If you're looking to get out a bit more and do some new, fun things, joining Liverpool's biggest Discord server is a great start!

It doesn't matter if you're a Liverpool local, just moved here, old or young, or just happen to love our city from another country. You are welcome to come and say hi. There's 1,000 messages being sent every day.

We have channels dedicated to photography, movies, photography, fitness, sport, music, showing off your pets, and even a place you can post your Wordle scores if you want.

https://discord.gg/fNmcKC97nH

What's Discord?

Think of Discord like a big Whatsapp group. It's essentially the same thing. You don't need a microphone, just your phone/keyboard. All we ask is that you're over 18, and have a desire to make new mates in Liverpool. Pop in, say hello, and you choose how much you want to talk.

Who's in there?

We have members from Liverpool and further afield. You don't have to live in Liverpool to join the chat. The average age of people is about 28. Our server is different than most Discord servers because we have a genuine community of awesome people who come to stuff in person.

What won't happen

You join and inside 24 hours, you've got a whole new set of mates.

Contribute, come to a few fun things, talk to people in person, and over time, those friendships form. A lot of people get frustrated because they don't find a friend overnight but that's not how friends work. Be prepared to make the effort and people will make the effort with you.

Real life events, real life friends. Come have a go!

Why doesn't Clive Barker get more love from the city of Liverpool?

Post image
76 Upvotes

Been on a recent Clive Barker kick due to the new Hellraiser game that just came out. And discovered for the first time that Clive Barker was born and raised in Liverpool even studied English at the University of Liverpool.

The man is a legendary writer in not just the Horror genre but Fantasy.

He is also responsible for Hellraiser and Candyman two of the biggest Horror franchises of all time. Not to mention all the other tv shows, movies paintings he has done over the years.

So my question is why doesnt Liverpool put up more of a song and dance for one of their own? He is probably one of the most famous/successful scousers out there but you never hear anything from the city recognising his achievments.

We never shut up about the Beatles, all our famous footballers and even people like Cilla Black.

Surviving the students of Smithdown Road.

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks for Smithdown residents. We had the big weekend of the move-ins, with parents dropping off their wide-eyed fledglings. On our road, two clueless drivers couldn't comprehend that they should have parked with two wheels on the pavement, so they parked on opposite sides of the road, blocking anything bigger than a compact car from getting through. One was keyed, while the other had two parking cones placed next to it. I don't condone the mindless damage, but I marvel at the cluelessness of getting out of your car and thinking, "yup, job done", while every other car on the road was half-on / half-off the pavement. I wonder if they have the intelligence to earn a degree, or if they should just give up now and go home???? I mean, if they are renting off-campus housing, that must mean they have been here a year already???

Then we have the total lack of road awareness, with masses of students traipsing up and down Smithdown on foot, crossing side roads without even a glance in either direction. How did these kids get to adulthood? Do they all live in places where the only traffic is horses and tractors? Do they no longer get taught the green cross code anymore?

I am no student hater, we have a great bunch next door who knocked to ask if it was ok to have a party, and since I can still remember being young, I didn't have the slightest objection and told them to have fun. I am just concerned about their lack of "big city" awareness. There is only so much hand-holding the Universities can do. You should not need to tell 18 year olds to look both ways when crossing the road!!

Is this Sefton Council email legit?

I've just filled in a renewal form for my Dad's blue badge and he's got this email. It makes sense for it to come through once submitted, but the URL looks a bit sus and there's something off about how the website looks.

Can anyone who's been through this process attest whether this is normal?

Looking for someone currently going through marriage separation or that has in the past

Hello all. My wife wants to have some time apart and we are currently trying to figure out the best living arrangements for us and our daughter as we decide future steps. I am looking for anyone going through the same situation, or that has in the past, that would be willing to sit down with me and share their experience. Male or female it does not matter as long as it is the partner that did not initiate the separation so we can relate. I am free tomorrow Sunday around 12-1 for a coffee/chat. Happy to meet in town somewhere. Thank you.

How do we feel about town's nightlife these days?

Alright

Just wonder what everyone reckons on town's night life these days?

I've noticed myself its well more busy after covid than it ever was before. Not necessarily a bad thing, I'm happy the city is doing well.

This means however a surge in knobhead occurrences. Like been seeing well more fights, usually cause of Lemmo, people walking around doing bad scouse accents at us, people just lashing shite on the floor.

That being said, some of the bars and restaurants in town now are actually boss, like you can get excellent selection of vibes, drinks, food in a relatively small area.

Can go for a bevvy and scouse in the Ship then get a top tier cocktail 2 minutes down the road in the Hummingbird.

I do reckon town is punching above its weight in terms of appeal and variety but it's starting to pay the price of popularity. Hen and stag do's are fine 90% of the time but not good seeing two lads scrapping in Mario costumes or young women pissed out of their minds at 3pm throwing up outside Tonight Josephine like.

Thoughts?

My Beatles Liverpool day

Today I visited Liverpool and first went on the Magical Mystery Tour bus round some of the main Beatle landmarks in the city. This evening I rounded the day off by watching 'The Beatles Complete' tribute band play the Cavern Club.

