programs and apps 1 month into Linux: Mint, then XFCE, then Debian + KDE and I think I'm finally home
Hey everyone,
So about a month ago I finally made the jump to Linux. I started with Linux Mint Cinnamon like basically everyone recommends for beginners, and honestly it was a great start, no complaints really. After a while tho I wanted to try something lighter so I moved to XFCE. It was fast and clean but I dont know, something just felt missing? Like it worked fine but I wasnt really excited using it.
Now I'm on Debian with KDE Plasma and wow... KDE completely got me. There's so many features and you can customize literally everything, I've spent way too many hours tweaking panels and themes lol. For the first time I actually feel like I found what I was looking for this whole time.
Setting up Debian was a bit more work than Mint but I took it slow and did it properly, installed the drivers I needed and all that. The only real problem I had was the wifi on my PC, it just wouldnt work right at first. Turned out I needed a newer kernel, so I installed one from backports and it's been working perfect since then.
I also set up Steam and Dota 2 runs perfect, which was honestly the test I was most nervous about lol. My PC is an i3 10100F with an RX 6500 XT and it handles it really well.
Funny thing is I did the whole setup following a guide that Claude (the AI) made for me lol. Explained every step pretty clearly and saved me alot of headaches, so if your new and kinda lost it's actually not a bad way to learn.
Anyway just wanted to share. Any tips for a new Debian/KDE user? Must have apps or settings I should know about?
