If you're looking to get out a bit more and do some new, fun things, joining Liverpool's biggest Discord server is a great start!

It doesn't matter if you're a Liverpool local, just moved here, old or young, or just happen to love our city from another country. You are welcome to come and say hi. There's 1,000 messages being sent every day.

We have channels dedicated to photography, movies, photography, fitness, sport, music, showing off your pets, and even a place you can post your Wordle scores if you want.

https://discord.gg/fNmcKC97nH

What's Discord?

Think of Discord like a big Whatsapp group. It's essentially the same thing. You don't need a microphone, just your phone/keyboard. All we ask is that you're over 18, and have a desire to make new mates in Liverpool. Pop in, say hello, and you choose how much you want to talk.

Who's in there?

We have members from Liverpool and further afield. You don't have to live in Liverpool to join the chat. The average age of people is about 28. Our server is different than most Discord servers because we have a genuine community of awesome people who come to stuff in person.

What won't happen

You join and inside 24 hours, you've got a whole new set of mates.

Contribute, come to a few fun things, talk to people in person, and over time, those friendships form. A lot of people get frustrated because they don't find a friend overnight but that's not how friends work. Be prepared to make the effort and people will make the effort with you.

Real life events, real life friends. Come have a go!

Does anyone find Paul Smith funny?

• Upvotes

My dad got me a ticket for one of his shows next month and I'm not looking forward to it

From what I have seen on YouTube he is about as funny as tooth ache I genuinely have no idea why he is so popular

I hope it’s alright for me to post this, but I achieved something yesterday, I also want to say a bit of a thank you.

So a few months ago I posted how as a manual wheelchair user I pushed myself to the city and back. It took around 6 hours, and by the time I got home I was very happy with myself, but I was also very sore, tired, and for a multitude of reasons hadn’t done it since.

Over the last few months my mental health hasn’t been at its best, but I’ve just been attempting to plod on, and for my birthday I got a handcycle attachment custom built for my chair.

When I first started using it I was surprised how genuinely difficult it was to use as my arms simply weren’t very strong to manage most even slight hills or whatever without nearly having a heart attack. So I have been training with it a lot over the last few months just to try and keep my head steady, and actually to try and see some progress.

Within a few weeks I was seeing and feeling that progress in being able to manage hills and longer journeys so I figured I’d try my original pushing goal of the city and back. I achieved that yesterday. For the most part, the journey went well, but I underestimated how much I’d struggle getting up Mount Pleasant on my way home (I got to the top eventually), and I was both extremely tired and extremely proud of myself for making it when I got home.

I also want to extend a thank you to the many people who saw me struggling, fighting for my life with certain hills on that journey and offering help. If any of you frequent this sub, know your offers were genuinely appreciated even though I rejected each offer out of a stubborn pride. The comments of support on the journey too were also a nice fun motivator and are all examples of why I actually really do love this city of mine.

Anyway, TL;DR, handcycled to Liverpool and back. Very pleased with myself, and very sore today. Will do again. Also included a picture of the handcycle, and a few photos I took yesterday.

LGBT clubs are turning into straight clubs

Liverpool seems to have a trend of LGBT clubs turning into “straight” focused clubs. OMG turning into Campus is the latest one. And G Bar has long been the same. What once would have been safe spaces are now focusing on hen dos, stag dos, brunch groups, and narcotics groups.

What is wrong with people here

There is litter absolutely everywhere.

I regularly see people opening their car windows at red lights and casually throwing their rubbish onto the road. Or teenagers walking down the pavement, dropping their lunch packaging as they go, without a second thought.

What I find particularly remarkable is the complete absence of shame. They do it so casually you’d think it was a perfectly normal thing to do.

Is this a failure of upbringing, complete lack of intelligence, or simply an absence of basic civic conscience? Is the concept of a bin genuinely that difficult to grasp?
I’m genuinely curious. What makes someone so completely indifferent to the place they live in?

Serious question, by the way. I’m not trying to be funny.

Why doesn't Clive Barker get more love from the city of Liverpool?

Post image

Been on a recent Clive Barker kick due to the new Hellraiser game that just came out. And discovered for the first time that Clive Barker was born and raised in Liverpool even studied English at the University of Liverpool.

The man is a legendary writer in not just the Horror genre but Fantasy.

He is also responsible for Hellraiser and Candyman two of the biggest Horror franchises of all time. Not to mention all the other tv shows, movies paintings he has done over the years.

So my question is why doesnt Liverpool put up more of a song and dance for one of their own? He is probably one of the most famous/successful scousers out there but you never hear anything from the city recognising his achievments.

