PPF/3M for my STi

I recently purchased this 2013 STi beauty, which doesn’t seem to have any sort of protection on it already (would the dealership have removed it to try and make an up-sale?)..

Any recommendations what wrap is best and the necessary coverage areas?

I am in Edmonton, AB, so bonus points if you can also recommend a good shop 🤍✨

Buying Advice Replacement Vehicle Advice (Used Forester, Outback, or Crosstrek)

Howdy!

Had a 2023 Crosstrek Sport get totaled recently and I've been looking into a replacement as I await insurance payout. I had a lift kit, Sparco wheels, etc on mine and it was in a unique color way but I only have 3 days to decide as that's all I have left for my rental. For context, I live in North Idaho in a snow pocket, work in the field quite frequently, and have a weekend job at a ski resort.

Option 1: 2024 Forester Sport, 40k miles. $24k

Has the adjustable seats, upgraded version of the Eyesight HUD, all weather package, Harmon-Kardon speakers, and a skid plate. White with the sport accents.

Option 2: 2023 Outback Onyx, 30k miles. $26k

Kinda fancy, but I've grown used to how short my Crosstrek is and for that reason I kinda prefer the Forester, but I love the color way and has a ton of real nice features (vinyl, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, etc).

Option 3: 2026 Crosstrek Premium, 4k miles. $26k.

Semi-custom weird model since it was a built-to-order by the dealership to be used for staff and as a rental. Has OP14 package, basically all the optional packages (auto dim mirror, blind spot, remote start, wireless charging, etc) and what really perplexes me (and why it's semi-custom) is that it has the Harmon-Kardon audio package. The only downside I hate to it is the interior color way is the grey style and the exterior is pearl white. Unlike the Forester Sport which has those nice accent colors, it looks very fleet car-y to me (which it was). 2.0 NA is also slow. Nvm has the 2.5l as well.

Option 4: 2026 Crosstrek Sport, 6k miles. $27.7k.

Black, looks good, but interior package other than aesthetics is a downgrade to the above Crosstrek. Manual seats, albeit still has the deicing system and heated seats. Comes with a skid plate and a lift as well, and all-weather lining. I love the look of it and reminds me of the baby I lost, but it's the most expensive of the bunch and least equipped. But I'm wondering if it'd hold the most value.

Kind of at an impasse, I like all of them, Outback the least but I do haul a ton of equipment and the extra space would be killer. Also drives like a cozy boat and I am in love with the green colorway.

Idk, choice paralysis. Send help. I'd eventually get another lift kit and Sparco wheels for it given what I do, but for the time being I'll just leave them as-is, which going from quite a unique red lifted Crosstrek Sport to a boring (albeit fantastically equipped) white Premium makes me a bit sad.

Help identifying bracket

Okay, so I've got an 05 sti transmission to go in my car, but there is a bracket on it that I'm confused about. It wasn't on the transmission that came out, and I haven't had any luck searching for this bracket. Does anyone know what this bracket is or what it's used for?

How to Replace Lost Engine Starter Fob?

We were out of state for our kiddo's cross country meet, and realized we probably lost one of our remote engine starter fobs running around the fields 😬. What's the best way to get the fob replaced? We have both car keys and one starter fob. We're bummed since we just got the Subie this month. 😭

Buying Advice New England dealership recommendations for the 10yr/100k warranty.

Got a new Crosstrek for a good price, however the finance part of the sales was unfortunate. (High pressure tactics for a $5,000 10yr/100k warranty…!like needing to sign today, and can’t get the 10year/100k unless I sign today… a bunch of lies and it was awful). I knew that was way overpriced, so just need recommendations.

I know any Subaru dealership can sell this warranty as long as it’s within the 3yr/36k warranty, so if anyone has recommendations for the New England region, please let me know.

Mechanical Help 2026 forester still smoking

Thumbnail

I feel like I’m losing my mind. I posted recently about how my brand new 2026 Forester was smoking about a week after I purchased it. Well, I brought it in to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong with it - but I’ve still been noticing smoke sometimes and almost always a burnt rubber like smell from the engine.
I pop the hood and haven’t noticed anything until yesterday/today. There is an obvious brown fluid leak - not only do I see it but I can hear it. Side note, also noticed some electrical tape just loosely placed or hanging off in some spots and a possibly burnt plug. I will post pictures of that along with the texts from the salesperson at the dealership who sold me the car. Interesting he said it was the compressor because these pictures are from when I noticed the leak which was after a drive and the ac was off the entire time - this also does not look like water to me. It now has 1,200 miles on it. Any suggestions?

I have health conditions and was so looking forward to having a car that I don’t have to worry about :(

Service history on private purchase

I just picked up a 2018 impreza base model with 5spd. for my 17 son (his car, he bought it) wondering if there is an easy way to get the service history on it?? I looked up all the recalls on it and found they were all done, but it has 10 service records on its carfax and I would like to know what was done to it in its 94k mile history. it shows signs of front and rear damage and a probable drivers door replacement. got it for a great price and should be good for a first winter vehicle in new england (and commuter for him to college next few years)

Update: just called the dealer it was originally purchased from and they had the records and informed me they do NOT in fact maintain a national record of service history. they would not give me a copy of the vehicles service history but they could tell me what they did and recommended... which wasn't a lot. some brakes and recommendations on things that were all declined. and the 60k, 90k service were declined so I need to do the plugs and front/rear diff fluids.

