[Schefter] After consultations with numerous doctors and experts that went into Saturday, the Eagles are placing quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, sources tell
threads.comOkay, I thought this was delusional talk for the past month but with this news, it is a “non-zero” chance that Washington can win the division this year.
IF
And this is a huge “IF”
They get their shit together. And I do not have a lot of faith in them being able to do that.

Am I delusional for thinking we will beat San Fran?
Football is a game of matchups. One team’s players against the other team’s players.
Our corners have struggled all year at covering wide receivers, and have given up a ton of big plays. The 49ers enter this week without Deebo Samuel and likely Mike Evans. Other injured receivers include: Christian Kirk, Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Xhaun Stribling. Their receiver corps this week will be made up of Brandon Cooks, a bunch of third stringers, and George Kittle. Maybe Brock Purdy and Shanahan can pick apart a defense even with such a lackluster group of pass catchers, but I simply don’t expect the same mismatches we’ve seen through 5 games to materialize.
Christian McCaffrey obviously presents big threat, but in 2026 he has yet to record a rush of 20+ yards, has been limited to about 12 total carries per game, and will be facing a Commanders run defense that currently ranks eighth in total yards allowed. Am I crazy to think we can keep him relatively under control?
Meanwhile, the 49ers defense will likely be without both Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams off the edge, and Dre Greenlaw will still be serving his suspension. Bill Croskey Merritt is going to be out, but I’m not sure that’s quite as important as it might seem. Throughout the past three years, it hasn’t felt super important to me which running back is playing, because Jayden presents such a big rushing threat that it opens everything up for whichever running back is out there. We’re currently sixth in rushing by offense, at 140 yards per game, so even if you subtract all 47 that Bill has been giving us, we’d still expect more than 90 yards. With McNichols returning to face a beat up 49ers front seven, I think that number could end up being a lot higher.
That leaves our passing offense (ranked #24 in the league) against the 49ers passing defense (ranked #8 in the league). This is definitely one of the more questionable matchups for us. However, it’s the first time since half time of Week 2 that Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Stefon Diggs are all expected to play. I’m not sure this injured 49ers front will be able to get to the quarterback, and I can’t help but like the matchups McLaurin and Diggs will have against Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green.
Is this all cope and delusion, or do you think the Commanders could actually pull off the upset?

The 2026 Commanders Experience
Is there a reason this keeps happening? Good first quarter, let them catch up in the second quarter, give up a slight but not daunting lead in the third quarter, then give up completely in the fourth quarter. Is it a lack of adjustments? A tired defense? A predictable offense? Why do we do this every game?

My FB memories brought up this interesting stat from 2017.
I thought this was particularly impressive considering I don't even remember Chris Thompson.

Question about officiating
I was listening to Kevin Sheehan and he was talking about how he suspects the league has been in touch with DQ about a couple calls that were incorrect (like the call that reversed Amik’s interception). Does anything happen when game changing bad calls are made and they actually admit it afterwards? Does anything happen to the refs?

What Washington QB do you think had the best arm talent?
Not the best QB but arm strength. I think Grossman, RG3, Jeff George would probably be up there.

Paying Terry was a horrible mistake
Dude hasn’t had a 100 yard receiving game in two years. Hasn’t done anything to win us games since he got paid. It’s Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen all over again. They get their bag of money and become irrelevant
