I make a stupid theme for my old Halloween skeletons each year.

I made the latest with Tencent's Huyanan AI and some skill-less messing about in Tinkercad. Didn't realise my missus was going to paint them or I'd have clean up the prints! o_0

THDG Need Help Found hard, sharp pieces in Sweet Valley peaches in jelly.

I bought some peaches in jelly from ALDI in Australia, and while eating them, I noticed several small, extremely hard, jagged pieces mixed in with the dessert.

At first, I thought they might be plastic, but I’m honestly not sure. They could potentially be fragments of peach stones, but they’re really hard and have sharp edges.

I may have unknowingly swallowed some and am a bit concerned. These were the pieces I found in my mouth.

I’m concerned because these pieces could easily hurt someone if swallowed, especially if they went unnoticed.

Does anyone know what these fragments might be?

Also, would this be something worth reporting to ALDI or taking further action over?

THDG Need Help Is the new airport drop off really that bad?

I’m on my way to the airport now, so I suppose I will be able to answer my own question in approx 20 minutes, but I just had two Uber drivers cancel my ride to the airport. They both showed up, saw me with my suitcase, and then drove off. One of them couldn’t figure out my weird half-one-way street and had to do the drive of shame back past me again.

After the first one I thought maybe his boot was full or something and he didn’t want to bother, but the second one made me think again.

Can it really be worse than the old setup?

Om nom nom Sweet, and Sour.

I walked past a guy that is high and definitely enjoying life more than I ever will, and he was talking about Sweet and Sour chicken.

Recently, my boss yelled at me and gf said my hobbies sucked, so my little feelings got hurt, and what I really need now is a massive plate of really good Sweet and Sour chicken or pork.

Does anyone know any chinese spots that serve comically large portions of good saucy fried meat on subpar egg fried rice? Where do you find independent chinese spots like that nowadays. I wish for a hidden gem that most wouldve guessed its money laundering at one glance, but turns out to be a culinary experience.

Maybe then, I will finally regain my confidence.

Not On My Smashed Avo LED Light pollution?

Post image

Just noticed that new white LEDs have replaced the warm-globes along the sandy line. They're absolute eyesores and resemble floodlights at night, with the last remaining warm light in the street behind.

Is this an indication of a wider rollout across the city or have I just not noticed it anywhere else? Theres tonnes of wildlife in the surrounding trees, I hate to think of how this will affect them too.

Not On My Smashed Avo The quiet commute

I'm not a regular commuter on PT, I am fortunate enough to WFH most of the time and when I do go into the office I can usually arrive late and leave early or late.

Last few days I've done peakish hour commutes and one thing I've noticed is the difference in the vibe when the whole carriage is quiet and just swiping phones vs when you have somebody that is having a deep discussion with someone in their phone, particularly on loudspeaker.

I spend my whole workday at the office having to listen to other people talking about things I only half care about. I go home and socialise with people where I will listen to them talking about things I half care about.

I enjoy my quiet time in the train when I don't have to listen to talking in the train.

White noise generators in some train carriages, yay or nay ?

THDG Need Help Halloween trick or treat etiquette question

I never trick or treated as a kid, so I don't really know how it works here is Aus.

My kids are under 5 and I thought it would be fun to dress up with them and go trick or treating, but I have a few questions to make sure we do it right.

- First of all, I imagine it's best to only visit houses that have decorations put up?

- Do people put a bowl of candy outside and we just take a few?

- Or are we actually knocking on doors and saying Trick or Treat! Then expecting candy?

- What is the best time to do it? Last year I saw kids roaming around the suburb around 5-6pm

I want to make this a fun experience for my kids, and replies are helpful!

Get Together. Compulsory Fun. Want a bit more whimsy in your social hobbies? Try Morris dancing!

Hey all! I have posted about this in the past but... my Morris team, Britannia Morris, are [always] on the look-out for new dancers or musicians to join us! We practice weekly throughout the year - every Friday from 19:30 to 21:30 at Preston Scout Hall (Kingsbury Hall throughout election activities) - and we perform at events such as Maldon Folk Festival, Melbourne Renfair, Swan Hill Food & Wine Festival and the National Folk Festival; as well as smaller markets and private events on occasion. We will be hosting the Australian Morris Ring national Ale (Ale = big Morris party) in Melbourne in 2027, so this would be a great time to join 😄

We are a Morris dancing team that was founded in Melbourne in 1979. Initially formed as an all-male side, in 2018, in the interest of embracing modernity and building community, Britannia became an all-gender team 😊🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Morris dancing is traditional English folk dancing, first documented as early as the 1400s. It carries on today all across England and the world - with teams in most states in Australia, as well as in New Zealand, the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Finland, and many more places. There is a bit of cross-over with English Country Dancing (or, for instance, Irish or Scottish ceili(dh)s, or Australian bush dancing) however Morris is most often a performance style dance (done in small sets of 4/6/8) as opposed to being more of a social/ball style of dance.

In Britannia Morris, we take joy in learning and sharing some of the older traditional Cotswold style dances but at the same time we’re always looking for fresh and creative ways to keep carrying the tradition forward - such as: we have even developed a whole set of dances in our own 'Kellybrook' style of dancing (a nod to the winery). We are a friendly, inclusive bunch and we do what we can to help each other out and to always have fun.

Please message me if you’d like any more info! (And if anyone worries that “it sounds like fun, but Preston seems far away…” – we’ve got dancers or musos from Oakleigh, Heathmont, Doreen, and even Werribee, all travelling in for practice… we’re always happy to organise some sort of carpooling!)

Editing to add:

I've realised though that I made my post at a bit of a weird time because tonight's practice will only be short, so not really ideal for someone to pop along to for a first time, and next week there'll be no practice as we will all be either travelling to or already at Maldon for the folk festival 🥲

That said, if anyone was looking for something random to do on the weekend of 31/10 - 1/11, little bit of a road-trip up, we are running at workshop at Maldon RSL on the Saturday morning (10-11am, 31/10/2026). Otherwise, we're pretty much roving-entertainment - free to enjoy - we mostly dance in the little park-area between High Street and Main Street (just across from the CFA Station) throughout both Saturday and Sunday. There's also heaps of other roving entertainment and lots of good cafes and pubs to check out at Maldon; or plenty of tickets available for the festival if anyone really wanted to commit to seeing a bunch of good folk bands and artists.

Om nom nom When did Melbourne’s food scene take off?

I have lived in Melbourne all my life. Growing up, you might have a good fish and chips or pizza shop nearby. Maybe even a Chinese takeaway.

But I don’t remember having such a variety of places, particularly in the inner and middle suburbs, that serve up a good meal. I don’t remember a cafe on nearly every corner, nor people lining up to try some new croissant or fried chicken.

Was there a tipping point where food, particularly casual dining took off? Or is this a change that’s been gradually happening over the decades?
