GBPackers Fan guest

Hi all, my sister who is a staunch, loyal packers fan is coming today to help take care of me after several surgeries this next week. We have had a healthy rivalry between my Cowboys and her Packers.
I know Benders used to have a strong packer fan base on game days. Is that still the case? If not, are there other locations in the Richardson area where Packer Fans congregate???
It is her first time in Texas and I want her to feel the love, especially since she is taking time out of her busy schedule to help me out.

Plumber Recs?

Have pricing from two plumbers; both in the same ballpark per square foot. Should I keep getting bids or am I chasing ghosts looking for a price that doesn’t exist? This is to replace all cast iron sewer pipes. Any thoughts or local recs are welcome. Thx

Roaches in Apartment in Richardson

So I just moved to the north Dallas area, specifically Richardson, and my apartment has German cockroaches. This is a new build “luxury” apartment complex and it was very clean when I first moved in a couple of weeks ago but now I’m noticing roach activity.

Is this normal for apartments in DFW should I just expect this? I know they are notoriously difficult to get rid of, I’ve already requested pest control at my complex but they aren’t able to come for another week :/

Richardson homeowners: what do you wish you’d known before your last HVAC repair or replacement?

What frustrates you most about your HVAC system, and what do you wish you had known before making a call on a repair or replacement? I’m also curious how you like to get that kind of info.

Some context on why I’m asking. After years of doing SEO for home services companies, I kept seeing the same problems with HVAC info in Richardson.

  1. Very few sites use Richardson-specific data. Most pull costs from national averages or a single vendor.
  2. The sites that do offer local info are usually owned by one HVAC company that funnels leads back to itself. They aren’t shady about it. It’s right on their about page.
  3. HVAC is complicated, and without good resources a lot of homeowners overspend or pick the wrong tech.

About three weeks ago I started building an independent resource for Richardson homeowners to fix that. I’m not affiliated with any HVAC company. The research has been a lot of phone calls vetting local companies, reading what people say about them online, and walking neighborhoods. People usually assume I’m selling something. I’m not.

One person in this sub pointed me to an HVAC tech, and we’ve had some good early conversations about him getting involved. Happy to share the site if anyone wants it.

Drop your thoughts below.

Hey yall this is a bit of a long shot but does anyone here either work at the Richardson ESA or know someone who does? I stayed there last week for one night and I'm 99% sure i left my childhood stuffed animal there. Called them and they said they found nothing but I don't even know if they KNOW what they're looking for. Ive looked through all of my stuff multiple times and I cant find it. It's a red and black lady bug microbead pillow, if I can get ahold of someone who works there to make sure its not there that would help alot. Or if someone wants to go there and show them this picture idk.. I'm desperate at this point I've had that thing for 20 years 😭 I would take my butt up there but I am 8 hrs away in MS.

Looking for a boba place in Richardson that has sago as a topping since I don’t want to commit to the drive to go to Frisco for a taro milk tea with sago. I appreciate any suggestions, and TIA!

Canyon Creek Playground

Just came from this fun little park. We go almost every weekend because of the little “race track.” I was so sad and disappointed seeing how trashed it was tonight. Chip bags, wipes, empty water bottles all over the place. We picked up what was left of the litter before we left but jeez friendly reminder to clean up after yourselves people and teach kids to be responsible for their messes. It’s a public place for all families to enjoy.

Top 10 HVAC Richardson HVAC Companies Based On Google Reviews

I’m building a full HVAC resource hub for Richardson. Too many home service websites rely on national or statewide cost data, with little information that’s genuinely local and useful to homeowners. I’ve been working to collect data from Richardson residents while publishing other helpful resources along the way. One of my first pieces is now live: a look at top HVAC companies based on Google reviews at richardsontxhvachub.com. It’s the first step toward a broader rating that will dig into the details Richardson residents actually want to know. Let me know what you think!

Edit for massive spelling errors.

My partner and I will be moving to Richardson soon and we're looking for a good groomer for our two doodles. Ideally, a decent groomer that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Slow Down and Think

Friday, September 25, my wife and I spent all day with her dying father. We went home to get a little rest, but we got a call around 10:00 pm that he had taken a turn and he probably didn't have much time left.

We got dressed, left our house, and drove north on Yale Boulevard. It's a two lane road with a median in the middle and bike lanes on either side. The speed limit is 30 MPH.

As we were driving, I saw in my rear view mirror a car flying down the street, probably traveling at least 50 MPH, but probably more. Then I saw him shift to the right to attempt to pass us in the bike lane.

I swerved to the left, into the oncoming lanes of traffic (fortunately, at this hour there was no one coming the opposite direction). It's because of me that we didn't have a catastrophic accident.

After I regained my composure, I began driving again, and we ended up at the light at Arapaho next to the two young men in the white BMW with the light kit and the belief that they are invincible.

I exchanged words with them, something I never do, and then the light changed and we parted ways. My father-in-law died about an hour later, and we buried him today.

So my message to you - slow down and be kind. This is a neighborhood. Kids live here. Squirrels and possums live here. People walk their dogs here. People ride bikes here. The person you kill with your testosterone-fueled nihilism could be your parent, your sibling, your friend. Or it could be a couple you don't even know who is driving to the bedside of a dying family member.

It could even be you who is lowered into the ground after a stupid decision to drive like no one else matters. It could be your family rushing to be by your side as you take your last breath.

Slow down. Be kind. Love the people you see, whether you know them or not. We are all in this together and we have to take care of each other. That is what community is all about. If you don't get this, then go somewhere else. We deserve a safe and caring community.
