Mod Post Community Updates

Greetings everyone!

As many of you are aware, our community has become overrun with posts that clearly violate our rules. We try our best to remove non-confessions as they come in, but many slip through the cracks. On top of that, our AutoModerator rules have become overly broad and often remove valid posts that should be allowed. The end result has been a steady decline in the overall quality of posts, and we want to fix that.

Confession Classifier

To get things under control, we are implementing a new system to accurately determine which posts are valid confessions and which are not. To do this, we are deploying a new tool called Confession Classifier, built specifically for this community.

Starting today, every new post will be reviewed by the classifier, and AutoModerator will no longer handle post removals. Because this app is designed to understand context better than standard keyword filters, we expect far fewer valid confessions removed by mistake and a sharp decrease in posts that don't belong here.

How it works

Each new post is read by an AI model (Google's Gemini), which decides whether it's a valid confession under our rules. Posts that clearly aren't confessions are removed; everything else stays up. You can read exactly what data is used and how it's handled in the privacy policy.

This system is brand new. We are monitoring it closely, but false positives will still happen. When the app removes a post, it leaves a comment explaining the decision. If that happens to you, you have two options:

  • Edit your post: Check the rules. If your confession can be edited to satisfy them, make the changes. The app automatically rescans posts it removed and will restore yours if the edit brings it in line.
  • Appeal to the mods: If you are certain your confession meets all requirements without any edits, send us a message and a human moderator will review your post and manually approve it if it belongs here.

Feel free to leave a comment with any questions or feedback you may have.

I was a janitor and lived rent-free in the janitors closet.

• Upvotes

I worked as a janitor in a school. There was a dedicated janitors closet which was quite spacious. After I had finished vacuuming all the classes in the afternoon, I had to turn the security system on and leave within a minute.

There was a caveat though, the front gate and the dedicated janitor closet were exempted from the motion cameras.

I couldn't justify (or afford) spending half of my paycheck a week for what should be a human right - shelter. So I did what I had to do and simply lived in that closet. I saved over $20,000 in rent

I installed a mini-fridge and a air-fryer and had quite the time. The contract got changed so I lost that gig.

I feel a bit bad for freeloading off the school, but the government can provide insulated sheds to all of its citizens for a few billions but would rather spend much more on war and overinflated salaries for its oligarchs.

I wouldn't do it again, best commute ever though.

I rigged a gift card sales competition to win a prize

• Upvotes

This happened years ago at a local HD. Like most big retailers we were doing an internal completion to see who could sell the most gift cards. I was a cashier and hated selling credit cards or gift cards. So I came up with a plan to dominate the competition without asking a single person if they wanted to buy a gift card.

I bought myself a single gift card for 20. Throughout my day when we were slow I would ring up gift cards and pay for them with my purchased gift card. I was the top seller by far in this competition, all because of a $20 gift card. pretty sure they gave me extra pto days as a result.

I cheated in a contest and won a new iPod at my job.

4.3k Upvotes

This was about 20 years ago; I was working a cell phone company called Alltel (which I think eventually got absorbed into Verizon).

I was a customer service rep, and I hated my job with a fiery passion. But one thing I absolutely loved about working at Alltel was the frequent contests they held for the reps. I was young and broke and I was happy to try to win as much free stuff as I could.

Alltel had started offering a Roadside Assistance package that could be sold for $3.99 per phone line, and they had a contest to see who could add the most packages over the course of a month. When they announced that the winner would receive a brand new iPod, I was all in on it. I tried to offer the package on every call I took, and some people took me up on it, but others weren't interested.

After doing some digging, I noticed that there was a code we could add to a phone line to negate the $3.99 charge for a single month. As soon as I found that code, I realized that even if a customer didn't want Roadside Assistance, I could still add it without the customer being the wiser. I would add the Roadside Assistance to each line, add the discount code to offset the cost of the package, and jot the account number on a piece of paper that I kept in my desk.

At the end of the month, I was told I won the iPod, and the next day I showed up at the office early, went back into all of those accounts I'd written down, and removed the Roadside Assistance so the customers wouldn't be charged once the free month ended. It's possible that someone might've noticed the charge and the credit on their bill, but considering the total bill wouldn't have changed, I doubt most folks would have even looked for them. If anything, their following bill would have had a slight credit on it from the prorated removal of the $3.99 charge.

