RANT Half of r/MadeMeSmile posts are just children and babies

I don’t mind kids, but that's all I get from that sub on home page, and almost all of them are just nothingburger. Even people who love babies sometimes admit that they find their own baby entertaining but don’t really care about other people’s babies. So why do people keep posting regular ass videos of kids on that sub and any similar? Same issue with funny videos subs.

Does anyone have any alternatives to recommend? edit: Mostly human related but pets are fine too

Also on separate thought, I’d probably have a breakdown if I found out that thousands of people had watched videos of me as a baby or kid. Imagine having that kind of digital footprint before you’re even old enough to consent, with no real way to take it back. That shit would haunt me, it already does with the little I done.

RANT SAHM crying on the internet

I just came across a video of a woman crying and yelling at her child because she never gets a break. Her caption is about how she expected to have a village to help watch her child and how it’s so unfair that she has to watch her child all the time. I’m sure it sucks having a kid with you 24/7, that’s why I chose not to! I’m so sick of parents complaining that other people in their lives aren’t helping them enough. They didn’t make that choice, you did (and their lazy ass husbands too)!! And people on Facebook constantly post about how everyone wanted to see their baby but not watch them when they got older… like bro!! People should not have to spend their free time with a child they didn’t bring into the world. The entitlement is so crazy.

RANT If your kids can’t behave in a store, DON’T BRING THEM IN.

I work in retail selling car parts, and this lady came in within the hour before closing and let her two kids run around the store playing tag while she had her husband on a phone call and they tried to figure out with my coworker what car battery she should buy.

Look, I don’t know if the husband was out of town or whatever (though it very much seemed like he wasn’t, based on her saying she needed to take the receipt home “so her husband would believe her”), but either way, wtf is wrong with these parents letting their kids run around like that?! They were at least mid-late elementary school age- old enough to know better or at least listen if a parent said to stop running around (she did say it once, then went back to ignoring the chaos).

I don’t blame the kids as much as I blame those parents. If dad was home, they should’ve been left with him. If not, mom should’ve stopped them from playing a running game in a store!

No, no one else was in the store besides those three, me, and my coworker. But that shouldn’t matter anyway! I don’t want to hear your kids running and yelling- I don’t get paid NEARLY enough for that!

RANT Why is this praised???

These folks had a baby after 20 miscarriages. 20! This is insanity. The actual definition of insanity. I guess it’s cool it “worked out” for them but can you imagine the amount of pressure this poor child will face trying to live up to their expectations/fantasies? The physical and emotional trauma of all those previous losses is not a healthy environment for a child to grow up in. That shit will live in the air. But so many people don’t seem to even consider what kind of psychological impact they might have on their kids, they just “want it” without doing any real checking in with themselves.

Meanwhile, if they genuinely wanted to be parents, they could have taken the very many miscarriages as a hint from the universe and fostered/adopted a child. But no, they just had to have a brand new bio baby. It just really grosses me out. Anyone else?

RANT Im tired of all my friends having babies.

I'm in my 30s and it feels like every week theres another pregnancy announcement and I'm tired of having to be polite about it. The group chat will be talking about how awful the world is and how expensive things are but then don't see an issue about bringing someone else into it. The cognitive dissonance is too much to watch sometimes. I know a lot of people are going to be having kids at this age but sometimes I think seriously? not one of you chose a different path in this life? I don't know whats so different about me that I cannot fathom choosing to have a child. I'm sorry if this came off mean but I'm just exhausted from celebrating the same thing. I do have a small group of childfree friends but a few of them already got to late 30s and panicked then changed their minds and decided to have kids. Of course we now need to listen to how awful it is for them.

RANT Restaurant near empty but yeah sure sit the family with the child that scream talks next to me.

OR...JUST MAYBE sit them on the opposite side of the restaurant. Can't talk in an inside voice. Nope. Had to scream every word. Mother and grandmother at least tried to get them to be quiet but after 5 times saying to talk softer and it's not working...MAYBE TRY something else.

I just got the rest of my food to go and left.

The hostess was great till that moment. I made sure to leave my thoughts on those tablets they leave for payment since they ask about your experience.

RANT “Don’t complain about being tired if you’re not a parent.”

Someone on Threads posted: “I’m sorry but if you’re single and childless, you are not allowed to complain about being tired or too busy. Nope.”

Yeah, big “nope” to that opinion. Most of them chose to be parents. It’s your problem, not mine. And I can complain about anything I like, you self entitled breeder.

