I’m sitting here, wondering what to do, what I didn’t do, why I didn’t do it, and how much it’s going to take to not have it be this way. I’m wondering about other people who get to go home and not be subconsciously worrying about whether or not they tried hard enough today, and what they did in their lives to end up in a position where they’re able to do that. It might be stupid or selfish to think that way but right now it’s how it feels. I don’t get a break. My mind doesn’t stop. And it’s really mean to me. Even when I want nothing more than it to be peaceful inside my head on days where I have nothing to worry about, it’s there. The things that I enjoy on my time off have a decent chance of getting ruined by my lack of control? Effort? I literally don’t even know what to call it. I’m on my 4th or 5th therapist at this point, medicated, and it’s been the same every time. Honestly, I feel like I’m too scared to tell them how bad it really is, how it has been for a long time. I’m too scared to tell anyone. I like the things in my life that I like, and I despise the things that I don’t. I don’t want the things that I like to change, and I’m scared that if I were to be 100% real with somebody, they would change. And I would probably leave them worried. It’s also kind of embarrassing or shameful. I like to pride myself with looking back at how hard I’ve tried on certain things, and then i think about the apprehension and lack of openness I’ve shown to all of my doctors and the people that I care about. almost feels like i’m just going through the motions. I don’t want to upset anybody more than I already have.
The outbursts that happen to me are from an extended time period of these things existing and inevitably growing in my head. They might seem specific in this big paragraph, but they affect every single thing that I do. I mentioned my subconscious before, and I swear that it’s been working overtime, uncontrollably, for all the wrong reasons. It builds up, since I’m too scared to be real with anybody, and it shows itself in a way that I’m purely ashamed of. I don’t like the way that I address certain things, I recognize it, but I still feel helpless in the sense that I can’t do anything about it in the moment because something in my head literally won’t let me. I know how I come off. I know that it’s been getting worse. And I literally hate it. I don’t want to be mean, I don’t want to be unapproachable, and it makes me feel extremely guilty. The guilt. The fucking guilt kills me. I don’t understand it most of the time but it has a profound effect on the way that I am. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons I’m so hard on myself, because it feels like I need to make it up somehow. But I can’t even specifically identify what it is I need to make it up and to who. Generally, there’s a bunch of stuff from my past that I still feel guilty about. I can identify that. But at this point I feel bad for everybody in my life in one way or another. Whether it be my parents for doing literal god’s work to try and make sure I’m ok, or someone at work that I gave the cold shoulder to. It eats away at me.
I just want to add in how much I appreciate my parents. If I think about it too much it will make me cry. They have gone so above and beyond in making sure I end up ok for so long. I appreciate the opportunities, I appreciate everything that’s been literally handed to me, and I appreciate them trying as hard as they can even when I wasn’t making good decisions or being the best son for them. I did a lot of things that they never deserved and that gets to me really bad. There were times I absolutely should have tried harder out of respect for them and I can definitely see that at my current self. I will never ever ever ever forget what they’ve done for me.
I’ve been isolating myself for so long that it feels like routine or a necessity at this point. I’m so tired of not being able to be social. It effects me so much, adds into the guilt and shame of not being able to handle something that’s so normal for everyone else. I absolutely do not feel the same as everybody. I honestly have no idea how to describe it and it probably sounds so cliche but it’s true, theres something that’s part of me that separates me from everyone else. Not in a good way. It’s like I can’t have the same conversations as everybody else, I can’t have the same sense of humor, it makes me very uncomfortable. That alone makes me upset. I want to be able to feel like I’m not being awkward, I want to feel like I dont smell like shit, I want to feel like the other person enjoys my presence, but in reality I separate myself as fast as I can, and go far out of my way to avoid being in an interaction that may end in me wondering why I’m like that, as well as what the other people are now thinking about me. And it doesn’t go away. It lingers in my head, I uncontrollably will think about it so badly that I have a physical reaction, whether that be like a face tick, me getting nauseous, losing my focus or momentum for the day. It is shameful.
I have a wife now. A wife that I care about and have cared about for a large portion of my life at this point. I love her :(. It feels like no matter what I do I still end up making her upset. I want to be on the same page as her I want to have the same short term goals and priorities while we work up to our long term ones. I want a long happy relationship with this woman. I don’t ever plan on leaving her but I don’t want the way I am to cut things short in one way or another. I dont want anything getting in the way of what we have. I don’t want to forget things I don’t want to misinterpret anything I don’t want to make her upset but it feels like all of my effort gets used elsewhere. It’s not that I’m intentionally not hearing her its not that I’m not trying its not that I’m going out of my way to do things that make her life harder. I desperately want to make her life easier. And I don’t know how to. It feels terrible and I hate having these situations where both of us are upset and we don’t know what to do, don’t know why it happened, and don’t know what to say to each other. It feels absolutely terrible, and is yet another thing that effects me deeply, and will for longer than it should.
I made my best friend move up here from Florida. Made is a strong word, but I definitely pressured him. He’s been here working with me for a few months now and as much as I love it, its another source of guilt. Work has been absolutely brutal, he’s been struggling with not only learning a new product, but also managing learning a entirely new complicated product while being flat rate, a fucking terrible parts department, and the least amount of well-paying work that I’ve seen in my career. As you can maybe assume from reading this far, that stuff gets to me too, and makes me come off a certain way that I do not want to in a bad, embarrassing, shameful way. I love this kid, I really want nothing more than to be his best friend that isn’t a piece of shit. He doesn’t deserve someone not being very easy to get along with sometimes, especially when that person was part of the reason they moved their entire life. Not only is this something that happens at work but its also something that happens when we’re spending time together outside of work. Im too irritable. Too irritable to even enjoy fishing with my best friend. Line gets tangled, stuff gets snagged, knots let go, whatever. None of it is really a big deal. But I let it get to me way too much. I really don’t want to ruin the relationship I have with him, I value it more than most others.
My dog dude. My fuckin dog. I feel so bad for my dog. He’s just a puppy and I’m too hard on him. This is something that I can actively think about and identify. This is something that I want to change on a daily basis. I think we give him an okay life, we love him so much, we send him to daycare we try to do everything he needs but I feel like were kinda letting him down. He’s such a sweetheart , its really hard to write this. I want him to live the life my dogs did while I grew up. I want him to be happy, healthy, and not realize how good he’s got it. Big yard, out in the house while were gone, more freedom for him. I get too frustrated. The things he repeatedly does, that aren’t even really that bad, get to me to the point where I’m cold and essentially just mean to him. I don’t want to be mean to my dog dude. It makes me so upset but I don’t know what to do to fix it with how things are right now. I don’t want to leave him or let him down anymore.
And to make all of this kinda wrap together. This is what is going through my head, essentially every day, whether I recognize it or not. it adds into the small normal everyday annoyances and makes them so much harder to deal with. Quite frankly this is probably only scratching the surface, there’s absolutely no way im able to come up with everything off the top of my head. It all has its place in why I feel the way I do, on top of whatever fucked up brain chemistry I’ve been diagnosed to have. Sorry everyone. I’m trying. I don’t want that to turn into “I tried”, and it scares the fuck out of me, but I would be lying if I said that it doesn’t cross my mind. THAT. Is something I’ve somehow been able to keep to myself for literally like 10-12 years. I tried telling my mom once when I was like 15 or something but it was a stupid scenario and she just thought I was overreacting to something stupid. I don’t blame her. I’m dramatic.
I’m genuinely so so so so so fuckin sorry :(
i want to be a better man.
this was supposed to just be for me to look back at when i need to but i want it to be heard somehow