I ended up winning a few contests using that same method for different phone features, and as far as I'm aware, no one ever found out what I'd done by the time I left.

I ran PR for a fandom space to keep abuse allegations suppressed, thinking they were baseless. I learned yesterday they were entirely true and was banned for blowing the whistle. NSFW

• Upvotes

I'm a user of a fandom space around a popular video game, and had been a semi-active participant in a Discord server for enthusiasts of a particular character. This fandom-within-a-fandom is somewhat contentious due to its stance that a character is being foreshadowed as transgender, and so catches a lot of criticism that I don't take seriously.

Earlier this week, however, a document accusing this fan space of harboring a child groomer came out.

The document was full of irrelevant fandom drama, complaints about rude users and general LGBT infighting, but at the very bottom were screenshots showing explicit messages being sent to a minor. The minor's age was known to both the offender and the moderation team, but they had granted themselves access to 18+ channels using their server permissions, and no other moderator took action to undo this.

Users on the server were easily manipulated into thinking that, because the document was so full of petty fandom beef, there must be no credible allegations inside. Anytime a user did point out what appeared to be explicit messages sent to a minor, the moderators brushed it off, calling it a resolved situation, and that the users no longer were in those channels.

Over the last week, I've been working with various subreddit moderators to have the document taken down as baseless harassment, and the vast majority of subs' moderators agreed. The document revealed personal details about users uninvolved with the debacle and openly called for users to be shunned from fan spaces, it seemed like textbook brigading and harassment. On the only sub that did not back down and allowed the document up, I was part of an initiative to have the site's admins remove it under ToS violations. I thought we did a good job.

I learned yesterday that both the offender and the teenage moderator were still in the server, and no penalties were applied to either. The moderators had no defense for what had happened other than it was a known issue, and that they can't believe anyone was surprised to learn this. I was swiftly banned after blowing the whistle.

I really don't know where to turn to, in order to make this right. I've contacted all the subs' moderators I previously spoke to, to let them know the allegations were true. I've apologized to the users I criticized as gullible or obsessive stalkers.

I just don't think this is enough, that I owe something to the people who were brave enough to stand by the allegations in the face of my vicious smear campaign. I'm just so sorry.

I lied about being ready for an event and it ended a 20+ year old friendship. I don’t feel guilty about it.

Hello Reddit,
I feel like a need to write this as it’s been a little over year since a long time friend and I went our separate ways.

Forgive me for any typos or if this sounds discombobulated. Classic first time. I believe some context is needed. So here I go.

For some context, me (30y,m) and my friend (also 30y,m), I’ll call him Tim, have been friends since middle school. I love this man and still very much care for him. I mean, we’ve been friends for so long. We also have this friend group together who has also been friends since middle school or, some, since elementary.

About last year, myself and a lot of our other friends noticed Tim hasn’t been connecting with us as much anymore. He cancels plans last minute, lies about being sick, getting drunk by himself, he’ll say he’s booked all month just to again, cancel plans if you schedule a month out , can’t make time for discord nights, or a phone calls.

One day, myself and one other mutual friend end up ambushing him to have a one to one since Tim kept on cancelling our plans to talk.

During that talk, Tim tells us why he’s been acting this way. He feels depressed, he can’t do group hang outs any more, and he feels no one in our group cares about his hobbies/interest. So I make an active plan to have more one on ones with him. (Which he also cancelled most of them but kept one)

Jump to the event. Tim loves video games. He’s been going to this video game event for years. It’s a speed running event for charity called GDQ. From our previous conversation, I ask Tim if it was alright to go with him this year. I didn’t want to intrude if it was a private thing. Tim said to come along. We slightly make a plan for Friday or Saturday. But since I work in health care and had a pt attack me Thursday, I told Tim I would have energy Saturday to meet up with him.

Now here’s where the lie comes in. I never looked at price for the ticket until the week of the event. Tim also never told me but what ever. The ticket was $150. And if I’m being honest, I didn’t want to spend that much money on this event. Especially since I would be paying for parking since the event was in the cites, food, and drinks. But I didn’t tell Tim that. As far as Tim knew, we were still planning on meeting up Saturday morning.

