EDIT: Issue Seemingly Resolved Itself (?)
I booted up once more after the time it was stored and all devices remained functional. The shutdown worked properly this time. I did not change anything since the update so it seems to have completely sorted itself out. Maybe the issue was to do with components stuck in weird ways. In the rare case anyone needs more documentation, the kernel version is: 7.2.10-200.fc44.x86_64
Operating system
Fedora Linux 44 (Workstation Edition)
Hardware
21WVCTO1WW (ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD)
Issue
I have been using the ThinkPad without issue for about a month (my first daily-use Linux system). I decided to update with fwupdmgr after seeing the system notifications about available updates and reading about it online (ArchWiki). I ran refresh, get-updates and then update and rebooted the computer.
When I started using it again, I noticed the media keys for volume weren't working and checked settings to see that no built-in sound input or output was detected. I then checked to see what else could be broken and found everything else (including fingerprint scanner, touchscreen and so on) worked except the webcam.
I rebooted a few times to no avail and then left the laptop suspended with the lid shut for some time until I started using it again around 30 minutes after the update when I realised the 3 devices worked again (midway through writing this post).
I went to shut it down for storage but then it would freeze at the splashscreen with the Lenovo and Fedora logos and a stuck spinner. Both times I shut it down, it did this and I had to force it by holding the power button. In between the shutdowns, however, everything appeared to be working correctly including the previously undetected devices.
When I am able to use the laptop again soon, I can paste specific command outputs for troubleshooting. I didn't want to mess with any critical configuration without being certain and I don't believe it's possible to roll back firmware updates of this kind on ThinkPads. For now, any help or ideas would be appreciated.