We never shut up about the Beatles, all our famous footballers and even people like Cilla Black.

Has anyone attended a Meet Up event?

Been finding it hard to make new friends since moving to Liverpool in May, and I saw a few comments in here recommending the meet up app. I see that there’s a couple of events on Halloween and I’m trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, especially as it’s my Birthday this week! Has anyone attended any meet up events and did it work well for you making new Friends?

Looking for Carpooling from Liverpool to Manchester

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a lift to work and wondered if anyone commutes from Liverpool to Trafford Park or Manchester City Centre. I don't have my licence yet, and public transport has been unreliable. If anyone makes the trip daily, I'd be happy to chip in for fuel for a ride there and back.
Thanks!

Surviving the students of Smithdown Road.

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks for Smithdown residents. We had the big weekend of the move-ins, with parents dropping off their wide-eyed fledglings. On our road, two clueless drivers couldn't comprehend that they should have parked with two wheels on the pavement, so they parked on opposite sides of the road, blocking anything bigger than a compact car from getting through. One was keyed, while the other had two parking cones placed next to it. I don't condone the mindless damage, but I marvel at the cluelessness of getting out of your car and thinking, "yup, job done", while every other car on the road was half-on / half-off the pavement. I wonder if they have the intelligence to earn a degree, or if they should just give up now and go home???? I mean, if they are renting off-campus housing, that must mean they have been here a year already???

Then we have the total lack of road awareness, with masses of students traipsing up and down Smithdown on foot, crossing side roads without even a glance in either direction. How did these kids get to adulthood? Do they all live in places where the only traffic is horses and tractors? Do they no longer get taught the green cross code anymore?

I am no student hater, we have a great bunch next door who knocked to ask if it was ok to have a party, and since I can still remember being young, I didn't have the slightest objection and told them to have fun. I am just concerned about their lack of "big city" awareness. There is only so much hand-holding the Universities can do. You should not need to tell 18 year olds to look both ways when crossing the road!!

Remains of Chipping Street L8

A bit random

I came across a post years ago on the old Yoliverpool forums which asked if the remains of Chipping Street could be seen at the back of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I remember going on Google maps and seeing if I could work out where any bits of the old street may still be (I believe it was demolished in the 80s or maybe earlier?)

I was reminded of this bit of Liverpool this afternoon and went looking for the post but it has likely been deleted as it was years ago someone posted about it.

Can someone verify whether there are remains of Chipping Street somewhere behind this church?

Is Liverpool worth moving back to?

It's been years since I last lived in Liverpool and I do miss it from time to time, especially because I hate the west Yorkshire town I'm currently stuck in.

So i have been wanting to maybe one day return, however nowadays I've been unsure about that decision. Because of the more recent posts here and hearing other people's personal experiences, it's not panting Liverpool in a very good light at the moment.

What with people making negative post after another talking about not so great things such as the rise in far-right agenda, antisocial behaviour, young people acting like total scoundrels, police doing fuck all, losing it's charm or not being what is used to be, or just simply being too expensive, all that stuff.

It genuinely worries me that the way some people there are describing it make it seem like Liverpool's almost as bad as Middlesbrough or Birmingham, and if that's the case then I'm definitely not gonna want to waste time, energy, stress and money moving to an unpleasant area, as I actively try to avoid horrible confrontations, and I'm not gonna want to feel unsafe or unwelcome or miserable 24/7 should I move.

Obviously I'm not trying to say Liverpool has to be perfect because nothing is and I accept that, but i did have good memories when I was a kid and I miss them, I just don't want to immediately feel bummed out if I were to return and not have many good times or experiences, and I'm kinda tired of many bad things always outweighing the good, as I'm sure everyone else is too.

But, all in all, what do you have to say about this? Would you actually recommend i move back should I be able to and i was simply just being naive about what I just said as well as what others say that I read? Or would you recommend i stay away for one reason or another because thing's aren't as cracked up to be?

(Also sorry if this seems to vague or blunt, I didn't get good sleep recently)

Looking for someone currently going through marriage separation or that has in the past

Hello all. My wife wants to have some time apart and we are currently trying to figure out the best living arrangements for us and our daughter as we decide future steps. I am looking for anyone going through the same situation, or that has in the past, that would be willing to sit down with me and share their experience. Male or female it does not matter as long as it is the partner that did not initiate the separation so we can relate. I am free tomorrow Sunday around 12-1 for a coffee/chat. Happy to meet in town somewhere. Thank you.
