How often do “obvious” touchdowns actually end up getting called back?

Kind of a random question, but for people who watch a ton of football:

How often does a touchdown that looks completely obvious in real time end up getting taken off the board?

I don’t mean plays where the receiver is right on the sideline, a flag thrown during the play, a receiver juggling the ball going to the ground, etc.

I mean like the ones where you see the play and immediately think 100% a TD, clear possession, clearly in the end zone, and then somehow it gets overturned or called back.

Is there any reason the typical broadcast angle is used in football is preferred?

I’ve always had trouble trying to look at what offensive/defensive personnel and formation is being used with an angle to the side. I feel like taking the angle traditionally used in film breakdowns would make understanding the game much easier for a number of fans

Some football commentators seem to be obsessed with betting odds and lines. Are they paid to do this to encourage gambling?

I made a free daily game to help understand late-game decisions (why coaches kick, go for it, or throw it up)

When I started watching, the part I understood least was the end of close games. Why kick there? Why not just run it? Why did everyone yell when he stayed in bounds?

So I built a small game around exactly those moments. Each day you get one real-feeling situation, and each option comes with the trade-off spelled out.

Today’s: down 3, 8 seconds left, at their 38, no timeouts, 20 mph wind in your face.

  • No timeouts means a tackle in bounds ends the game.
  • Getting out of bounds stops the clock, so a short sideline throw can set up a closer field goal.
  • The wind makes both a long kick and a deep throw harder.

What would you do?

Try it and see how others called it: https://dailycall.app/?call=f47a9812-3e21-49b2-a8c9-0218f4a13d98&utm_source=reddit

Let me know if this helps :)

Running “Downhill”?

What does the announcer mean when they say something like “he’s excellent at running downhill”?
