My husband finished his first sweater last week. I'm just proud of him! He isn't on social media, but he gave me permission to share. He really enjoyed the texture on this, and he's already cast on a cardigan in double moss stitch.

One of us, one of us!

The pattern is Finest Kind by Alicia Plummer. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/finest-kind

The yarn is Malabrigo Rios in Cirrus Gray.

I'm so so so hype omg I've never made something so nice and luxurious for myself and I absolutely love the feel, the drape and the shape of this wrap. Altogether it took me a bit over 70 hours to knit and the fact that I persevered and managed to finish it in under two months is insane!! I'm so excited for future projects!!

Discussion Discussion: Rhinebeck crowds

Post image
228 Upvotes

Speaking from only 3 years of experience of attending NY sheep & wool, this year was so crowded to the point that I might not attend next year.

Maybe I’ll attend Sunday instead of Saturday, but I can’t imagine it being that drastically different.

What are your thoughts? I wonder if they will enforce a ticket limit one year.

I’ve always admired this knitted sweater worn by Keira Knightley (as Joan Clarke) in The Imitation Game. Are there any knitwear pieces from movies or TV shows that have stuck in your mind?

Finished Object i present to you all: the great shorts debacle of 2026 (and how it was corrected)

tl;dr: i ignored the instructions and suffered the consequences (but i learned from my mistakes!)

no, the first slide is not an advertisement for weight watchers. i had bought muki craft's bliss shorts pattern (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bliss-shorts) and two skeins of lion brand mandala yarn in genie back in may and i was SO excited to get started so i could knit my own shorts in time for summer. i've never had much patience with patterns but i'd already tried to freehand these and failed, so i bit the bullet and bought the pattern.

me being a reckless knitter, i ignored the gauge and measurements completely and just started going. i chose to make a medium because i wanted an oversized fit. but i was using WAY too big of needles and ended up creating the monstrosity on the first slide. it was insane because they looked to be the right size until i'd completely bound off and then i was like...oh shit lmao

so i frogged them completely and started over using smaller needles and a smaller size. i had so much yarn left over from the first time that i decided to turn the shorts into sweatpants instead! they're still missing the tie and pockets but i'm really happy with how they turned out so far :)

there's a lesson here somewhere but i don't know if i'm actually going to learn it lol

In the news Great knitwear in the Netflix show Below

All of Canada has been enjoying all the great knitwear in Below. If you haven't seen it, it's a sea monster TV show based in rural Newfoundland. Although seeing the Halibut sweater show up did take me out of it a bit.

my first finished project!! step by step sweater by Florence. I've crocheted for almost 2 decades and am weirdly emotional to have finally learned to knit after years of wanting to but being intimidated! I know it's not perfect but I'm proud of myself :) no one in my life knits so please tell me if there is anything glaringly wrong with my piece so I can improve!

Finished Object My First Projects!

I've been crocheting for a while, and like many others have been inspired to learn how to knit to make the baa-ble hat lol. I've attempted knitting many times over many years, but I'm pretty determined now. Honestly for my first finished objects I'm pretty happy with how they turned out despite some errors along the way. Currently struggling with consistent purling and decreasing was genuinely the most frustrating part of this whole experience. If anyone can give me advice on that I'd appreciate it. My baa-ble yarn arrives tomorrow!

I'm so relieved I finished this piece at all. This will be a work horse.

Pattern: Drydwen wrap

Yarn: BC Garn Loch Lomond GOTs in color way Bordeaux

Warning: this pattern was riddled with written errors. The author was unreachable. Some of the errors I couldn't figure out so I had to wing it.

You've been warned.

Rave (like a rant, but in a good way) Husband innocently asked how much yarn is in a ball. He got a dissertation, I got a new appreciation for my casual math skills.

My husband hypes my knitting, commiserates when I have to frog, etc. but he’s understandably oblivious to the more technical side of it. Last night, I was tinkering with swatches for a hat with stash yarn and a pattern I already own, hoping to avoid yarn chicken. The pattern calls for 150g of the recommended yarn, and I was muttering to myself as I translated it to my yarn. He asked “how many feet of yarn are in a ball?” Cue a deep dive into yarn weights, gauges, swatching, and pattern sizing. This man is an architect, and was blown away by the math that goes into making a thing that fits.

What a joy to info dump about this putzy craft! I’m so happy we have something that can both flex our brains and put them at ease.

Discussion How do did you acquire the yarns in your yarn “stash”?

I’m curious how you have the yarns that you have. Did you buy them because you liked the yarn or for a specific project?

I sew and knit. When I buy fabric, it’s usually because I like the fabric and I have some project ideas that I could use it for. With knitting, I previously bought some yarns that I liked (colour, feel etc) but now I only buy yarn when I have a specific project in mind.

Grateful to have gone to NY Sheep and Wool this year. It was lovely seeing all the beautiful hand knits, squishing the yarn, and petting the adorable critters. Can’t wait until it comes back around!

The sweater is a combination of Lakes by Ozetta and Neigh by Caitlin Hunter. My Ravelry page is in the comments with all the modifications I made.

Help - equipment Hand dyed yarn

Hi all, a year ago I bought 5 skeins of a beautiful hand dyed merino yarn from a small Peruvian yarn company. I was planning what to do with it and I just realised that 2 skeins are definitely from a different color.

I am a newish knitter. Is this a loss? Anything I can do? Will it look horrible if I try a whole cardigan with it? I may be able to do something with the 3 skeins, but it will be difficult to find something to do with just 2 skeins.

Tips and Tricks Hand Dyed Yarn blending

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Hi friends! I’m going to be using this gorgeous yarn for a stockinette sweater and I’m looking for some ideas / wisdom for how I should approach blending. This yarn is by Hedgehog Fibres, and it’s the color way PBJ in their Merino DK base for anyone who’s curious!

I’m wondering how you normally go about blending skeins like this for a sweater? I’ve heard that alternating skeins is the way to go but I’m wondering how might be best to distribute? For example, would it be best to start with skein A and then halfway through start alternating with skein B and then when A runs out you start alternating between B and C, etc.

I’m also wondering if there’s a type of pattern or construction that lends itself better to yarn like this? My initial instinct tells me something knit in panels might create the most consistently since you wouldn’t have the dramatic circumference change with something like a raglan where you transition from the yoke to the body.

Interested to hear how others have handled this and what strategies you’ve employed!!

Finished Object Learned to spin and knit my first top from it!

Knit my first actual garment after I learned to spin! It's the mochi knits Madrid vest.

I learned to knit in primary school, once did a scarf as a teenager, and forgot about it for 15 years. Last year I got back into it, made a hat and an emotional support chicken.

Signed up for a spinning workshop in April and got hooked. Straight away bought a second hand spinning wheel, a badger/Texelaar fleece from a farmer for 6,- and spun the yarn!

The yarn ended up not quite being the right gauge for this project, but I already decided I wanted this vest, so sized down and hoped for the best.

There lots of little issues with both the yarn and the knitting, but I am still quite pleased with how it all turned out!