RANT Why do parents think that their kid is going to solve climate change or win a Nobel price 🫩

I’ve seen so many parents especially online act like their kids are gonna make a change and justify having them because of that when in reality it would be wayyyy more realistic for them to be unemployed then actually make a real change.
Why do most parents live in a delusion they can’t seem to see they’re in?

Edit: plus they’re all so delusional about the state of the world and things like climate change. It feels like we’re living in idiocracy

RANT I was told by a mom that I didn’t “make it” in teaching because I’m not a mom.

I graduated college years ago and i taught kindergarten for two years. I loved those children and I still do love kids but I never want my own. I am educated, trained and very experienced. This morning while having a casual conversation with my bosses co worker ( I’m a nanny) I told her about how I switched from teaching to nannying because of the dumpster fire education system. I told her all about how horrible it was and how many responsibilities got thrown my way that were not my job. She had the audacity to tell me that “ you can’t be a good teacher if you’re not a mom.No wonder you didn’t make it. Try again when you have a baby!” Many of my best, most memorable teachers were childfree themselves. Is she kidding me? I worked so hard for that degree and spent countless years on end working with kids. Fuck that lady. Cherry on top was she then proceeded to ask me to watch her autistic son while she got some work done. Jeez what a day.

Soo I was just wondering what everyone else is gonna get up to on the old spooky day

BRANT "You'll never be a ream adult", I don't care :D

I know the hate you get being a cf man isn't as bad as being a cf woman (especially coming from men) but it's a different experience I've been thinking about.

You'll get those dudes with a Roman statue pfp telling you things such as "you're a little boy/eternal teenager", "you're not a real adult until you have kids", "you're not a real man until you experience fatherhood", "you'll always be a child until you have a child yourself." When I was a little younger, this used to bother me. And I know it because I used to think "I work 9 hours a day, I study, I pay my taxes, how am I any less of a real adult?". Until I realized, it doesn't matter.

Maybe I am a 24 year old little boy. Why should I care what these people think of me? Why should I care that they look down on me because I decided to not ever have children? They have such a limited world view that it's actually kind of sad to think about. It also helped me realize how performative all of this is, which is likely why so many of these guys are actually terrible fathers. They feel like they have to fit in this role so others don't look down on them, even if they never actually stopped to think if that's the life they wanted to live, and when the kid is there, they leave all the work to the mothers.

And also just the fact that they need to go on the internet to tell people that is so pathetic.

SUPPORT Broke up over indecisiveness on children

I (27F) and my partner (34M) recently broke up after 1.5 years. I am heart broken as I made it crystal clear from my profile (Hinge) and first date that I did not ever want kids and that was something I have known for awhile. He had made it seem like he was okay with it and we proceeded to date, well after we got more serious I kept checking in like "hey are you sure you're okay with this" and I would get verbal confirmation however when I would bring up our childfree future like "we're going to have so much time / money / etc from not having kids" he would shut down. Well his sister had a kid and that added even more confusion to his life, and I encouraged him to seek therapy, read books, etc and figure out what he wanted in life and even said "hey if you realize you want kids we just have to go our separate ways."

I thought we were on the same page as that was what I was repeatedly told, however when I finally scheduled an appointment to get my tubes tied it comes out he was "sad" and when I asked him to get a vasectomy he said he couldn't. I said this is all I need to know. We are not compatible. After 1.5 years of waiting for him to give me absolute 100% certainty he still couldn't. He said seeing his niece gave him feelings he hadn't had before and that threw a wrench in everything and he wishes he could be 100% certain he doesn't want kids but he can't be.

I am heartbroken, disappointed, and feel like I can't trust men moving forward. I directly communicated and checked in to gain the reassurance that I so desperately needed, and yet here I am. I learned my lesson about seeing someone who didn't have the same childfree convictions of me. I am excited to get my tubes out and erase this possibility from my life. I'm disappointed and posting here for support, even though it wasn't like we were married or anything this was someone who I thought I was going to spend my life with but he could not give me the certainty I needed to feel secure in our supposedly childfree future together.

I just don't get it. With a 7 year age gap I thought he would have figured it out by now. I don't understand how people can even look around at the state of the world (I'm in US) and think that it's a good idea to bring a human being into this? Not to mention childbirth/pregnancy is literally body horror and the impacts on the female body are horrific. I think what hurts the most is he's picking this imaginary future over our actual real tangible relationship.

tl,dr: boyfriend couldn't commit to childfree future, split up, very sad

DISCUSSION I am genuinely curious.

