Hey y'all, I moved here a few months ago for my grad program and I'm having a hard time making friends/finding a community space. Most of the people in my cohort commute so it's hard to build connections, and I've been putting myself out there, but am struggling to find people to connect with, especially people in their late 20s/30s! Part of this is probably social anxiety, but I'm putting more feelers out anyway, lol. I have friends and family in DFW, just not really in Denton.
(Yes, I know this is a very common post and here I am anyway)
More about me:
- 28F, working on my masters in social work, work from home. Would love to find a WFH or study buddy if anyone needs some body doubling :)
- I love art, live music, food, being outdoors (kayaking/hiking etc), herbalism, writing, cozy video games, traveling when I can, meditation, yoga, reading, crochet (and anything crafty, tbh), climbing (even though I am not great at it)
- Spiritual agnostic-ish but interested in Buddhism/mysticism, left-leaning, bi, enjoy people who are grounded, kind, and thoughtful. Drier sense of humor, not the kind of person to text all day every day.
- I've checked out UU Denton, meditation classes, and a few churches, none have felt like my cup of tea. Meetup doesn't really seem to have anything. Dating apps....not cutting it.
- have considered getting into some volunteer work (community garden, perhaps?) but unsure where to start. I've also considered doing social dancing like salsa but I am intimidated!
- I've been to Movement a few times and am considering a membership there, but I'm pretty abysmal at climbing lol (would still be down to connect with other climbers)
Consistency is the biggest thing I'm looking for, honestly - I really would like some external structure since my school stuff is very self-paced and I WFH most days!
Anywho if you think we'd connect or have ideas on groups, etc, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks :)
