Why Won't the City of Denton Relocate a Dumpster Away From Residential Homes?
We are Denton homeowners whose property borders the Denton State Supported Living Center (formerly Denton State School).
We have repeatedly reported suspected nighttime rat activity along the fence separating our property from the facility.
On October 15, 2026, the City's Solid Waste department inspected a dumpster located near our residential property. The inspection confirmed that the dumpster's side-access doors were open, yet the City concluded that the reported rodent activity was unrelated to the dumpster and that no further action was necessary.
We have already incurred approximately $2,500 in extermination expenses and have contacted City officials and Texas state agencies requesting further investigation.
Our primary request is simple: Move the dumpster farther away from neighboring homes.
We are not claiming to have conclusively established where the rodents originate. We are asking the City to seriously evaluate relocation instead of dismissing the concern.
Have other Denton residents experienced similar problems involving dumpsters or rodent activity near residential properties?
We would appreciate hearing about your experiences.