Why are people still bringing children into this horrible world? Is it a lack of understanding of the state of the world we live in, or is it the delusion that their child will somehow grow up to be an impactful figure who makes a difference? I genuinely want to understand the reasoning behind it.

RANT I am really starting to hate kids now

I hate the kids in my neighborhood. They’re fucking little assholes. The one behind us one time I was on my swing, minding my own business, and they kept banging on the fence. (in their defense it was their fence. I didn’t know that I do not know how fences work until now.) like heavy duty banging it was two kids. It was only one time thing, but they lied saying they were the bee or something on me and they try to warn me. Now the kids not across the street won’t shut the fuck up they’re outside screaming their heads off playing football and it kills me because there is a giant park three blocks away. I don’t get why they can’t go there and play there cause every day ever since before they go out there and scream their heads off. Kids are now loud, entitled assholes. (babies and toddlers are all right). I don’t get why the whoever’s watching those kids can’t walk a couple blocks to a park and let them scream their head off and they’re doing it where all the neighbors can hear them.

PERSONAL Best friend is broke and has a newborn

This is going to be long so bear with me.

I have been friends with this girl since high school. We are in our mid 30’s now. She has always been lazy and unmotivated despite growing up in a wealthy area, nice house, attending the best schools, and having a responsible and respected family.

She dropped out of college her first year and got a waitress job. And never progressed.

I remained her friend through all these years bc something deep down believed she would wake up one day and do better. But it is clear now that will never happen.

Fast forward she shacks up with her boyfriend, a bartender with no degree and similarly no ambition. Admittedly he is a very friendly and kind person. However I did not like him at first because I learned they got together after he cheated on his live-in girlfriend of 10 years to sleep with friend. Friend continued to pursue him and then they were a couple.

After years of dating and living together in a tiny and really crappy apartment, I noticed friend was pressuring him for marriage. He didn’t budge and seemed to get noticeably uncomfortable when she would bring it up.

Shortly after, I learned from friend that bf apparently had been job hopping because well… he had a cocaine problem.. I had no idea. She tells me he had been gone on a bender for 3 days straight with no communication with her. She even filed a missing persons report because of how worried it made her.

Well, friend finally admits this issue to me months after the fact and her parents and family had the obvious reaction - leave him. He’s a nice guy but a drug problem is no joke. And it turns out he lied to her about getting fired from one of his jobs and even went so far as to pretend he went to work one day when he already was gone… crazy immature stuff.

After the drug problem came to light, I noticed she was wrestling with the idea of ending things with him. A few months later she was pregnant. Her parents were clearly unhappy and she would complain to me about it. It was hard to stay quiet myself because I was similarly disappointed and honestly very surprised. She always said she didn’t like kids and didn’t want them.

It seemed clear she had baby trapped her bf due to relationship troubles and his dragging his feet on marriage. The whole pregnancy friend behaved oddly. She kept saying how weird the whole thing was, how it was embarrassing because they weren’t married, etc. just had zero excitement or pride. It made me very nervous for the baby.

Well now the baby has been born and things are worse than ever. They are now out of their apartment, as they were denied an application at a better place, most likely from having bad credit (they have been naive in the past and fell for loan shark scams etc). They are couch surfing at her parent’s house. And it looks awful. Her parents are not helping her with the baby (I don’t blame them). And they are sharing a couch in the den.

Neither of them seem to comprehend the gravity of the situation and just how pathetic it is and awful it will be for their son.

I am seriously considering ending my friendship after this. I can no longer justify her bad decisions because there is now a child involved.

RANT Social media rant

All i see is babies, baby showers or gender reveals. Every month that passes has to mean a photoshoot for the baby. I used to see milestones, creative projects, personal achievements. And I wont even begin about how unsafe it is to post your children online.

Nonetheless, these posts get an outpour of comments from aunts, grandmas, extended family as if this is the biggest achievement in life. Meanwhile, someone can do solo travel and genuinely enjoy their income and youth and that doesn’t get noticed at all. Not bragging or begging for attention just putting it in perspective.

RANT Why can't my mother just accept the fact that I'm not having kids?

I know I'm young, but I am not going to have kids: it's not a "milestone" that people have to reach and it's a very big responsability and sacrifice that takes a toll on you.

Parenting can be quite gross: kids get sick, throw up, shit and piss themselves, and cleaning them is gross, plus the whole concept of pregnancy itself(the fact that there is a HUMAN growing inside you creeps me out) and the fact that it ruins your body(you either have surgery or tear your vagina) is a price to high to pay to have a kid.

