second opinion on a weird power issue with my unmodified PSP 2000.

  • Brand new battery installed
  • Brand new charger
  • No external media/UMD inserted

When I push the power switch, the green light flashes for a second and then immediately turns off. The screen stays totally black and there is no startup sound.

Here is the catch—if I leave the console completely unpowered and untouched for days (or years), it will actually turn green and boot up to the menu! But the moment it tries to draw sustained power, it dies again and goes back to the immediate shutdown loop.

Because it occasionally boots after resting, I'm assuming this completely rules out a blown main/backlight fuse (since a blown fuse can't heal itself). My current working theory is that it's a degraded surface-mount motherboard capacitor on the power delivery rail or a failing Power Management IC (PMIC). The capacitors might settle enough after a long rest to pass the initial power check, but fail under load.

  1. Does the failing capacitor theory sound correct for this specific "works after resting" symptom?
  2. Has anyone dealt with this exact issue before, and which specific components/caps usually fail on the 2000 board?
  3. I'll be taking this to a repair shop for microsoldering since I don't have the equipment. What is a fair price to expect for SMD capacitor replacement?

QUESTION Just got my very first PSP It has a 2GB memory card and it's already modded. What games should I play? (Short & casual friendly?)

Hey everybody

I finally got my hands on a PSP for the very first time. It's already modded, and it came with a 2GB memory card.

I didn't have a PSP when I was a kid, so this is a completely new world for me. My entire experience so far is basically just LocoRoco and Tetris!

Since I'm totally new to the library, I wanted to ask for some recommendations. I'm looking for games that aren't too long or heavy, something simple that I can just pick up and play for 15-20 minutes at a time without needing to invest hours.

What are some absolute must-plays for a beginner like me, especially considering my tiny 2GB limit? Thanks in advance

AI Assisted I published my port of my first game on PSP!

Here is the PSP port of my 9-year-old PC game! The port features a texture system and a small modding system! The game is in alpha and graphics-wise it's not the best, but I'll be updating the textures little by little! If you find any bugs or errors, have an idea for the game, or want to ask a question, feel free to report or ask anything in the issues section! I hope you support me in this project since it's something I revived after 9 years, and I'd be really excited to see it become something and see what users do with my game ^^

Regarding AI, this port was made with AI. I made the original PC game back in 2017, including the sprites, sound, levels, etc. I'll do everything I can to make sure the graphics and sound are made by real people and not AI. In the README, you can find a breakdown of what was done with AI and what I made back then.

QUESTION Is this an IPS screen?

Hi, I bought this psp 1000 and I saw online that I can change the screen on the 1000. However after I saw videos, I saw that people’s psp 1000 looked way dimmer than mine. So it got me curious if my psp has an IPS mod already. Please and thanks!

Theme Been wanting custom PSP wallpapers that actually fit the screen, so I built a free generator for them <3

Hey r/psp! Thanks to the mods for letting me share this.

I love tinkering with my PSP and always thought it was weird that a console with such an active niche didn't have a dedicated site/space for custom wallpapers, so I built one: https://vectordeck.app

What it does

- Generates wallpapers at the PSP’s native 480×272, so there’s no cropping or stretching.
- A bunch of styles types (gradients, mandalas, circuit boards, flow fields, hex grids and more), plus color palettes and custom color pickers (see vid for examples).
- Hit Randomize for a new layout or Surprise Me for a completely random design!
- Download as PNG (works on the PSP), WebP or SVG.
- Save favorites in your browser and export them as JSON or a ZIP.
- Also supports Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Miyoo Mini and Logitech G Cloud resolutions, in case you have other handhelds lying around.
- Made with Angular, ionic & pure typescript.

What it doesnt

- No AI in the wallpaper generation! Every wallpaper is drawn with plain procedural math right in your browser and nothing is trained on or scraped from anyone’s art.
- No servers, no APIs, all on you're browser! The site doesn't save images or anything you do so all of your images and favorites get wiped if you clear your browser cache.
- No account, no signup, and no paywall. Free, free, free!
- No credit needed! Anything and everything you make is yours to use however you like, no credit needed (but always appreciated of course). Youre the artist!

I’d love feedback, especially ideas for new styles or palettes. If you make something cool, post a pic of it on your PSP! Enjoy! <3

I've hacked this twice. First with Pro-C then recently with Ark-5. It's travelled to many countries with me and I've ALWAYS put it in a case when its not in use which I'd say has contributed to its long life. Amazing lil' machine!

AI Assisted Silent Hill 2 PSP Port - Progress Update #2

What's working so far:

Original PS2 environments and James' animations

Opening FMV and in-engine cutscenes with voice acting

Movement, collisions and automatic area transitions

Main menu, inventory and the original map

Item interactions and original text

messages

Improved camera system using reverse-engineered PS2 camera data

I'm currently fixing camera issues, collision bugs and missing geometry. It's still far from a complete port, but the first playable section is coming together.

Girlfriend purchased me a PSP for my birthday. I never owned this console growing up as I always had a DS. I’ve looked into modding it and should have everything to do it tonight.

Any recommendations on games? I’ve never play any PS exclusive franchises as I’ve always had an Xbox. Any recommendations as far as emulation goes? Thanks any advice is welcome and appreciated!

QUESTION Please help, tried everything but i'm not capable of switching to Ark-4 from Prome-2...

Hi, I’m quite new to all of this and absolutely clueless. I got my PSP-1004 as a gift, and it was running on 5.50 Prome-2. Last week, I found it after not using it for quite some time, and I decided to give it a new life by switching to ARK-4. The problem is that I’ve tried everything I could find online, but I haven’t had any success. I used Chronoswitch and tried updating to 6.61, but I keep getting the 9.90 system software message.

My PSP also has some issues recognizing when it’s connected to a PC via USB, so I have to use an adapter to transfer new folders, EBOOTs, and other files to it.

Is there anyone who could guide me through the process of switching to ARK-4 from Prome-2? I’d really appreciate any help

QUESTION Classy gentleman vs sentimental retro vibe

Post image
32 Upvotes

Well... Recently I started using my psp again. I reorganized folders, updated emulators, games, plugins, theme [...] and I have reached a point where I am satisfied.

Now the next step comes - the outside. And here I've got 2 main ideas.

  1. Easy mode.

Replace plastic screen with glass and keep original shell (which is still in pretty good condition) and minimalistic vibe.

  1. Hard mode.

Do you remember GBC or GBA transparent shells? HUH... Ye, it looks so hot. So thats the plan - to put something like that (transparent blue) on my psp.

However it would require +-2 weeks of waiting for a shipment from China, then disassembling the entire console, risking if some part of shell won't fit [...] But the final effect is definitely worth the effort.

And there's ofc 3rd option xD

"Dude, f** it. Go play Golden Sun and stop wasting your time lol"

Troubleshooting Hello! Recently pick up this awesome PSP 2000. Can someone help me troubleshoot stick drift?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I don't have a video of it, but basically, when I'm playing a game like Persona 3 Portable, the cursor sometimes moves to the left. It only happens occasionally, and I've noticed it mostly when I first boot up my PSP. After moving the analog stick around for about five seconds, the issue seems to disappear, and I can play for the rest of the session without any stick drift.

I've read several posts about troubleshooting this issue, and many people recommend testing the stick in the web browser. However, when I first boot up my PSP, the analog stick seems to work perfectly fine in the browser. The strange thing is that the cursor sometimes moves to the left only after I launch a game.

I've been testing this for a week or two now, and I haven't noticed any stick drift in the web browser, only occasionally in games.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!🙏