Cut to Saturday morning. I knew I was gonna be the one to last minute cancel on him. It’s about 30 mins before I was planning on calling to cancel on him, AND HE SENT ME A TEXT TO CANCEL ON ME!

In the text Tim told me he’s not feeling well. He already drove home but could still meet me out there if I forced him too. Tim didn’t say “forced” but basically was implying it.

Honestly, I viewed this as a win win. I didn’t even have a ticket and he’s the one cancelling on me! So I told Tim, “it’s what ever, I’ll look to see if I could get a refund”. I thought I would act a little annoyed but not give him too much grief. Since you know, I’m lying to him. I thought after a few text cancelling our plans would be the end of it. I don’t know if my acting was too much but Tim would not drop it.

Tim kept on blaming me. Saying I was “poop-pooping” all over him. He literally texted that. And I wanted him to drop it so bad but he kept on blaming me. Tim telling me “ I could have rallied if you made me” Tim continues and continues. Writing these long lengthy text. I’m trying to kept it short. I do realize I could have stop it too. But that’s when I had it.

I brought up all the lies, the last minute cancels he always does. I snapped at him. I called him names. Coward, psycho, pussy. I acknowledge I could’ve handled that better. But the way he was acting was so unreasonable and wild to me. He sounded like he was fighting a blog comment. Tim said “ well that’s your viewpoint.” Like duh! That’s why we’re talking. I told, more liked yelled, at him saying “ I’m not an internet troll, I’m your friend. Talk to me like one” I tried to call. But Tim said he was too tired. Followed up by more lengthy text. For another hour. I called him out. I told him I knew he wasn’t sick cause I saw the drunk snap chats at 2am Tim sent to our other friend.

Anyway, since that fight Tim still doesn’t know I never got the ticket. He never knew I wanted it to be cancelled. A little part of me feels guilty about that. But honestly it made me realize I was putting 100% of the work into our friendship. I’ve reach out a few times. But I stopped. And since I stopped reaching out, I haven’t heard from him once. It sucks to lose a friend for so long. But over all it’s been better.

I’m spending more time with friends who wanna spend time with me. I hope he’s well. But that’s my confusion. I lied about an event that snowed balled years of lies

Thank you if you read it all.

When I need to shower and I’ve ran out of clean clothes but I don’t have enough time to use the shower, I wash my underwear by hand in the sink with detergent and put it in the air fryer to dry quickly

My t shirt I can just wear while wet and it’ll dry off but I don’t like the feeling of soaking wet underwear

Edit: in the title, I meant to say not enough time to use the washing machine and not the shower

I’ve been lying about who I am with a fwb for months NSFW

Basically the title. I met this girl at a local show, and we hit it off. That night I was lowk depressed, and had been forced out by a friend. I still thought she was attractive, but I wasn’t really up to par. I am usually much more talkative, but I just wasn’t up to speed that night. I realized halfway through our conversation that I was being pretty dry, but all in all she seemed into it so I thought she was into the ‘nonchalant’ thing.

The thing is, after that night which I thought would be a one time thing, she wanted to see me again so I ended up going back. I decided not to be too talkative bc I thought it’d ruin it. At some point we barely ever had a real conversation we’d just shoot texts, I’d come over and leave. I could tell that she was into that so I just kept it up until I even started changing up the way I dress a little before seeing her.

We don’t see each other often, but eventually it just became something that happened on the side. She doesn’t even live near me so it became routine for me to almost put on this fake persona whenever I’d go, and it’d become this private thing that was just for me. Relatively nobody knows about it and it was so detached from my real life. I liked it that way because many of the people I know don’t even know I like girls because I kept it private, so it was just easier that way.

That being said, recently she expressed that she wants to actually create a real relationship. It dawned on me in that moment that this girl actually doesn’t know anything about me. Any information we’ve given each other was purely superficial, but on an actual human level she thinks I’m a completely separate person than i actually am. The person that she wants a relationship with is barely even me.

In all honesty I don’t even know why I kept it up. M There was a good chance she wouldn’t even have a problem with the ‘real me’. Maybe I just liked the idea of it. At some point it became completely normal to me and I stopped considering why.

I do genuinely like her and would give it a shot during normal circumstances but I think I’m in too deep at this point. I’m not even masculine like she thinks, I just started leaning into that more with her. I can’t very well change my entire personality now. I’m thinking I should just cut the whole thing off now and save the headache.

