Question Could Sheffield be my home?!

Hi alll! I would love to hear your absolute favourite and least favourite thing about living in Sheffield.

Basically I’ve been living abroad since graduating down south nearly 10 years ago and am currently taking a 6 month career break travelling before moving back to the UK permanently. I’m obviously a totally different person than the one that left and am open to moving anywhere I think I’ll have a good life. My family has also moved so don’t have a “home town” as such (plus anywhere is closer than being on the other side of the planet like I am currently). I’m in privileged situation to kinda pick where I’d like to live and set up a base having no intensive ties.

-Building community is massive for me and being able to do things and meet up with people easily
-Nature for hikes massive +
-I’m a teacher so schools would be a factor (though open to career change)
- I’m looking to buy within the next few years.

I know I won’t get all the things I want but would love to know areas people genuinely love living. I’ve had colleagues from Sheffield and they loved it and Sheffield and Manchester always get thrown around as suggestion for moving “north”.

TIA for any insight!!!

Additional question, anyone know any good souvenir shops in sheff?

Cheers!

Jobs I can’t find a job and don’t know what to do

I’m a woman in my 20s who graduated in June and still haven’t found a job yet. I’ve applied for probably close to 100 and check Indeed regularly. Is there just no jobs out there for me? My degree was in film and I only got a 2:2 so I’m not aiming super high sadly.

Question Is anyone aware of any clothes shops in or around Sheffield that specialise in / would have a lot of clothes made from natural fabrics (whatever the term is) as opposed to polyester etc?

edit forgot to say it's men's clothes I'm wanting

Ideally somewhere fairly "normal" i.e. I'm not after a patchouli smelling hippy/alt shop selling ponchos (not having a go I'm very fond of that crowd but I'm not them) like just a shop I could go to and get some shirts trousers jumpers etc that aren't made out of plastic. I'd prefer to buy new not because I'm against secondhand but because most secondhand shops (charity and vintage) tend to stock a lot of plastic clothes as well. I'm more concerned with durability comfort and practicality than style but within reason like don't send me to an old man tweed jacket shop just some clothes that look fairly presentable is my criteria.

Inb4: "you're asking a lot here!!!" I know!!!!! I'm obviously not expecting anyone to go hunting for shops on my behalf I know most clothes shops are shite now and that's just the way it is, just if anyone happens to already know any good places off the top of their head it would be appreciated thank you anybody who read this far 🙏❤️

final note also of course ideally I would like the clothes to not be insanely expensive, I'm a normal person and don't have a lot of money

Feel free to message me to book in! I am fully insured via Protectivity and can travel around Walkley and surrounding areas such as Crookes, Broomhill, Hillsborough, Endcliffe, and city centre. Thanks for reading!

My daughter’s school is fundraising for new books / reading equipment, one student donated an old Jelly Cat which is apparently quite rare. If you’d like a chance to win it, and support the school please check the link below to take part in the raffle (can’t edit the title)

Hi, i have a few pikachu dupes and missing some Pikachus. Was wondering if there is a place i can go to trade so i can get the ones I'm missing? Some card shops in different cities have a trade corner in a card shop for example. I have 10 left to collect. But around 6 to trade. Thank you.

Food I made a guide to Sheffield makers and places I rate. What have I missed?

Mods, sorry if this isn't allowed. Happy for it to come down.

A while back I asked here about Sheffield makers, and the replies were brilliant. Between that and a fair bit of eating and drinking around the city over the years, I've put it all together in one place: Best of Sheffield.

It's just a fun pet project and covers people making things that last (knives, leather, ceramics, outdoor kit and so on), plus food and drink grouped by a few areas. I want this to be only places I like and rate, so it's not a listing of everything, but plenty of good places will be missing.

So, what have I missed? Makers, cafés, pubs, restaurants, anything you think deserves a spot.

Original makers thread is here.

Event WICKER Preview + Willow Weaving Workshop - next Wednesday, 6pm

Showroom Cinema has a special preview of WICKER starring Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki next Wednesday at 6pm:

On the outskirts of a village by the sea, lives a Fisherwoman; smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbours, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker. In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos.

Following the screening, there is a special one-hour willow weaving workshop led by artist Michelle Clarke-Stables. Inspired by the film, you’ll create your own wicker heart, complete with lights, to take home with you.

Question Thoughts on regeneration?

Hi There,

As part of my A level Geography course, I am studying the impact of the recent regeneration in Sheffield city centre (heart of the city)
I was wondering (for those aware of it) what your thoughts on it were, what the best aspect is, what still needs improving, or simply a couple of words to describe it.

Many thanks
