I have Fedora installed on a smaller ssd, and wanted to use a partition that i have from my main windows disk as a secondary drive to increase my storage. I already partitioned it and made so it mounts automatically with the /etc/fstab, but now i want to know how to actually install things on it with dnf and flathub as applications are the most part of my storage use.

[Solved]
I tried the swap SSDs with different os's Windows and cachy, between to similar thinkpads. Kernel modules shouldn't be a problem. But I can't start into limine. Secure boot is off. What can I do to boot ?

Ive had this issue before, and i "fixed" it by switching to x11, but now im using wayland again
Pretty much the scroll wheel "jumps" 2 lines at a time, making each "scroll step" longer than it should be
Arch linux, kde plasma, wayland
SOLVED, it was a scroll speed issue

I just got a refurbished ThinkPad L14 after not having a personal notebook for years, the last ones were always passed down to me and bloated and died a painful and prolonged death.
It came with Windows 11 and I just won’t… My only experience with Linux so far was one Ubuntu install on an ancient ThinkPad I had previously dis- and reassembled. To my surprise it did start back up, made it through the installation on the fifth try and booted a couple of times. Main problem was the completely dead battery, it just kept shutting down. So I know how it’s supposed to work but I didn’t get to do anything with it at all. I don’t know how to code, think rudimentary excel and a handful of keyboard shortcuts. I’m very much willing to learn though, I’m getting into 3D printing as well as FPV drones right now and I want to run ballistic software, probably CAD as well. Also, forgive my ignorance, but would I be able to run Steam and connect stuff like controllers? Should I keep Windows as backup or just scrub it?
With that said, what would you recommend as an OS for someone as oblivious as me? Help me out here please

I have a Medion Akoya E2293 with an Intel Pentium Silver N5000, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB eMMC storage, running Xubuntu 26.04.
Modern websites, especially ChatGPT, feel really slow. Pages take ages to load, and scrolling or switching conversations can be laggy.
I see people running Linux on laptops with just 2 GB of RAM, so I'm wondering: Is web browsing simply too demanding nowadays for this kind of hardware, or should I still be able to get a reasonably smooth experience?
What's your experience with older, low-end laptops running Linux?
Is my Laptop to the end of it's life because of modern requirements?

Hey Guys,
i got the idea to prefent doing dangerous shell commands. So i want some aliases for dangerous commands but you just can set aliases for one word commands.
Is there an other easy way to capture these commands an 'translate' them is a simple echo or printf? I don't want to write a function for my .zshrc just to prefent these issures. Just want an easy way ;)
Is it to dangerous to define the ForkBomb, because this run the frokbomb by reading its file?
Maybe its easyer to understand be reading the code.
So here is the snipped from my .bash_alias:
# ------------------------------------------------------------------
#for your own good !! EMERGENCY
# ------------------------------------------------------------------
#alias rm -rf /*='printf "\033[1;31m Force Remove Recursiv ROOT?! \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias rm -rf /etc/cron.d/*='printf "\033[1;31m Force Remove Recursiv CronJobs?! \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias sudo chmod -R 777 /='printf "\033[1;31m Watch your own rights?! \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias :(){ :|:& };:='printf "\033[1;31m Fork Bomb?! freez your PC \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias sudo find / -type f -exec shred -n 5 -z -u {} +='printf "\033[1;31m erases all Data and destroy OS!!! \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda='printf "\033[1;31m Disk Destroyer?! \033[0m\n"; false'
#alias sudo bash -c 'echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger'='printf "\033[1;31m Kernal Panic OR BlueScreenOfDeath \033[0m\n"; false'

Hi everyone!I’m currently using Windows 11, but I’d like to switch to Linux. Since I’m a beginner and don’t have much experience with Linux, I’m looking for a beginner-friendly distro.Which Linux distribution would you recommend, and why? I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Heyyy :3, I’m thinking of using bazzite, nobara, cachy os handheld or steamos on the rog ally after seeing Fortnite is coming to Linux and possibly other games in the future, was wanting to get some opinions from others on this because I’m debating on which would be better, I have used Linux in the past, including arch with hyprland but it’s been a minute other than troubleshooting cachy for my partner and the laptop I use to watch things, I’m just having issues with win 11 and want to switch