Edit: me is woman, we is gay. Didn’t feel the need to correct people but just to clear up any confusion.

My son made me cry last night and I feel very bad and guilty

1.4k Upvotes

I'm a single dad with a 21yo, 10yo and 8yo boys. My 21yo son has always been very independent. He works two part-time jobs and goes to college. Because he lives at home, he doesn't have many expenses. He just saves money. I've had a few unexpected expenses this year including an $8,000 out of pocket medical bill. Now we need a new fridge. I didn't really buy new clothes for the 8yo as he can wear the 10yo's old clothes and those clothes are pretty new. But it became clear that the 11yo needed new clothes and now has a style. Not Gucci, but def name brand athletic. Minecraft shirts and Spider-Man boxers are not cool. To make matters more complicated, he asks for money to buy lunch because they have entrees. It's what the cool kids eat.

I made a comment over the phone about how I never thought in a million years I'd be that dad who goes without lunch so my kids could eat. It was a joke. My oldest son must had overheard that out and last night, he gave me $500 in cash. I asked him why he was giving me money and he said that he knew that I was broke and started to tear up saying that he didn't want me to not eat lunch. He said he knew kids in school who didn't have food to eat and how sad that made him. I told him that I was fine and his paying a lot of his bills is helpful. He just said, dad please take the money. I took it because I knew not taking it would make him anxious and insulted.

The fact that my son cares that much about me and others really touched me. I feel awful having his money. He works so hard. He essentially paid money so he didn't have to deal with anxiety and sadness that I caused.

I sometimes wear the same exact outfit everyday for an entire week straight.

I know people are going to call me funky for this but hear me out. If I have a bunch of things or errands planned during the week that has no correlation to each other meaning there’s no cross over of people, I’ll just wear the same exact outfit for each thing. Like for example this week I had classes on Tuesday, my aunts birthday on Wednesday, I went shopping and got a nose piercing on Thursday, and I had a dentist appointment Today. All these things had no correlation and since no one I know would recognize what I’m wearing, I just wore the same outfit for each of these things and I’m probably going to wear it tomorrow again cause idgaf.

None of these things required exercise or anything that would make me sweaty so I just don’t see an issue with it and I have never had excessive body odor so the clothes still just smell like my perfume.
I don’t think this makes me unhygienic, if anything I’m helping the environment by saving water on washing clothes so I will continue to do this.

What confession would you make to someone if it were anonymous?

• Upvotes

I hated my classmate soon after I met him because he claims to have a special condition, and from the beginning I realized it was a lie. He treats us badly and is violent towards us Taking advantage of that, after I overheard him talking to his parents about how he was deceiving us, I started telling everyone the truth, and no one included him in their groups anymore. Now I don't know if I did right or wrong.

I brought cannabis edibles into the UAE via my boss’ private plane

I was working in the UAE at the time and was very excited at finding we would be traveling to my home town in the states for work for a week. I missed smoking a little weed here and there, so because I was flying private, I felt emboldened to take some chocolate edibles back with me. Everything went smoothly and when I got back to my place, I shared the contraband with some friends. We all had a blast enjoying something we would normally not go straight to jail for.

In hindsight of course I still think about how incredibly stupid I was and how the risk wasn’t worth it in the slightest. It absolutely could have gone very wrong and then I wouldn’t be here confessing this today. I am no longer living in the UAE and where I live now couldn’t care less about my bag of edibles in the house but I’ve learnt that what I did back then was in fact one of the dumbest things a person could have done.

Heads up 7-up elementary grade School game CHEATER

I’m a millennial in my mid 30’s and figured its a great time to come clean.

During grade school never did I ever not cheat while playing the game heads up 7-Up.

To explain the game, I believe the intention was for the teacher to fill some spare time during class with a little peace and quiet and entertain the children just enough. The teacher would choose seven kids to stand at the front of the room. All the rest of the class would put their heads down on our desk with their thumb up and eyes closed. Those seven children would then quietly wander around the classroom and choose one lucky person to push their thumb down. After all seven had chosen their “victim”, they would lineup at the front of the classroom. The teacher would claim heads up 7-Up! And the seven kids that got their thumb pushed down would guess who they thought pushed their thumb down. And the cycle would repeat with any of the children.

My desire to participate was higher than my desire to play fairly.

