A Morning Clay Shooting in the UK š¬š§ (Now With 100% Less AI Thumbnail)
youtu.beAfternoon all!
Thought Iād share my latest vlog from a morning out clay pigeon shooting here in the UK. š¬š§šÆ
Iāve recently started a YouTube channel called Jack IRL, covering countryside life, shooting and whatever else I get up to.
Youāll all be relieved to know that the offending thumbnail has now been removed, and normal service has resumed. A national crisis narrowly avoided.
Anyway, back to the actual video! Just a fairly relaxed morning breaking clays, enjoying the countryside and having a laugh.
Iām still finding my feet with the whole YouTube thing, so any feedback is welcome ā preferably about the video this time, but I know thatās asking a lot of Reddit. š

Cheers all! š

International Student - Shotgun License
Can I legally obtain a shotgun license in the southwest if I am on a student visa? I am able to install a gun cabinet in my apartment. I practice clay shooting intensively back home and would love to be able to practice in the UK as well.

Dr Twist Rate, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Grain
gallerySo there I was, minding my own business...
I bought a Franchi Horizon Elite Varmint in .223rem second hand. It was barely fired but had been in a safe slightly unclean for a year and did have some rot setting in on the lands.
Didn't have much time, so I bought some cheap ammunition and got out to the range. Wanting to try something super cheap before going in on more expensive rounds I bought 50 GGG 55gr. This is a 1/9" twist.
I spent an hour wondering if it was me, the gun, the ammunition, or all 3. Very disappointing groups and I gave up after throwing 40 rounds downrange.
So I went home, scrubbed the life out of it, bought some more 55gr, some 62gr, and some 68gr.
This is the first time I've really seen the effect of grain weight on group sizes.
I tried some different 55gr to see if the quality would affect the group size as well as the weight and it did make a huge difference. 2.2MOA down to around 1MOA.
68gr got down to 0.8MOA and it could have been better if not for the shooter.
I had an option of buying an open box of Lapua 69gr but I'd already spent some money so decided against it. Now I wish I'd tried it.
Anyway, for anyone else buying a new-to-them rifle make sure you try out a bunch of ammunition in different weights and quality!

Red Dot and Magnifier not aligning?
Am I stupid?
Red dot: Vector Optics Maverick-II 1x25 Gen II (SCRD-72)
Magnifier: Vector Optics Maverick-III 3x22 (SCMF-31)
Misaligned by like 5mm? supposed to be compatible with each other, they are both on the same rail.
Ignore bad paint job on the ruger, half way done removing the last owners rattle can job

So I wrote a new appā¦.
A few months ago I was looking for āsummat to doā and I realised I had about 10 different shooting apps on my phone. Iām a software developer but had never developed an Android / iOS app before.
So what started as a bit of a fun project actually turned into something pretty ok (according to the feedback) . Itās been beta tested by lots of different users from airgunners to fullbore shooters (mostly from the UK shooting forums)
I listened to feedback on how everything is subscription based or full of ads, and so itās available on the web for free (slightly limited) and a one off payment for the mobile apps.
The only subscription : āgated featureā is a cloud sync process, because that costs a bunch of money to run.
anyway please feel free to check it out, my only ask is if you down vote me, please leave some feedback as to why!

Moved from Bedfordshire to Northamptonshire with a live application.
Hi all, looking for some advice and im not quite sure what to do. I have moved from bedfordshire to northamptonshire but have a live application with beds police for my FAC and SGC combined since Feb 2025. i have had no response - im aware of the long wait time.
I have contacted both Northamptonshire and bedfordshire about the situaiton im in but still no response. Am i better off just biting the bullet (pardon the pun) and starting my application again with Northants, joining the back of the line again - and then getting a charge back from my bank for the Bedfordshire application?

Moved to America from UK and they just changed the rules here in a massive way.
Thought some of you might like to hear about the changes made yesterday. You can now buy suppressors and SBRās without filing an NFA form. It depends on state, but I live in one of the gun friendly ones thankfully. I just picked up 3 suppressors in about 15 mins on a regular 4473 background check š Throwing away all my braces and putting stocks on everything. Historic sat for America for sure.