Anyways, I have shared these thoughts with my mother, who treated my choice as some sort of phase or some other bullshit.

She told me she wants to be a grandma, that if I don't want to be a mom I can just give birth to the child and then give it to her or, probably the worst one, that "intelligent people have the moral duty to have children".

I don't understand how people treat parenthood and having kids as the greatest joy in life, you can be fulfilled even without having a child! Your life won't be less complete just because you don't have a baby!

Just needed to vent.

BRANT i never understood the “who’s going to take care of you when you’re old?”

i never understood the idea that your kids are supposed to become your caregiver just because they’re your children.

no regard for their personal lives or where they decide to live one day? just surrender everything & give you baths until you die?

i’d rather admit myself to a retirement home or actually hire help than become that type of burden.

RANT Being at Disney World is the best birth control ever

My family and I went to Magic Kingdom yesterday, and holy shit, literally EVERY single parent I saw there looked miserable as fuck. They all looked so tired, exhausted, and completely haggard, and their facial expressions looked like they’d rather be dead or anywhere else than at Disney World with their kids. Throughout the day, I saw various women wearing those Disney shirts that say “Happiest Mama on Earth”, but their facial expressions reflected the exact opposite. Not to mention all the fucking kids throughout the day screaming and crying and throwing tantrums and ruining the experience for everybody else around them. And funny enough, all the couples I saw without kids looked the happiest, smiling and laughing and genuinely enjoying themselves and having fun, like you should be at Disney World. And people will still say having kids is so worth it, yeah, yesterday at Magic Kingdom proved that false approximately 5,872 times lmao.

RANT Why do parents insist on traveling with sick children?!

Two weeks ago I found myself waiting for my connecting flight. The gate area was nearly full, and I spotted a family of four - two adults and two children under five. One of the kids had that unmistakable sick kid cough (you know the kind.. very fluid forward, mouth not covered, etc.). I remember silently willing them not to be seated near me on the flight so that I didn’t catch whatever illness they packed with their child.

As luck would have it, said family was seated in the row behind me. In addition to kicking my seat for the duration of the five and a half hour flight, they bestowed the gift of the flu upon me.

This is the worst flu I’ve ever had. I’ve been to the doctor twice and have been down with it for nearly two weeks. My fiancé is sick with it, and we’ve been home bound since getting sick (exceptions being doctor and pharmacy trips).

Why on earth do parents insist on bringing sick children on planes with them? That unbridled, uncovered coughing spreads germs to everyone within a ten-row radius, and the rest of us never agreed to share them. I get that travel plans are expensive and rebooking is a hassle, but a little effort to contain it would have gone a long way. So I'm genuinely asking: what's the thinking here?

RANT Children make me angry like nothing else.

I just had to change when a family with two kids came in. They sounded well over the age of being able to speak properly but one of them could only communicate in "I don't care" and "it doesn't matter" and the other one made distressed animal grunting noises the whole time through.

This shit must have taken 20 minutes in which I was too busy suppressing my own outbursts and trying not to have a heart attack from how angry listening to these barely sentient shit stains made me.

I now hear children loudly crying from the inside of the gym through soundproof walls and lord help me, I dont trust myself to go inside and then walk out without a prison sentence. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED? TAKE THE ABOMINATIONS BACK HOME AND MAKE THEM ACT THEIR AGE FOR FUCKS SAKE!

RANT first experience of friends with a baby fading away

so I've been on this sub for a while, and so I've read about how friends with babies can sort of check out of the friendship when they become focused on the child.

buttttt I never expected it to hit so hard. I spent some time recently with friends who had a baby. I spent time with each parent separately on different days. And it just felt so much like they didn't care. I wasn't really asked anything at all about my life (and I've got some serious shit going on) and they just seemed so drained and distant. I was making all the conversation, and we mostly ended up talking about their kid.

Like, I get it. It must be so SO hard being a parent. But it just hits so hard feeling like you've lost a friendship that used to be so meaningful and fulfilling. It's really sad. Is that it now?

I'm going to my first child-free meet up soon to hopefully build a bigger community. Wish me luck.

DISCUSSION Instructor is bragging to the class about their favorite child

The Golden child no contest over 3 kids. He won't stop.

Yes everyone knows parents play favorites and have favorites. We don't care.

Poor siblings or least favorites who openly have issues from being treated differently. My condolences or whatever.

Not my problem. Im not shamelessly causing trauma and piting family against eachother.