Next time I'm going to book for the National Trust tours of the Homes.

What an amazing day it's been. I just wanted to share how great it was.

AI Slop @ Makers Markets

So I had a quick look at the vendors for the Bombed Out Church makers market this Sunday and there will be at least one vendor there who has (allegedly) written a book and then used AI to generate the cover.

At an ART MARKET.

An art market that charges vendors, then asks for a 'suggested donation' from every customer at the door.

A place where people make their own food, drinks, art work, furniture, etc.

I'm so mad. I get that not everyone has the same distaste for AI Slop, or cares about the impact on artists/the environment/society etc. but I would rather see another stall selling 3D printed dragons than someone selling anything made with AI

Why do some people hate Bootle?

I know most people here will probably agree that it's not the WORST place you could be, but some of the things I've seen people say about the area and people that live here are completely insane hahaha.

I grew up in Bootle, in one of the areas I see people describe as the 'roughest' and warn others to avoid, and it really wasn't THAT bad. It's cheap and yeah it doesn't look very nice around here but you could say that about other places around the centre of Liverpool. Never had any issues with neighbours - you'd hear the odd fighting in the street but as long as you stay out of other people's business it's not going to be an issue most of the time... Things happen around here but again, they happen everywhere else, it's not a bootle thing. The transport is decent and can get you into town quick enough.

It is very deprived, that's a reason to avoid it..but why not just say that instead of spreading the idea that it's like the gulag? Am I desensitised? Is it actually that bad or are people really just exaggerating?

Roadworks extended!!

Junction crossing over picton road from rathbone the sign said last week starts sept 7th due to end 10th oct now says summer next year! I’ve tried to contact the council as to why and their response was.

“There’s a few issues we’ve ran into that we have to take weather into account and extend the end date”

Sorry what?? This has already caused a massive issue and now it’s on till some point in summer!?

Eatwell Cafe Closed - Myrtle Street/Catherine Street

Hi all, when I was a student at the COLC Arts Centre on Myrtle Street, I went to the Eatwell Cafe just opposite the college, on the corner of Catherine Street, for lunch almost every day. I moved to London in 2022 and only visited Liverpool again recently to see that it had closed and been turned into a shop. Does anybody know why it closed?

What problems in our city could tech help improve?

Hey folks, I'm a software engineer based here. Are there problems in this city that you think tech could help with? I'm tired of working on meaningless stuff in the tech industry, so I'm looking to start something. I'm only interested in tech for good; ideas that actually improve people's lives

Feeling pretty lonely, wondering where I'm going wrong ?

Hey Everyone,

I've made a couple posts on here looking for friends as I know many others have too !

However, it never really lasts and I find myself alone again. Either they move away, which is understandable and long distance friendships become harder. Or they will only schedule meetups once a month, which feels too formal, but I've always still gone through and done that ... Or other times, the effort just fades away, people get busy and no one has time to do anything all of a sudden. I feel like I become the one who's always messaging, checking in, and there's no effort from others until I stop texting altogether !

Again all of this is understandable because that's just how life is... But for someone like me, I don't know what more to do to make a good genuine friendship that will last !

I'm not from here, my family is back home in a different country, I'm not too close to them anyway, I literally just have my boyfriend and nobody else I can rely on, especially in bad times... I've made a few good friends to go out with for drinks and stuff, but I miss the deep emotional support I sometimes need. I need a network, a community...

I've tried girls on the go, meetups, other groups, meeting people one on one because that's where I shine best rather than a group !

I'm not really age restricted either, I'm 26F and while I do prefer more female friendships, I don't care how old you are, some of my best friendships have much much older people and I don't mean any of this in a weird way.

I love reading, hiking, music, dance, travelling, night outs, arts and crafts, I'm always willing to explore and literally do whatever.

I do wish to have friendships where we can just turn up at each other's houses like in the old times, and just exist in each other's company, you can do your thing, I'll read my book in a corner, talk in between, maybe cook together or have a movie night !

So I guess I'm here, trying again, looking for advice, or if anyone's in a similar situation feel free to message me and let's connect xx

Thanks in advance, and also a big thanks to the good genuine people I have met off here !

Getting to Blackstone Street Warehouse tomorrow?

Hi all, going to the above club tomorrow. However noticed there's also a game on tomorrow at the stadium next door

If Im coming from Preston what transport would you suggest? Was thinking parking at Kirkby station and using the Metrolink to Sandhills. Would that station be packed with cars due to the game? Any other options youd suggest?

Thank you

Recommendations for PC repair?

Any recommendations for PC repair in or near the city centre (L1, L8, L7)? I have an Asus laptop that likely needs keyboard and touchpad replacing. I use it every day for work, so I'm looking for a fairly quick turnaround. Thanks in advance.

Food waste collections

This is a question for those residents who live in terraced houses and put their wheelie bins in their gated alleyway where the bin men collect from…

Do the bigger food caddies go there too each week? Or do they go out the front for collection? The letter doesn’t stipulate this and can’t help but imagine that alleyways will turn rank quite quickly (more than normal)
