Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews RMIT Master of Project Management (MC215) – General or Engineering specialisation?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a school teacher (background in Education/Arts) looking to pivot into the corporate or government sector. My target roles include Project Management, PMO, Bids & Proposals, or corporate Marketing. Because I want to keep my options open, I’m looking at industries spanning Education, Government/Policy, IT, Finance, Law, and Engineering.
I am strongly considering the Monash Online Master of Business Management and Master of Project Management double degree (B6057) or Master of Project Management at RMIT, but I am completely torn between two degrees and would love some student/alumni feedback:

The General Stream: It feels safer and highly versatile for cross-sector work (like policy, marketing, or education management). But does it carry enough weight to get my foot in the door at commercial firms?

The Engineering Stream: Since Engineering and IT are massive, high-paying project spaces, would specializing here make me a much more competitive candidate? Or is it too technical/rigid for someone with a non-STEM arts background who also wants to look at government or marketing roles?

Industry Value: Did the specific stream you chose drastically impact your job prospects or the sectors you could break into?

The Non-Tech Factor: For anyone in the Engineering stream who came from a non-technical background, was it manageable, or did you feel out of depth?

Overall Experience: How practical is the coursework at RMIT for roles like Bids/Proposals or PMO setup? How is the workload if balancing part-time work?

Appreciate any advice or perspectives you can share!

Advice needed Failed course contributing to WAM?

Has anyone been in the situation where they’ve failed a course/class but retaken the class and was able to pass? Is there any way to have only one of the grades contribute to your WAM? What would be the protocol for this?

From what I’ve read, both grades from the failed and passed class will contribute to your WAM but has anyone been able to successfully appeal this with the university or do I just need to accept defeat? Any advice would be appreciated

Discussion medical imaging wam

just wondering what wam people got into rmit medical imaging with 😭

i keep seeing completely different answers and at this point idk what to believe. some people say high 80s, others say low 80s is fine and there’s barely anyone talking about people in the 70s.

if you got an offer, what was your wam and what year did you get in? also were you transferring from another uni?

would appreciate honest answers, even if it’s not what i wanna hear lol

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews Is there any way to study a BA of Creative Writing but also media skills?

Year 12 student here. I want to do a Bachelor of Creative Writing with a focus on literary studies, but I also want to do electives or join clubs that will help me pick up media skills - such as photography, videography, photojournalism, film and television, audio, that kind of thing. Is there any way I can learn both creative writing and media?

I'm deciding between this, and the Bachelor of Arts at unimelb with a major in CW and minor/double major in Media and Comms. But I don't like how unimelb's media course is so focused on theory and writing and not practical skills.

Discussion Delaying graduation time to be eligible for another internship recruitment cycle

Is this a good idea? I cbf following Andrews's EPP formula from the civil engineering discord server, internships seem to be simple and straight forward, and I am sick of going to random events, has anyone thought about this?

Advice needed can i ask for group assignment to be mark individually?

I just got my assignment back. It's worth 50%, but I only got 70%. I'm very disappointed because my parts got marked well (almost maxed out). Getting an HD is very important for me. Is it possible to ask the course coordinator to mark my grade individually? I know it's a group assignment, but I really want to improve this.

Other RMIT Engineering EPP: The Ultimate Guide (As of 2026)

Alright, I'll come clean. I took down the old post related to this for some... side reasons. I realise there really wasn't a point to do that in the first place, but I can't recover it lol.

But I think this post should serve as a bit of a graduating parting gift for myself as I believe I'm one of few people who took the liberty of researching this in full.

A huge thank you to u/MelbPTUser2024 for reminding me indirectly that maybe this post does deserve to stay up regardless of what comments or responses it gets. Definitely won't get as much traction as the original, but this post will stay.

Let's begin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to finish off EPP (Engineering Professional Practice) in RMIT School of Engineering
Since Semester 1 2024:

This is with the assumption you DO NOT land an internship and are unable to enrol in OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice and get an automatic 420 hours in your penultimate year of studies.

In the event that isn't the case and you DO land an internship and you ARE able to enrol in OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice - you must submit an RMIT WIL InPlace application:

https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/careers-opportunities/internships-work-experience-wil/wil-activity

NOTE: This plan only works with the assumption you MUST get a industry/company/WIL based Engineering Capstone A and B (found under BAND 1). If you have a regular engineering capstone, only the BAND 2 variation applies. If you have a company/WIL based capstone, you get the BAND 1 + BAND 2 components.

This information is relevant as of Semester 2, 2026 for UG (Undergraduate) students in RMIT's School of Engineering.

The generic information can be found in Canvas -> Bachelor of Engineering -> EPP. This information is simply an extension of what is already there - things of which were not elaborated properly.

