Hey guys, so if anyone here has played Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 we know there's a character a squirrel named Conker. After Diddy Kong Racing Conker would go to have his own game for the N64 however the game wasn't made for kiddies because it ended up being called Conker's Bad Fur Day a rated M game for the N64. I want to know how Conker became an iconic M for mature game for the N64 and why the game is so expensive?

As for me; it most definitely was "Yoshi's Story"! What about the rest of you?

I went with my brother who is a coach for highschool waterpolo tournament in a different city and dropped by to a weekend garage sale and was able to pick all of these up for an amazing price I don’t think she knew what she had.
Anyways can’t wait to play these games :)

When the N64 came out, polygons and 3D worlds were the hype and 2D sprites were old and uninteresting. I kinda regret thougu that we never got an in-between generation of Nintendo games with superior 2D sprites than what the SNES was capable of. The SNES has great looking 2D games, but it pales in comparison to the Neo Geo which was able to push out massive amounts of huge, pixel perfect and animated sprites at butter-smooth 60fps.
The N64 came out 7 years later than the Neo Geo and while much cheaper has more compute and ram. If demand and developer focus wouldn't have shifted towards polygonal rendering, could we have had 2D games on it of Neo Geo quality on the N64 hardware?
Looking at some 2D games like Killer Instinct or Mischief maker, they really do not compare in visual quality and I wonder whether that was just the devs not utilising the hardware properly or whether it wasn't actually capable of this. Was the 4KB texture memory per draw call the problem so the rendering would get draw-call limited if the sprites were split up? Did it have a worse fill rate than the Neo Geo? Or was it mainly lack of skill on the developers part?

Pictured above are my settings for Halo-64 Multiplayer. This nets me 4 bots @ 320x240 and outdoor areas working. Ironically if I load a team deathmatch with no bots, I still crash. On a real N64 I can get around 15 FPS. On my M64 I can push these settings higher and get close to 25 FPS with overclocking.
Another thing. Normally I'm against throwing away the included SD card for the SummerCart as that's a waste. From my experience it's actually a good card...UNLESS, you're playing a ROM with streaming assets. Halo and Junk Runner to a lesser degree. If you plan to play this game, get a branded card. Even a ONN branded card is a better choice for this project.
I'm done rambling Let's compare notes. I believe an update is coming to address more RDP crashing issues but for now, we might as well figure out what's possible with what's available.

I will delete #3. I haven't played all the way through any Paper Mario game before. Gonna give it a shot...
Picked up a couple N64 games and some other items at the flea market today. Star Fox 64 is super clean. Paper Mario will need some love. Both genuine. I'm not sure if I ever knew Zip 750 was a thing that existed. I told the vendor guy about Mr. Backup Z64 and how it used Zip 100 disks. One of these disks will hold more than the CD-R disc in my Doctor V64!

DAMN! I wasted labels printing with an old date on there.

Hello all. Over the last while I have done a lot of work to this n64. I got it with no picture and after opening it up I noticed it had bulging caps and liquid damage. After replacing the rcp, power switch, cleaning the contacts and recapping the full board I have a working console.
After getting it working I realized that my upscaler only takes component and not composite so I tried to install an rgb mod from ali express. After finishing it up I can't get any component output from it. Although composite still works.
I can see 0.85 volts ac on the video pins and have ground and 5v power to the board. Unfortunately I don't have an ociliscope so I can't see if there is any actual signal. The board is a -03 with a VDC-NUS chip. I don't think I did anything wrong aside from some ugly solder joints going to the daughter board. Everything has continuity as well as no shorts. My board also has components for sync.
I feel like I'm losing my mind and have been beating my head against this for a while. Does anyone have any ideas?
Edit: memyfofum pointed out rgb and ypbpr are different signals. The mod is probably working fine and I just need to get a scart cable instead. My bad bois.

Hey everyone! I got my first N64 today and I got the original Mario party to go with it. I got everything at a store out of state while on a trip and while I got home tonight I booted it up. Everything was working great until after about 10 minutes the screen has a weird visual glitch and then freezes/crashes. I tried it again after the first time and same thing after about 10 minutes it did it again. The cartridge looked in pretty rough shape but I work at GameStop and have seen worse that work. I cleaned the outside and as much of the pins as I could with a clorox wipe. I haven’t tried 91% isopropyl alcohol yet. I’m hoping that’s the issue but it’s weird it runs perfectly fine and then after about 10 minutes it crashes. I can’t return/exchange anything since the store was about 6 hours away. Any suggestions?

Im currently living in Tokyo for a few years and brought over my N64. Well the power cord frayed and broke off and I am in need of a new one. Would a japan n64 power cord work okay in a us system. I know outlets run different here in Japan. Or does anyone have any knowledge of where I can pick up a power cord locally? Thanks!

I have had games that were japanese and i just moved the motherboard to an american casing so it fits in my american console. And it works. I play my japanese pokemon stadium 2 in my n64.
I was in japan a while ago and bought 2 custom robo games and then brought it home and did the same switcheroo. But they wont turn on at all? Is this likely the games were already broken, or maybe theres something i dont know that one of yall might? Anyone able to help me with this? Otherwise its just paperweight...

I’ve wanted to get into the Legend of Zelda series for a long time. It’s a cultural phenomenon and I really want to understand it. I picked this game up and have been trying my best to give it a good go. But I can’t get around the feeling that it’s just…. So boring.
So much of the game feels like “walk very slowly across the map to reach your destination only to encounter an incredibly obtuse puzzle that you struggle with for 20 minutes only to realize you can’t even do it because you’re child link instead of adult link. The REAL puzzle is actually over here. And it’s solution is equally obtuse.”
I’m finding it hard to get into the world when I feel like I’m struggling to figure things out without a guide. But when I use one I feel like I’m missing out on the whole exploration element that’s supposed to suck you in and trigger your imagination and critical thinking skills.
I put the game down for a few months and then picked it back up this morning to try to dedicate myself to it… but I’ve been playing for close to an hour and even after accomplishing something I struggled with last time, I didn’t get a feeling of satisfaction. Because as soon as I solved how to get to Zora’s Domain, suddenly now I’ve got to find their princess. I went around lighting all the torches in the place, thinking myself clever for realizing it soon only to see that the torches don’t go anywhere and just burn out. I then realized that I wasn’t having fun and I’ve been bored as crap this whole time. Everything fun in the game seems trapped behind being adult link. I’ve been holding out until I can get to that point but now I’m just kinda sick of it.
The loop is running hither thither and yon only to discover I don’t have the item I need once I get there is wearing on me. There are a lot of elements from this game that I like, but I’ve not been enchanted by it at all. And after having a hard time getting into other Legend of Zelda games, I’m wondering if this franchise just isn’t for me.
Is there something wrong with the way I’m playing? Why am I so bored?
EDIT: Wow that was a lot of fast responses. And very detailed ones too. I really appreciate you guys being so understanding and considerate with me. I was worried I would be stepping on toes with this one. I think it's possible it could just not be my type of game, but I don't quite want to completely give up on it. I'm going to follow your all's advice and try to invest in one of the 2D Zeldas for a while. And I probably will end up using a guide. I really want the printed Prima's Official Guide but that thing is SOO expensive!! Anyway, thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it.