Buying Advice 2016 Subaru Forester Limited

Looking at buying this car from someone. It looks pretty good and needing a better car before winter hits. It's at 102k miles and they're wanting 11.8k for it. Transmission fluid and battery changed at 86k, tires and oil usually rotated/changed every 5 of 6k miles. With wild peak mud snow tires with just under 20k miles on them. Is this a good car for bad winters and mud. Good safety wise and for kids? Should I go through with this one?

Mechanical Help Shock mounts breaking fast

I replaced the shocks about 18 months ago on my 2015 Forester - OEM. Since then, I've had to replace the front shock mounts every six months. I'm not convinced this is due only to poor quality of the mounts, but am not mechanically inclined enough to assess it myself. What areas should I get the mechanics to look at.

iPhone 18 Pro issue with CarPlay on Crosstrek

I have a '21 Crosstrek. My iPhone 15 Pro worked flawlessly with it. Just upgraded to 18 Pro. The phone and the car both say bluetooth is connected successfully. The CarPlay icon stays grayed out. I've done resets on the entertainment system. Did a bunch of Googling, but all the threads seem focused on getting it to connect, which mine says it already is. Suggestions on direction?

2010 Forester advice

We have a 2010 Forester XT Limited, now at 150k miles. Bought it new and now my kid is learning to drive on it. It's been a great car and we definitely have emotional attachments, lol. About a year and a half ago, the head gasket blew, and while it was being replaced, they found out the engine block was cracked, so we repaired that as well (all at the dealer and at considerable cost; maybe was dumb to do). Still the original turbo. We've done all the regular maintenance things, and know the wear and tear items will continue to come up as part of ownership.

Would you give this car to your teenager as a first car? Spouse is ready for a newer car, and we are in a good financial position. We are considering getting the teen something pre owned, but lower maintenance as well as cheaper insurance (insurance for a teen is already high, but the turbo engine makes them count this as a sports car).

If we sold it would we get anything worthy for it given the recent engine rebuild (maybe 10k miles on it since) we did? I figure this car has a lot of life left in her still but maybe it's not quite right for us at the moment anymore.

60k Maintenance Quote

2019 Subaru Impreza Sport Hatchback around 65K miles.

Hello! I am the least mechanically savvy person so I was wanting opinions on if these prices are fair? To me it’s seems steep, even when you include an oil change. Granted this is in Phoenix Arizona (already an expensive place) so I don’t expect it to be cheap obviously.

if this isn’t the place to ask then I can delete the post, thanks!

EDIT: I know I can do the filters at home so scratch those off the quote. $1260 TOTAL.

2002 Subaru Questions

I'm planning to sell a car I inherited from my mom, who also inherited it from my grandmother. No other owners.

It is a 2002 Subaru Outback Sedan H6.20 with 76,000 miles

The interior needs a detail, otherwise there is only minor damage on the rear bumper from backing into the garage without looking (I know) but no accidents or dents. I recently had the alternator rebuilt, replaced the battery, and a fuse. It runs but I wouldn't be surprised if it needed more work now or in the near future.

Assuming my memory is accurate and it needs work, what is the minimum I should sell it for after getting any additional priority maintenance fixed?

Mechanical Help No Crank. No Start.

• Upvotes

Since mid-July our 2016 BRZ has experienced a "No crank, No Start".

It's an auto transmission.

This is intermittent.

Has happened 6 times within 3 months.

Tested the brake lights which work %100, the dashboard shows the correct gears, battery is 14.6 volts while running, and car starts in neutral or park 99% of the time.

Before getting the car diagnosed, is it likely that the culprit is the starter relay in the fuse box ?

If not, what have you found to be a common cause on an auto trans ?

Thank you in advance

Mechanical Help Re-occurring P0019 Code on ‘17 Impreza w/~100k miles

Hey yall, so my 2017 Impreza keeps throwing this code. Ive looked it up and apparently there is an ECM flash update that is supposed to help with this issue. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue on any of their vehicles, because on the service bulletin I found about it it listed a few other models and years.

Main Symptoms:

*As car gets close to oil change it throws this code, I can clear it and it will come back randomly; could be 20 Miles, could be 200.

*When check engine light is on the car runs rougher, but if I clear it the engine seems to go back to normal.

The funds are kinda low ATM, so I want to know is this an issue I should just keep dealing with, or something I need to get fixed right away. Thanks!

Mechanical Help Does a 2026 Subaru Forester Premium need additional undercoating or rust protection?

Hi everyone!
We recently bought a brand-new 2026 Subaru Forester Premium, and I’m wondering if we should do anything extra to protect the undercarriage from rust.
We live in New Hampshire, where winters can be pretty harsh and roads are heavily treated with salt.
Is the factory rust protection on the 2026 Forester good enough, or would you recommend additional undercoating or rustproofing?
If additional protection is necessary, why? What type of treatment would you recommend, and are there any products or methods we should avoid?
I’d especially love to hear from Subaru owners who live in New England or other areas with snowy, salty winters.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
