Former McKinney mayor challenges recall petition as city staff review signatures

Our Lilly Kersh reports:

With 7,400 signatures submitted to McKinney last month on a petition for a City Council recall election, all that’s left to do is wait.

The city secretary is tasked with combing through hundreds of pages signed in library parking lots, on front porches and through car windows to validate if organizers successfully gathered the roughly 5,800 signatures from registered McKinney voters needed to trigger an election against four council members. The process, which began in late September, could take weeks.

But former McKinney Mayor George Fuller is challenging the effort before the city secretary brings results of the review to the City Council.

Hair Salon Recommendations - Women’s Cuts

Just got my hair cut into a bob today, but not very happy with the outcome. It feels a little uneven and choppy. Haircut was at the same salon I’ve been going to for 3 years, but it was a different person this time since I only got a cut and didn’t want to do color. I’ve been less and less impressed with this salon each time I go.

Any salon recommendations for women’s short hair cuts? I want to find a salon that I feel comfortable going back to each time. Really hoping to see one stylist that can nail a shorter haircut.

Thanks!

CEO details major investment at Metroplex's new commercial airport

McKinney's commercial aviation plans are attracting business attention as the city considers the airport's future role in North Texas.

A commercial airport serving the northern suburbs could influence regional travel options, business activity, and transportation patterns across the Metroplex.

For residents in McKinney, Frisco, Allen, and nearby communities, would a more accessible commercial airport be useful for your travel needs? What concerns would you have about noise, traffic, or surrounding development?

Recent (positive) experience I had with a local plumbing company..

Last Friday I noticed my 20-year-old water heater was having issues. I suspected the recirculating pump. I called this company, and a few other local companies. The one I ended up working with was available same-day, so I ultimately went with them. I told them beforehand that I was looking for a recirculating pump with the full explanation as to why I wanted to go that route. I was OPEN to being corrected after inspection but no way in hell would I trust it at first. Whenever someone gives you a replacement quote, try to get multiple. And if you have a family member who knows things it can be helpful to have an advocate in your corner.

He showed up on time and was a nice guy. I do own a big house, so contractors usually see dollar signs. Lowest quote was for replacing the recirculating pump which is exactly what I asked for (w/ added warranty), one was for replacing with new tank water heater, last choice was going tankless. Once again, my water heater is 20 years old, so I don't feel like the replacement options were scammy at all to mention. When I went with just the recirculating pump there was no sigh, nothing to make me feel less than. Got that part swapped out right away and water is flowing perfectly to temperature must faster.

Basically, they did what they said they would do. I do not feel like I was overcharged, lied to, or pressured. Better than when I lived in FL. TX hospitality is nice

***EDIT***

I didn't even realize, didn't mention company name! Pounce Plumbing

Visiting Melissa/McKinney, TX for 15–20 days — looking for daily pickleball open play!

Hey everyone!

I’m staying in Melissa, TX (near McKinney) and looking to play pickleball almost daily for the next 15–20 days.
I’ll be coming alone, so I’m particularly interested in:
Free or affordable open play where I can join without a partner.
Indoor clubs offering short-term memberships or affordable drop-in sessions.
Competitive players or groups I could join for regular practice.
Recommendations around Melissa, McKinney, Allen, Frisco, or nearby areas.

One more question about The Picklr: I noticed they offer a $30 trial for 15 days, but apparently it’s restricted to local residents. Since I’m visiting as a tourist and staying with a local friend, is there any way to qualify for the trial? Has anyone had experience with this?
My main goal is to get quality practice and competitive games without spending hundreds of dollars on a membership I’ll only use for a few weeks.
Would really appreciate any recommendations, group invites, or connections with local players.
Thanks in advance! 🏓

Are there any Dallas-area contractors who would be willing to help me get a contractor discount at Sherwin-Williams?

Hi everyone! Are there any Dallas-area contractors who would be willing to help me get a contractor discount at Sherwin-Williams?
I’m a single mom currently going through a divorce and trying to repaint my home on a budget. I honestly didn’t realize how expensive paint has become! I stopped by Sherwin-Williams today, and one of the employees suggested ordering through a contractor to get better pricing.
I would be incredibly grateful if anyone would be willing to help me out or point me in the right direction. I’m purchasing the paint myself and just hoping to save a little where I can.
Thank you so much in advance! ❤️

What in the world is taking it so long to open? It’s been fully built with signs up and lights on since August. We’re now almost halfway through October.

Anyone else see that 10 year old being arrested just now in the median of McKinney Ranch in between Hardin and Lake Forest?

He seemed like he was fighting back against the police officer and there were two adults (I'm guessing parents) that seemed really bored. The adults were well dressed and the kid was in street clothes. Anyone knows what's going on with that? Thanks.

Looking for a new hairdresser

Heyy looking for someone around here (I don’t mind driving out of mckinney) that can do alternative/vivid color services. I just want some chunky red and black highlights but I can’t seem to find anyone good in a decent price range. My hair dresser now is super affordable ($180-200 for both a cut and color) but I’ve had a couple issues with so I’m looking to see if I can find anyone better. TYSM!

Leaf Cafe

I just learned that my favorite coffee shop in the area, Leaf Cafe on McDonald & Lamar is closing down at the end of this month. If you're a fan or occasional visitor, you might want to take the chance to visit one final time. Last day is Halloween.

(I hope this doesn't class as a direct promotion, I'm an occasional customer, nothing to do with the business. It has been motivational for my daily walk.)

Best Neighborhood for Halloween?

I'm looking for a neighborhood or area that will do Halloween, trick or treating, and all of that sort of thing right. For the last few years, we've tried in our neighborhood and street- set up a big screen in the yard playing old Halloween cartoons and movies, with a fire pit, candy baskets, decorations, and all of that sort of thing but it seems like no one else really is interested or cares, and we've kinda lost our motivation to keep trying. Our youngest has been really wanting an "old-school" halloween experience, so I'm wondering if there's any areas here that have things like this on Halloween night. Oh, and also, can we come?? 🙏🙏🙏

Why are we destroying the limited number of shady trees we have?? - Bonnie Wenk Park

I saw this today at Bonnie Wenk park. They were trimming these trees down that did not need to be trimmed. I was just there yesterday and did not notice any low hanging limbs. Why are we doing this after triple digit record heat this summer?? Make it make sense!!!
