The Sky is Falling This summer is going to be BRUTAL. Prepare for the worst.

Okay forgive the apocalyptic title, but seriously, today was meant to be only 26/27, but it felt like it hit 40+ degrees.

The sun was strong as hell today, and whilst I spent a grand total of less than 5 minutes in direct sun exposure, I still feel burnt.

We are cooked - this Thursday is going to be a stinker.

All of you who go "why is it so cold I can't wait for summer" can now enjoy the heat and the associated discomfort.

On a more serious note, was it just me that felt the heat today? Or am I just a neckbeard Redditor who doesn't like nice things?

Photography Mapped and photographed: every bike hoop in Melbourne Park and Yarra Park (MCG)

The bike parking hoops at the MCG are plentiful and easy to find - but around AAMI Park and Rod Laver Arena it’s not at all obvious where to lock up before an event.

I photographed and updated the locations of every bike parking rack here (they’re also submitted to OpenStreetMap so others can tap into the same corrections).

A bit of signage would go well here, as I often see people during the week locking up to poles and handrails because the bike racks are tucked out of the way.

Not On My Smashed Avo Fatboy Slim and Chase and Status... On the same day?!

Got tickets with friends to see Fatboy Slim in Melbourne in March next year.

Waited YEARS for my favourite drum and bass artist, Chase and Status, to return to Melbourne... And it's ALSO on 13th March next year!

Anyone else in this predicament? Does anyone think C&S date could get moved?

Real estate/Renting Living in cbd working in suburbs

Hey guys, I currently live in Perth but am considering moving to Melbourne in the future. basically the jobs im experienced in could have me travelling between the outer suburbs so for example it could be Werribee one week then Frankston the next.

Would the ideal place to live for the quickest conmute be in the CBD since it's central? Or are there other better locations to live and why? I value walkability where I live and also prefer catching public transport although not requirements, driving will always be an option.

THDG Need Help Weird activists/pamphleteers this arvo at Flagstaff station?

Walking to the train at about 4:30, I encountered two gentlemen who appeared to be protesting something and/or attempting to pass pamphlets off on people. They were holding them above their heads like Chinese communists with the little red book, and from what I briefly read, the front said something like "What was the last thing you pasted into ChatGPT?" One of them noticed me looking and said "you look guilty" as I went by. Anyone know what their deal is? I admit to being kinda curious what I am supposedly guilty of

Not On My Smashed Avo Religious preachers on trains

A European guy (maybe in his 30’s) started preaching on a busy city bound train from Werribee this morning, about how we’re all preparing to burn in hell. After about 10 seconds I had enough, and told him a couple times: “Shut up mate, no one wants to hear it”.
He proceeded to preach as he put his hand up at me to shoosh (the nerve). A couple others also asked him to be quiet, but he just kept going. I gave up, and just pouted until he finished.

Has anyone else experienced this, and how did you deal with it? Or stories of well executed shutdowns?

I also understand that some people will say it’s a free country and people have free speech. But when you trap people on a train with your ranting, whether it’s about religion or any other topic, I absolutely despise it and I can’t help but get angry about it.

THDG Need Help What to do in Melbourne in my last 2 weeks of freedom/unemployment

I have FINALLY landed a full time job after 11 months of unemployment. It was HELL ON EARTH but we’ve made it!

Since I graduated uni this will be the first time I’ll have a full time job and therefore be unavailable 9-5 Mon-Fri.

I have two weeks until I start. What to do in Melbourne during working hours to take advantage of this time? Particularly if it’s not available after work or on the weekends. I don’t have a car but do take PT so may explore the V Line. Also any practical things to do? I’ve already made a doctors appointment for a script renewal ✅

THDG Need Help Is this sketchy and a potential risk?

Recently there was a lady in distress at a train station due to an incident I won't disclose, but after taking her to the police station and providing a statement and leaving to get back to uni as it happened during commute, she has asked to meet for dinner and then asked about my specific department in my university. I am aware that sometimes I can be mistrusting of people but i am worried that specific questions about my place of study etc are being asked. Is this a known trap for anything like being mugged etc?

Om nom nom Quiet restaurants suitable for family meetings?

So my partner and I are getting married very soon, which means both sides of our family will finally be meeting (mine's flying in)!

We're trying to find a suitable restaurant, ideally southside (south Yarra down to st Kilda), that's not too noisy and can do a table for 10. Bonus points for ones that show off how good Melbourne food is!
