I have a question.
Dallas, over its history, has annexed many smaller neighboring cities—East Dallas, Renner, Oak Cliff, to name a few.
Well, I recently learned that from time to time, movements pop up for some of these areas to de-annex. Apparently, in the late '80s to early '90s, Oak Cliff separatism got pretty big but ultimately never happened.
But I'm wondering why the hell Cockrell Hill still exists. 3,600 or so people, it's like ten square blocks...
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but what's the damn point? It's not like a Highland Park or something where they have some specific reason to be separated (history, segregation, wealth, school districts, geographic identity, etc.)
Is there a reason they haven't given up and just joined Dallas already?

Looking for some libraries in the North Dallas or up to the McKinney area that have booth or personal seating. I know Frisco library has some good options but it’s a little too busy for me. Allen public library is also great, just looking for more options. TIA

I’ve seen them around a few times in oak cliff. Always a joy to see.

Currently live in Dallas. Have nothing planned on thanksgiving weekend currently. Happy to solo travel but would love any recommendations. I have Austin on my list but I worry that it might be dead during Thanksgiving (perhaps like most other places)? I do not have to go on Thanksgiving day. Happy to go on the Friday through Sunday weekend. Welcome any other suggestions for travel destinations.

Is there a way to dispose large items like furnitures, appliances, and etc, preferably free? I live in an apartment, and the area is Lewisville.

I was wondering if anyone knows about a good activity or event to go for a date night? I know there’s a bunch of parties in Dallas but my wife and I are looking for more laid back things to do while wearing costumes.
Something like rooftop movies, chill festivals, etc.
Any help is appreciated!

It's basically a wood burning stove but instead of free standing It's inserted into your fireplace and you can open the door and add wood.
Just curious if anyone has used a certain company and has experience in this.

Does anyone know what the appetizer was at the original Sushi on McKinney? It was bean sprouts in a vinegary/soy saucy brine. Would love to know if anyone knows a recipe or what it’s called.
I was obsessed with it as a kid.

The DFW metroplex has around 8 million people and is one of the largest metro areas in the country, yet sometimes it feels like Dallas is an afterthought when it comes to pop culture, major entertainment events, and things that get the rest of the country talking.
It feels like whenever something big happens, whether it’s a cultural moment, a huge entertainment opening, a new attraction, or something that blows up on social media, the conversation is almost always centered around New York, LA, Miami, or Chicago. Dallas rarely seems to be part of that conversation, even though the metroplex is massive.
I’m not saying there’s nothing to do here. We have sports, concerts, restaurants, nightlife, and plenty of things going on. But there’s a difference between having things to do locally and being a city that actually drives culture, attracts major events, and stays relevant in the national conversation.
Why does Dallas feel like it has so little cultural momentum compared to other major cities, especially considering how big the metroplex is? Is it because the city is so spread out, because there’s no real central identity, or because the entertainment industry and media are concentrated elsewhere? Or am I just not paying enough attention to what’s happening here?

Are there any good haunted trails in the metroplex this year? Like a haunted house but you walk along a trail through the woods.
Barring that, I'd take recommendations for a regular haunted house. We did Dark Hour already this year and it was great as usual.