Venting about college dropout + former S-Worker (promise not to be too long)

I think being 22 and seeing all my peers graduate while I’m on my second gap year due to finances is really getting to me. I used to be a SW-er to pay for school…two sugar daddies, tuition paid, whole nine yards. I thought I was set for life till I realized that like if work wasn’t good for me at 18/19 years old…I stopped talking to them, applied to scholarships/set charity events and worked two/three jobs. Couldn’t afford it even if I wanted to. I’m at this weird stage where I want to go back and finish my degree but having an outstanding balance and being no where near paying it off makes me feel like a failure. I had hopes and dreams in being in the medical field and now what?? A server at a shit restaurant and still seeking SD for a bit of cash?? It’s pathetic. I feel pathetic. I just ultimately wish I could just go back to school and get my degree and feel like I am more than just what my body can do for other people.

Gave my bosses boss a bj after a few drinks and maybe getting promoted NSFW

3.8k Upvotes

I (m40s) got a little bit drunk at a work do a few weeks ago, and gave my bosses boss (m40s) a bj in someone's office

Was done in 5 minutes or so, first time ever doing this, been in a long term relationship with a women for so long and recently separated

That's how this happened, was talking to a few work mates about being recently separated and wanted to start having new experiences and wasn't even meant in a sexual way, just in life in general, he was listening and after a few drinks asked me if I wanted to have a "new experience"

He came by a few days ago and said that my name was in the ring for a promotion, I had never applied for or even really wanted and most probably don't deserve just yet

Grief has no rules whatsoever & pops up at the most random interludes.

Not really a confession, just an observation I wanted to share.

I lost my best friend of 24 years in late December of last year. It was sudden & unexpected; health-related.

I think of him every damn day & how much fun we had through our teen years, college/20s & 30s. He passed away at 38, & because we are born exactly a month apart, I celebrated my 39th...without him. We celebrated SO many birthdays together, mainly pool & lake parties because we're both summer babies.

Tuesday I was driving home & I had it on an absolutely random playlist on Spotify. "Safe Now," by Archers popped up & it had me seriously close to bawling in traffic (thank god for dark tint & sunglasses).

In the middle of the song, I get a daily, "Remember When," Facebook notification. Usually it just says the day, but it popped up with just his name. Just Ryan's name. It felt so perfectly placed & I couldn't help but laugh & thank him for popping up, even for the briefest of visits.

The weather is cooling down in the afternoons & I'm seeing a LOT more motorcycles on the road. Didn't even think about it, but saw 2 guys at the intersection facing me & said, "Careful boys, & Ryan, you better be fully suited up & be safe every time you go out." He was an avid rider, but of course he hasn't ridden since his passing.

I didn't even think about it, the words just came out.

Sorry for the non-confession, I just really needed to get this out.

I’ve been “stuck in traffic” for the last 3 years. I’ve never paid a late fee at the dentist

My dentist charges $50 if you’re more than 10 minutes late.

I've never once been seen on time there. I usually wait ~30 minutes in reception.

So three years ago, I started texting the front desk “stuck in traffic!” Linda, the recepetionist, waives the fee every time. She’s never asked a single question.

5 dental appointments. $250 saved.

I’ve thought about coming clean. But yesterday Linda texted my next appointment reminder “Leave a little early this time - hope the traffic’s better!”

Linda has never Googled my address because I live 4 blocks away.

used to sniff and take my cousins (F) socks when I was younger

I, M25, had a thing for my one year younger cousins feet when we were younger. Back then I used to spent a lot of time at my cousins family house and with her walking around in socks or barefoot. She had the most beautiful feet and I took every chance I got to take a sneak look at her feet.

It all started when I was about 14/15. One day we were out in the city and later played some soccer in the garden. Later when it got dark she went inside and I stayed out for a bit watching some YouTube. Anyways once I got inside I had to pee so I went for the bathroom. As I walk past her room I notice her shoes and worn socks on the floor and I felt a urge to just pick them up, so I did. I took a big whiff of her shoes, grabbed the socks and went straight for the bathroom. I put them on the sink and peed first, then smelled the socks she’s been wearing all day and boy that scent was amazing, teenage me immediately got hard. I figured since her parents often pick up clothes laying around the house she wouldn’t notice a missing pair of socks so I put them in my pocket. I spent the rest of the day and went home right after, guess you can imagine what happened next. Over the years I took like 8-9 pairs of her worn socks without her noticing and I still have them.