Getting into target shooting
Hi, I have been looking at getting into target shooting. I already have an FAC and a rifle, but I got it for historical re-enactment so I can't buy live ammo. I have looked at the NRA membership, but I am wondering if there are other options to consider. I live around Manchester, and I have been trying to find local fullbore ranges that are taking new members. I have come across Phoenix Range near Barnsley and I am considering that option, even though it is a longer drive.
Any other ideas or information would be appreciated
Thanks

Is this normal wear/machining on a chamber of new ATA SP Black
galleryHey everyone,
I recently picked up a new ATA SP Black 12-gauge over-and-under. So far, Iāve only shot about 100 rounds through it.
While cleaning it today, I noticed something on the bottom barrel. The outer corner/edge of the bottom chamber looks distinctly rounded up and slightly beveledāalmost like someone took fine sandpaper or a grinding tool to that specific corner. The top barrel chamber doesn't seem to have this same aggressive rounding.
Is this a normal factory clearance cut/relief bevel for the action break and shell ejection on these guns, or should I be worried about a manufacturing defect?
My specific model didn't come with pre-installed sling swivels on either the barrels or the stock. For those who own an ATA SP without them, what aftermarket clamp-on barrel mounts or hardware solutions have worked best for you without damaging the finish or splitting the wood?

Gun Club Near Marlborough.
Hi all,
Iām moving from London to Wiltshire and would like to get back into shooting properly. Iām particularly interested in practical shotgun shooting, as well as getting back into rifle shooting.
I grew up around farms in Zambia, SA and Swaziland and have some experience with both rifles and shotguns, but it was always informal shooting with family rather than at a formal range. Since moving to London about 10 years ago, Iāve only shot occasionally, so Iām pretty rusty and have never been a member of a shooting club as never needed to in Africa.
Can anyone suggest any clubs in this part of the world that might be what I'm looking for?
I have tried relentlessly online but as most are volunteers have had very few replies to enquiries and some with major waiting lists.
Iām keen to do everything properly and build up my skills again in a formal range environment.
Thanks

License question
This might be an odd question but im just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with getting a SGC with a history of depression?
I have mild autism and currently take anti depressants so would I be wasting my time and money applying?
I also live with my brother who could be an issue as he is a drug addict š¬
I'm in the Kent area if that's of any importance?
Thanks in advance.

Gun disposal
I have an old .22lr bolt action that I bought very cheaply. The bolt now just falls to bits and refuses to go back together. The rifle is so old it will be more than what I paid for it to source another bolt.
Do Police Scotland accept broken guns for disposal? How much would an RFD charge for disposal?

FAC and penalty points
Good evening,
I have been shooting for close to 2 years and applied for my face a year and 6 month ago.
Iām very worried as I have points on my licence but other than that a clean record
Has anyone ever been in the same or similar situation, Iām really worried Iāll get denied because of it,
Thank you !

Coach Gun Legality

hi all! just a quick question, would something like a coach gun be legal on an FAC? i know that on an SGC the minimum barrel length is 24" and minimum overall is 40" but afaik this only applies to pump action and semi auto shotguns. i've seen that guns like the bobcat (lever action) have a barrel shorter than 24" and are on an FAC, so theoretically would a coach gun with a barrel length under 24" be legal?
TIA!

Barrel reproofing
Hi all, considering purchasing the linked 10/22 at auction - but it's a bit of an oddity.
It's serial links it to being a model 01117 - 10/22, Blued, 18.5" barrel
But this one is silver/stainless (or perhaps bead blasted receiver?), with a black trigger, rail and blued barrel.
The barrel is also 16" - with a dovetail for the rear sight, and no front sight. The barrel behind the threads also has a little lip.
The auction house says there are no proofing marks near the muzzle, just what seems the be the original, and no extra proof marks by the breach - but to me this appears to be a shortened and re-threaded barrel.
How do I check this? And a side note, what would the consequences be if this is an unproofed barrel?
Many thanks

Shocking gun discipline todayā¦
Cpsa sporting shoot today and I witnessed 3 incidents of terrible discipline.
- exiting the stand with the gun closed and pointing just above horizontal
- taking a gun from a slip and carrying it around closed
- loading a closing a gun without it being over the stand
Same person for the second two. Someone in my squad called him out on it rather insistently!
First time Iāve seen anything that actually made me feel unsafe tbh.

Buying first gun
Hi all,
Recently got my FAC and looking to purchase my first file rifle soon.
I'm after a used Ruger 10/22, and sort of realised I have no idea what to expect, what to look for etc when looking and buying
I've found 2 or 3 that I like the look of, all of which are over an hour drive from me as I appear to live in an RFD deadzone (excluding shotguns)
Any tips or generally what to expect very much appreciated

NRA Membership Delays?
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue I have put in a membership application to join the NRA four months ago and apparently they are still awaiting on police checks to come back, is anyone else experiencing the same delays?
