I essentially just drew up a design on my iPad, and made it into a grid using Knitting Chart! It’s not perfect, and if I were to do it again I’d really need to make sure my tension and the areas where colors change are clean 😅

Yarn is Gilliatt from De Rerum Natura

Grateful to have gone to NY Sheep and Wool this year. It was lovely seeing all the beautiful hand knits, squishing the yarn, and petting the adorable critters. Can’t wait until it comes back around!

The sweater is a combination of Lakes by Ozetta and Neigh by Caitlin Hunter. My Ravelry page is in the comments with all the modifications I made.

Worsted Flax sweater completed in Caron Macchiato yarn, colors Fleeting and Breathe.

I'll be honest, I mostly knit smaller projects like hats. I've pushed myself to complete some sweaters for my kid, but this is the first large wearable I've tried. I didn't know if I'd get too bored or overwhelmed to finish, so I purposely chose some cheaper yarn that I'd been gifted several Christmases ago. The reasoning was that, if I pushed it aside or frogged it, I wouldn't feel guilty for wasting good materials. And if something was majorly wrong with the construction, I didn't love the colors much anyway, so no biggie.

Well, jokes on me. I like it! I enjoyed the process! I want to make more! So I suppose I'll be wearing this around all winter. :)

I am LOVING double knitting so far but holy cow is it ever slow going, and does it ever require concentration. This first bit, between the cast-on and the wee needles and just learning the concept, took foreeeeeever. The results are spectacular though and I'm so motivated to keep going with it.

The pattern is the Buzzy Bees Scarf, and the yarn is Jawoll Superwash Sock in "morning sun" and "midnight black."

The Ashmolean museum shared stunning pictures of a sweater knitted by Ivi, a PhD student at Oxford. She has interpreted JMW Turner's painting of Oxford High Street into a sweater. There are pictures of her in the sweater, both in High Street and in front of the painting. Architecture to painting to knitwear, over many years.

Work in Progress Frog & Toad…help!

Thumbnail

Is there anyone who has knit the Frog and Toad pattern designed by Frog and Cast/Kristina Ingrid McGowan? I started it ages ago, but life got in the way and it ended up in hibernation…not unlike a real frog or toad.

I just pulled it out and am trying to determine my spot so I can continue. I didn’t make any notes on my pattern or on Ravelry, and I’m struggling to find my spot. I know I’m only on page 4 of the pattern and near the beginning of the “Shape Chin” section.

There are 21 stitches on waste yarn, ten stitches on one needle, and eleven on the other. I’m confused because at the end of the “Top of Head” section it says you should have 42 stitches. Then in the next section it indicates K10, place previous 21 stitches on waste yarn, K12, wrp-t. It seems like that would equal 43 stitches total…right? I’m stumped.

I’m tempted to just forge ahead with these short rows, but at present my working yarn is in the middle of what will be the chin. I’m feeling super dumb at the moment and would appreciate any help offered! TIA

This was also my first time trying ladderback jacquard and I really enjoyed it!

I messed up a couple of stitches in the design and initially planned to fix them with duplicate stitch but I think I'll leave them.

Pattern is the tarot card sweater by Tamara Jordan. Yarn used was Drops Lima in almond & black.

Finished Object i present to you all: the great shorts debacle of 2026 (and how it was corrected)

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

tl;dr: i ignored the instructions and suffered the consequences (but i learned from my mistakes!)

no, the first slide is not an advertisement for weight watchers. i had bought muki craft's bliss shorts pattern (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bliss-shorts) and two skeins of lion brand mandala yarn in genie back in may and i was SO excited to get started so i could knit my own shorts in time for summer. i've never had much patience with patterns but i'd already tried to freehand these and failed, so i bit the bullet and bought the pattern.

me being a reckless knitter, i ignored the gauge and measurements completely and just started going. i chose to make a medium because i wanted an oversized fit. but i was using WAY too big of needles and ended up creating the monstrosity on the first slide. it was insane because they looked to be the right size until i'd completely bound off and then i was like...oh shit lmao

so i frogged them completely and started over using smaller needles and a smaller size. i had so much yarn left over from the first time that i decided to turn the shorts into sweatpants instead! they're still missing the tie and pockets but i'm really happy with how they turned out so far :)

there's a lesson here somewhere but i don't know if i'm actually going to learn it lol

I self designed this spencer vest as a gift for my boyfriend. I worked in some basic cables and a subtle lace pattern on the front. I love how well it fits him!