There is the general danger for students who commenced in Semester 1 2024 (and graduate Semester 2 2027 - that would be Oct-Nov 2027 period where they apply to graduate) and they are under 420 hours. I know that this is a tough spot - but I'm hoping the information here can help you if you're stuck. That goes for everybody, actually.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL DEGREES (MAXIMUM EFFORT - NO INTERNSHIP)

BAND 1
- EA Engineering Virtual Work Experiences: (5 hours x 4 ) = 20 hours
- ***OENG1167 or OENG1168 Engineering Capstone Part A or B (Industry Project): 48 x 2 = 96 hours

BAND 2
- OENG1166 IPEP (Group Project): 24 hours
- OENG1250 Introduction to Engineering Design (Group Project): 24 hours
- ***OENG1167 or OENG1168 Engineering Capstone Part A or B (Group Project): 20 x 2 = 40 hours
- Engineering teams, clubs, societies participation in events: 10 hours
- Leadership summits through RMIT: 20 hours
- RMIT sustainability network: 10 hours
- Intellectual cultural modules: 10 hours x 3 = 30 hours
- RMIT Career seminars, event: 40 hours

BAND 3
- Leadership summits (external): 20 hours
- Paid Work Experience, Internships and Volunteering: 100 hours

TOTAL HOURS:
20 + 96 + 24 + 24 + 40 + 10 + 20 + 10 + 30 + 40 + 20 + 100 = 434 HOURS
(ELIGIBLE TO GRADUATE)

TOTAL HOURS (NO INDUSTRY/COMPANY WIL BASED CAPSTONE PROJECT)
20 + 24 + 24 + 40 + 10 + 20 + 10 + 30 + 40 + 20 + 100 = 338 HOURS
(HELD BACK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know there is some confusion surrounding the capstone... so I'll say it straight up without confusing everybody.

For RMIT Engineering Capstone A/B, there are:

=> RMIT based Capstone projects

=> Industry/WIL based Capstone projects (tied to a company)

=> International/Global based Capstone projects: https://www.internationalinternships.com.au/programs/rmit-engineering-capstone/#projects

There is a preference list at the start of taking Engineering Capstone A, of which you select preferences for the Capstone project you take for the given year. It's in your best interest to preference as many WIL based capstones as you can to secure your hours in this new current era of this EPP hurdle.

Of course, all this wouldn't matter if you were able to hold down OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice, but this is the universal formula for most (if not all) engineering degrees in RMIT's School of Engineering. Correct me if I'm wrong though - lol.

I just wanted to say - I'm a student. Not staff, not a lab tutor. Just a concerned student that realises that there is more complexity to this than what was explained at orientation all those years ago (or recently, if you're a 1st year!).

If you have any questions let me know... perhaps most of this will change soon. I'm hoping it will!

Prospective/new student help RMIT Bachelor of Graphic Design Portfolio HELP

Thumbnail gallery
14 Upvotes

I'm currently a Year 12 student from NSW and I have no idea how my portfolio should look or be displayed. There's not many examples online that I can reference from and I'm worried that I'm not doing enough to showcase my abilities. I only have Canva, Ibispaint paint and a dream 😭 I really want to get into RMIT, it's my dream uni, and I want my portfolio to be perfect 😓 Can I get some feedback from people who alr got into this degree on what I already have so far?

I did 2 self intiated projects, one is a hypothetical brand that showcases my illustration and branding skills, and my ability to create a recognisable visual identity. The other project is a magazine editorial design which shows my ability to experiment with typography, composition and digital editing to create a distinctive visual identity.

URGH this is stressing me out so much 😭 I really want to make it in!

Please, if anyone has any feedback pls comment or DM me. I'd also really appreciate it if anyone could send me their portfolios 🙏🙏 Thank youu 💕

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews Does the bachelor of urban planning offer free electives?

Hey I’m currently looking to transfer from monash after having done a semester in IT and realizing it’s not for me. I was wondering whether the bachelor of urban planning has free electives which I might be able to transfer my IT units to, I’m an international student so fees are quite expensive and unfortunately letting those 4 units go to waste would be very difficult financially. I tried reading on the course structure and saw that they have minors for the bachelor, but are these minors mandatory or are they optional and if the units that would be used for the minors could be used for free electives instead.

Prospective/new student help Recommendation for studying between Bundoora and the City.

I am going to be studying my masters next year with my course split between the Bundoora and Melbourne City campus. From the course outline, my units are pretty evenly split between both campuses with Bundoora more for practicals and the City for lectures. Would you recommend I live somewhere between both campuses or to stay close to one of them and bite the bullet for commuting to the other?

Advice needed Can i get into RMIT as a SHS grad from PH living in Aus?

Hi! I’m 20 years old, currently living in Melbourne on a bridging visa while waiting for my permanent visa. I graduated from Senior High School in the Philippines under the ABM strand, and I’m interested in applying to the University of Melbourne. I had to stop uni in ph to migrate here.

I’m wondering if my Philippine SHS diploma is enough for undergraduate admission or if I’d need additional qualifications or a foundation program.

I also want to know whether I’d apply as a domestic or international student given my visa situation, and what requirements and documents I’d need.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What are my chances and possible pathways to getting into UniMelb?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