Obviously I eventually grew older and stopped. We still have a normal, very close relationship, never anything weird or something. I never told her and never will. Eventually gonna throw away those socks too.

I've been lying about going to tuition to go out with my friends

Everyday at 7pm, my dad sends me to tuition. The tuition is on the second floor so he drops me off near the stairs. But I never go to tuition because i wait downstairs for my friends before walking to the 7-11 right infront of the tuition. I buy snacks and then hang out in the boba shop right next to it with my friends while taking tons of photos, play games and go on random websites

I had fun but I felt really bad because my dad paid the tuition center money and I still don't even go. I feel very guilty for it but I still don't even want to go to tuition

The "replacement" dog, the one after the dog who stole your heart

I am a cat person. Have always been. Dressing them in my doll clothes as a child, taking one on hikes with a leash and 20 ft rope in early adulthood, choosing names with great meaning based on my life at that moment. There was always a cat in my house and my life. And then I met Elvis. Or Bebe as he had been named by his previous owner who surrendered him to the shelter. My son and I went looking for a cat. His had passed a month or so earlier and my cat, Shaggy needed a companion. And there he was, in a crate trembling with these huge ears and a cherry eye as they called it, labeled a Pitt Bull mix and being ignored. He was small, and scared and to be honest so ugly I couldn't resist meeting him. We spent about 2 hours trying to get him to play with us and came back a few days later. I stood outside the glass with my son and daughter and he crawled out from under his blanket and started wagging his tale. He was ours. More accurately, I was his. For the next 12 years, he was my constant. Through breakups, heartaches, the start of the estrangement with my daughter, the good times, the bad times, he was always there. I foolishly got married in 2015. My spouse commented that Elvis should no longer sleep in bed with me. I told them I was calling a lawyer the next day to get an annulment. He has shared my bed before they came in to my life and that was not changing. I was 1000% serious. I should have jumped on that red flag and left before the rest of the disaster occurred.

At 13, he needed surgery to remove a tumor that was limiting his mobility. We were already dealing with doggie dementia and idiopathic vestibular syndrome episodes. And anesthesia on a senior dog is risky. I was a mess. After the surgery, which found connective tissue cancer and a prognosis of another 4 years at most, which we knew was not going to happen, the doctor I worked with told me to get a puppy because he was not dealing with with my ass when Elvis died. A few months later, I found Luna. I tiny little girl labeled a chihuahua who did not look at all like a chihuahua. For the record, she is Boston terrier, cocker spaniel, chihuahua and poodle. She is completely the opposite of my special little guy. He became an old man by age 6, content to snuggle with his people, sit on the porch with the cat watching the birds and go for strolls around the park just enjoying life at a slower pace. Luna will be 8 soon and still has massive puppy energy. She is loud, and demanding and just too much at times. She has had tons of health issues, pancreatitis, arthritis, disc disease and the poor girl was even bitten by another dog a few years ago and ended up needed stitches. I do love her, I really do, BUT she is not my Elvis. Oh, and she does not like my cats.

I have a bad habit of automating generation of AI images and gooning to them.

• Upvotes

My brain is so fucked up that normal social media gooning isn't enough anymore. The brain fantasies about horny situations. And I realised I can use AI image generation to put those thoughts into reality.

Growing up I was really good with computers and learned coding and shit. With that I made a script which auto generates 100s of horny AI images. Females dressed with exotic outfits and physical features. Of course everything is strictly 18+ and not nasty. Also the images are NOT based on real people and its just random output. I have SO much stuff to goon to.

Since this horny media contains my fantasies, it is so hard to resist the urge to spend hours gooning to it. I also deployed it on my private server so I can goon anywhere in the world. The addiction is this bad. I might be the first guy to ever do shit like this obviously not something to be proud of.

The post-nut clarity is more like ptsd because I get 1 millisecond flashes of the AI images in my mind. This year NNN is gonna be crazy.

I was taking the subway home today when two adolecant boys hopped on and started scribbling everywhere. I thought about photographing them in the act and ahow it to the police as evidence, but i didn't. I just sat there and watched, they hopped off, and then i went home without telling anyone.
