Adopt these pets at San Francisco Animal Care & Control and give them the homes they deserve!
PANDA (cat): Don't you love a lap cat with a major purr engine? Panda is a super sweet cuddle bug! She loves being near her people, leaning in close, climbing onto laps, and soaking up all the love you can offer. Panda came from a home with far too many cats and is now enjoying lots of attention and affection. Be the lucky one who'll bring Panda home! Panda A598887, 1 year old.

CATALINA (dog): You won't have to travel 27 miles across the sea to meet this lovely dog...she's right here in SF! This mystical dog may be a splash of Vizsla, a splash of Great Dane, and a splash of island princess. This resilient pup arrived underweight and has gained over twenty pounds thanks to their amazing veterinary team. She's filling out fast; she's a survivor, lovebug, and a best friend!

Crime Fixed Street Trees

While I love public art, I really hate taggers, and the sloppy, mish-mash of poorly executed vandalism that defaces our lovely city. I hate it on utility boxes, poles and mailboxes, but it's even worse to see it on trees and murals.

So (with the permission of the DPW graffiti abatement program and FUF) I've been fixing tagged trees when I come across them. Here are a few examples of my work. Unfortunately there's no way to safely strip the paint off the trees, so I have to paint over it in a way that obscures the tag. It doesn't hurt the tree, and while not perfect, I do think they look much better afterwards.

And to taggers wanting to leave their mark on the world... study art, hone your design skills, and have the city PAY YOU to make murals that people will love. The SF arts commission pays about $10,000 for a 500 sq foot mural, but only for approved artwork. You won't get approved if you have a criminal record as a vandal. Tagging is sloppy, ugly, incohesive and costs the city millions of dollars every year to cover. Show some respect for your neighborhood and consideration of your neighbors and knock it off. Tagging is the equivalent of a dog pissing on a tree, but it's much more of a hassle to clean up.

Priced out of SF - moving to Oakland

I cannot express how much I love San Francisco. I truly think it’s the most beautiful city in the world. I have family here, grew up coming here as a kid. My parents lived in the city as newlyweds in the 80’s and then moved to the South Bay to raise kids.

My partner and I are moving in together, he’s in the east bay, I’m in the city. There is no way we can afford an apartment here. We found a cute place in North Oakland and signed the lease a few days ago. I was crying when I finished and sent it.

Friends have been telling me that I can always come back, but our incomes will never be enough to live here and we’re hopefully going to start a family, which makes more sense in the east bay.

I do think that there are great qualities to the east bay, and I’m confident that I will adjust and enjoy life there. I’m just so sad, writing this after a beautiful walk through the mission and Dolores park.

If anyone else is going through the same thing, would love to hear from you.

PSA: pedestrian on cross walk with WALK sign has right of way over car turning

TL;DR: title.

Over the past month, I’ve repeatedly seen turning drivers honk at pedestrians who were halfway in legally crossing with a walk signal.

Pedestrians had the right of way on all of these specific cases, per below California Vehicle Code (CVC) subsections:

CVC 21950

> (a) Any driver, including one turning, shall yield the right-of-way to other traffic and to pedestrians lawfully within the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk

> (b) This section does not relieve a pedestrian from the duty of using due care for their safety. […]

CVC 21451:

> (c) A pedestrian facing a circular green signal, unless prohibited by sign or otherwise directed by a pedestrian control signal as provided in Section 21456, may proceed across the roadway within any marked or unmarked crosswalk, but shall yield the right-of-way to vehicles lawfully within the intersection at the time that signal is first shown.

CVC 21456

(1) A “WALK” or approved “Walking Person” symbol means a pedestrian facing the signal may proceed across the roadway in the direction of the signal, but shall yield the right-of-way to vehicles lawfully within the intersection at the time that signal is first shown. […]

(2) A flashing “DON’T WALK” or “WAIT” or approved “Upraised Hand” symbol with a “countdown” signal indicating the time remaining for a pedestrian to cross the roadway means a pedestrian facing the signal may start to cross the roadway in the direction of the signal, but must complete the crossing prior to the display of the steady “DON’T WALK” […]

FTA: In total, 170 sexual assault victims subjected themselves to a rape-kit exam in San Francisco through the first six months of 2026. Yet as of October, the San Francisco Police Department had made only 11 arrests based on those alleged sexual assaults, and only one of the cases is being prosecuted as a sex crime.

Pls help me find this bar

In October 2025 I went on a date and we ended up at this bar. I lost the picture and I have been on the hunt for the location as I am going back back soon. I only have pictures from the inside if anybody recognizes it, I’d greatly appreciate it.

FINAL EDIT:
I am in denial but
It is California Gold in San Rafael!! and I am having the weirdest alternative universe feeling because I don’t remember going there AT ALL! I definitely remember crossing the Golden Gate Bridge then being in downtown SF. So for the bar to be over 40 minutes away is weird. I did not blackout. Just having the weirdest feeling 🫥

Edit: I have checked bank statements. I have checked Uber and Lyft and I don’t speak to that person anymore AND I recently lost my phone so those pictures are gone. These are just screenshots from my story. I have been searching for this bar for three hours using Google Gemini/Claude and ChatGPT, they could not find it. They say the neon sign is too generic. So I thought I’d ask some locals

Edit 2:
I remember this bar was on a corner and there was booths as well, so it might be a restaurant during the day? It was also decorated for the month of Halloween. It was on a level street. There was no decline or incline

On the hunt for chocolate

Hello! I’m visiting San Francisco for a few days and wanted to buy some chocolates for my family. Unfortunately, it’s not exactly in the budget to pay $40 for a box of chocolates. I’ve seen the popular answers and those are a bit much for me. Any recommendations for somewhere a little more affordable that still has decent chocolate? Thank you in advance!

Sedation dentistry in outer sunset?

Hiiii. Apologies for the super boring post. But does anyone have a rec for a good, gentle dentist in the outer sunset who does sedation dentistry? Kind of approaching an emergency, and I am the actual worst in a dentist chair. I’d be incredibly grateful for any help this hive mind can provide.

Questions from a small town person

This is a bit of a random post but I thought it was interesting. I am from a small town in Spain, 100k inhabitants, which here is enough to be officially considered a city (the scales of europe are a different thing) and not so near a big metropolis. I happen to work with americans so I am quite into american culture specially the west coast as I keep some contacts there. Although some of these questions are general about big urban sprawl, I know SF the best so I wanted to ask here.

Because I have never lived in a big metropolitan area, I wanted to ask. Where do you consider the city to stop? Are there considerable climate differences between areas of the metropolitan area? Is a suburb that directly depends economically from SF considered part of it or treated as something independently? And how does a suburb like that maintain its infraestructure? Is it payed at some kind of metropolitan level?

These things are just alien to me, and always get me by surprise when I see people mentioning them. Really makes you think how different life is even when I still get all of the modern ammenities a city needs.

Pic / Video If anyone has been to, volunteered or worked with the J-POP SUMMIT festival (2009-17) in SF before, what factors do you think besides money and the current popularity of K-Pop that's preventing it from fully coming back after the pandemic, and what do you think it will take to for it to revive?

At least the good news is that NEW PEOPLE in Japantown (the parent organization that used to run the festival) are starting to put up new events like the Godzilla 70th anniversary one last December, as well as the movie nights with Roxie Theater. It now has a relatively new coffee shop that replaced the previous British tea place, and Animate USA is now doing monthly collab pop-ups there such as the Alien Stage one last month, and currently they are doing a Persona 30th anniversary collab event for this month.