I used hobbii highland wool (autumn leaves) on 4mm needles.

I live 1/2 an hour from Rhinebeck so I popped over the the festival for a few hours! My haul doesn’t look crazy, but it took me ALL DAY to find a true black. Then I retraced my steps and dug through sales bins to find the perfect neon green for an X Files-themed sweater. Plus some self-striping rainbow yarn for Christmas socks for my sibling!

(Cabled Heart Hat free pattern on Ravelry) I am SO proud of myself for trying some challenging cables, and very pleased with the result. At one point I realized that I missed a cable FOUR rows down and did the most stressful ladder down of my life. I learned so much doing this, and my husband loves his new hat!

Work in Progress Followed exact same instructions, second sock came out way too big. Help 😭

Thumbnail

Edit: The issue was definitely my tension! One is 34 stitches x 34 rows = 4 inches and the other is 31 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches 🧎🏽‍♀️My tension is so perfect on non-colorwork projects I just couldn't believe it lol. Thank you everyone!! Gonna go reknit this thing 🧶

I am just completely confused right now. I've knit 5 pairs of socks and I have never had this issue, but this is my first time doing colorwork.

I followed the exact same instructions for both socks, and I take notes on literally everything I do on the 1st sock and follow those for the 2nd. I know I knit them in the same size, as the colorwork charts are different for each size and I would have noticed the change. And even if I didn't, I triple check the number of stitches after casting on, completing the heel turn, and starting the toe.

The only possible thing I can think of is that I used the wrong needle size but I can't imagine that being the case. I used a fixed size 1 needle for the cuff and an interchangeable size 2 for the rest of the sock, and I didn't even disassemble the size 2s before starting the second sock! Upon realizing how much bigger the 2nd was, I double checked and sure enough, the needle is the correct size. I used the exact same technique to knit both as well, just in case the issue is the length of floats being looser in the 2nd, I included a picture. I don't even think I accidentally knit the entirety of sock 1 on size 1 needles, because I've only knit socks on size 1s before and I remember being annoyed with how bulky the size 2s felt when I was getting used to them.

The gauge on the 2nd sock is definitely looser than the 1st, I just cannot figure out how this came to be. The issue isn't blocking either, I like to block my socks together once they're completed. Any help would be appreciated T-T

The pattern is Easy Peasy Socks by Karolina Adamczyk. The yarn is Cascade Heritage in the color Snow and WYS Signature 4 Ply in the color Summer Sunset.

Pattern: Starry Starry Night Socks by Suzanne Bryan

Alterations/options: knit using the wide leg chart and round toe tip chart

Yarn: Wool Warehouse Yarnsmiths Merino Sock (4ply, 75% merino, 25% nylon) in Royal Blue and White

--------

I finally finished my first pair of socks!

It feels like a big knitting milestone to me. I've been a knitter for a while now (about 8.5 years?), and have been knitting colourwork for a large chunk of that time. But one thing I consistently shied away from was socks; the heels worried me. Earlier this year I took a leap of faith and now I have a pair of socks!

I loved knitting these. The heel was much less fiddly than I thought it would be, despite having to knit flat in colourwork (not my favourite activity, that's for sure). The pattern was easy to follow

They were on the needles for the better part of a year. I have a habit of knitting a chunk, forgetting about it for a few months, knitting a bit more, forgetting it again, and so on in this lurching fashion until the project is finished.

I've included the finished socks along with some progress photos from throughout the year. If the question of why most appear to be taken in a greenhouse crossed your mind, that's because they were. I often go to Kew Gardens at weekends to chill out in the glasshouses and knit while enjoying the greenery. Most of these were taken in the Palm House.