Hi, I need help because I'm thinking about starting to program in C but I don't know whether or not stick to chromeos and crostini or just jump to a whole linux distro. This machine is a CX5400 with 8 gb of ram and an I3 1110g4 so it isn't crap by any means. the thing is that while I know chromeos is deeply and a perfectly integrated to my crurrent hardware, I don't like the fact I have to run a very big debian virtual machine just to compile in C instead of running on baremetal. I understand that a full linux distro may fix this but any systemd + kde/gnome will almost give me the same ram cosumption as chromeos but with worse integration and perhaps some issues with audio I had experienced before. What do y'all recommend? Should I just install any other linux distro without systemd? Will Wine run natively on non-libc+systemd distros? I read as much as I culd the wine wiki but didn't find any line talking about native compativility with muslibc for example, yeah without using flatpak and installing pieces of libc to make it work. Thanks community!!!

Hello!
I have a laptop dual-booted with Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24, and I want to separate my OS into two laptops. On my dual-booted laptop I want to keep my native Windows system. I have a spare laptop that can be wiped and reformatted, and I want to move my Linux dual-boot onto this other laptop. What's the best way for me to do this without potentially damaging either install?
I know I can do a fresh install of Linux on the other laptop, move my files over on a USB stick, and then delete the dual-boot partition, but my current Linux has a bunch of packages and SDKs setup that I would like to avoid re-setting up.

For someone jumping ship to Linux from windows, is secure boot really something I'll need as a general user?
I keep getting told that it just makes installing anything (like Nvidia drivers) more of a pain but I don't really know the upsides of having it enabled.
Edit: I'm using fedora KDE

Hello everyone, I built a new computer about a month ago and decided to finally give Linux a shot. I realize now that I made a mistake that I would like to correct before I get too deep. I have a single 4TB drive with a single partition. I would like to repartition it to have some space set aside for the OS and the rest for everything else. This way if I do something stupid or want to install a different distro I won’t lose everything. How much space would you recommend for the OS? I’m going to look at moving /home into the data partition.
With Linux is it possible to repartition the drive while I’m logged in or will I need to boot from a live USB to do this? I’m keeping notes of what I’ve installed, different configs I’ve made and so on. I’m also using a program to easily back up everything important on an external drive.
Thanks everyone, I’ve used Linux in the past but it’s been a few years since I have used it as my main OS so it feels like I’m starting over.

I booted up once more after the time it was stored and all devices remained functional. The shutdown worked properly this time. I did not change anything since the update so it seems to have completely sorted itself out. Maybe the issue was to do with components stuck in weird ways. In the rare case anyone needs more documentation, the kernel version is: 7.2.10-200.fc44.x86_64
Fedora Linux 44 (Workstation Edition)
21WVCTO1WW (ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD)
I have been using the ThinkPad without issue for about a month (my first daily-use Linux system). I decided to update with fwupdmgr after seeing the system notifications about available updates and reading about it online (ArchWiki). I ran refresh, get-updates and then update and rebooted the computer.
When I started using it again, I noticed the media keys for volume weren't working and checked settings to see that no built-in sound input or output was detected. I then checked to see what else could be broken and found everything else (including fingerprint scanner, touchscreen and so on) worked except the webcam.
I rebooted a few times to no avail and then left the laptop suspended with the lid shut for some time until I started using it again around 30 minutes after the update when I realised the 3 devices worked again (midway through writing this post).
I went to shut it down for storage but then it would freeze at the splashscreen with the Lenovo and Fedora logos and a stuck spinner. Both times I shut it down, it did this and I had to force it by holding the power button. In between the shutdowns, however, everything appeared to be working correctly including the previously undetected devices.
When I am able to use the laptop again soon, I can paste specific command outputs for troubleshooting. I didn't want to mess with any critical configuration without being certain and I don't believe it's possible to roll back firmware updates of this kind on ThinkPads. For now, any help or ideas would be appreciated.
