I'm going to be rambling here since I'm bored and I can't go to sleep yet
so I picked up a 113k km CPO certified 2023 Tech package back in April at the local Subaru dealership for a steal, along with an extended 3-year /36,000 km warranty on car/tires/rims
I did get a the EV malfunction message pop up twice (once in August and another on Thanksgiving) but I assumed that was because of my lead acid battery, which isn't covered under this warranty. But it wasn't too big of a problem, I'd turn off the car, plug in a jump starter that I keep with me for a few seconds and then I turn it back on and the errors would disappear. I did plan to buy a Costco AGM battery last week, which I thought would resolve the issues.
I did complain about the car leaking battery coolant twice previously to the dealer and they assured me it was the system burping itself since they did a complete fluid drain during the CPO process so they topped it up twice and they gave it back to me.
Last Thanksgiving I popped a tire because I ran over a nail so I decided to tow and drop the car off at the dealer, to use the tire warranty and on key envelope I just listed down a number of the issues I've noticed:
-Battery coolant going down again
- I did notice a very minor minor vibration at highway speeds, but I thought that was due to the tires being misbalanced again (dealership didn't properly balance the tires the first time)
The day after, the service advisor called me up and they said there's been an internal leak which surprised me because well "why didn't you didn't check this the first two times I complained" and I didn't notice any leaks in my driveway. I'm thinking they messed up the the battery coolant flush during the CPO process.
So the dealer's pushing me to pay the damn warranty deductible but I'm pushing back saying that "I brought this up during the three month CPO warranty period twice and the dealership didn't fix it then. So this is on you guys"
And along with that I got a call the next day because they're saying that the front motor is failing which was surprising but would explain the unoccasional minor vibration and minor noise showing up at highway speeds.
They're saying they're going to have to bring a motor in from Japan and reading online, the forums and even here in Reddit it looks like it might take a few months for it to come by.
In the meantime I'm saddled with a gas car which sucks because this is a pretty bad time to pay gas prices lol, but hey maybe the EV malfunction error was probably not because of the lead acid battery? I bought one of those Bluetooth 12 volt battery monitors from AliExpress for 12 bucks so I can monitor it.
And I've learned my lesson. I just bought a quabity OBD2 Bluetooth adapter, So I can use that to diagnose messages instead of just making assumptions
Did anyone else go through this process here in Canada with the front motor failing at least?
