Other RMIT Engineering EPP: The Ultimate Guide (As of 2026)
Alright, I'll come clean. I took down the old post related to this for some... side reasons. I realise there really wasn't a point to do that in the first place, but I can't recover it lol.
But I think this post should serve as a bit of a graduating parting gift for myself as I believe I'm one of few people who took the liberty of researching this in full.
A huge thank you to u/MelbPTUser2024 for reminding me indirectly that maybe this post does deserve to stay up regardless of what comments or responses it gets. Definitely won't get as much traction as the original, but this post will stay.
Let's begin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to finish off EPP (Engineering Professional Practice) in RMIT School of Engineering
Since Semester 1 2024:
This is with the assumption you DO NOT land an internship and are unable to enrol in OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice and get an automatic 420 hours in your penultimate year of studies.
In the event that isn't the case and you DO land an internship and you ARE able to enrol in OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice - you must submit an RMIT WIL InPlace application:
https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/careers-opportunities/internships-work-experience-wil/wil-activity
NOTE: This plan only works with the assumption you MUST get a industry/company/WIL based Engineering Capstone A and B (found under BAND 1). If you have a regular engineering capstone, only the BAND 2 variation applies. If you have a company/WIL based capstone, you get the BAND 1 + BAND 2 components.
This information is relevant as of Semester 2, 2026 for UG (Undergraduate) students in RMIT's School of Engineering.
The generic information can be found in Canvas -> Bachelor of Engineering -> EPP. This information is simply an extension of what is already there - things of which were not elaborated properly.
There is the general danger for students who commenced in Semester 1 2024 (and graduate Semester 2 2027 - that would be Oct-Nov 2027 period where they apply to graduate) and they are under 420 hours. I know that this is a tough spot - but I'm hoping the information here can help you if you're stuck. That goes for everybody, actually.

ALL DEGREES (MAXIMUM EFFORT - NO INTERNSHIP)
BAND 1
- EA Engineering Virtual Work Experiences: (5 hours x 4 ) = 20 hours
- ***OENG1167 or OENG1168 Engineering Capstone Part A or B (Industry Project): 48 x 2 = 96 hours
BAND 2
- OENG1166 IPEP (Group Project): 24 hours
- OENG1250 Introduction to Engineering Design (Group Project): 24 hours
- ***OENG1167 or OENG1168 Engineering Capstone Part A or B (Group Project): 20 x 2 = 40 hours
- Engineering teams, clubs, societies participation in events: 10 hours
- Leadership summits through RMIT: 20 hours
- RMIT sustainability network: 10 hours
- Intellectual cultural modules: 10 hours x 3 = 30 hours
- RMIT Career seminars, event: 40 hours
BAND 3
- Leadership summits (external): 20 hours
- Paid Work Experience, Internships and Volunteering: 100 hours
TOTAL HOURS:
20 + 96 + 24 + 24 + 40 + 10 + 20 + 10 + 30 + 40 + 20 + 100 = 434 HOURS
(ELIGIBLE TO GRADUATE)
TOTAL HOURS (NO INDUSTRY/COMPANY WIL BASED CAPSTONE PROJECT)
20 + 24 + 24 + 40 + 10 + 20 + 10 + 30 + 40 + 20 + 100 = 338 HOURS
(HELD BACK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know there is some confusion surrounding the capstone... so I'll say it straight up without confusing everybody.
For RMIT Engineering Capstone A/B, there are:
=> RMIT based Capstone projects
=> Industry/WIL based Capstone projects (tied to a company)
=> International/Global based Capstone projects: https://www.internationalinternships.com.au/programs/rmit-engineering-capstone/#projects
There is a preference list at the start of taking Engineering Capstone A, of which you select preferences for the Capstone project you take for the given year. It's in your best interest to preference as many WIL based capstones as you can to secure your hours in this new current era of this EPP hurdle.
Of course, all this wouldn't matter if you were able to hold down OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice, but this is the universal formula for most (if not all) engineering degrees in RMIT's School of Engineering. Correct me if I'm wrong though - lol.
I just wanted to say - I'm a student. Not staff, not a lab tutor. Just a concerned student that realises that there is more complexity to this than what was explained at orientation all those years ago (or recently, if you're a 1st year!).
If you have any questions let me know... perhaps most of this will change soon. I'm hoping it will!
