I remember I played BattleTanx: GA all the time when I was a kid. I thought I had it pretty thoroughly beat. I just recently got an Analogue 3d, so I figured I could try BattleTanx out. I specifically remembered a way to clip outside the map on the 3rd level (Truck Stop) that I accidentally discovered all those years ago. If you turbo the MotoTank from the very first ramp into the first building you see, you can bounce off it and slide onto the guardrail outside the boundary of the map.
So after about 15 minutes of attempts, I successfully did the bounce jump. I was rolling around the outside of the map, when I came across a car in the distance. I didn't think anything of it because there are other cars outside the boundary. So I destroy this one special car, and then suddenly there's yellow text on the screen from the developers giving some "Nuggets of Wisdom".
It was a little bit like opening up a time capsule. As a dev myself, it was funny to see lines like, "despite upper management, we will ship a quality product on time." There's a Star Wars quote too: "Oh I'm afraid the cheats will be quite operational when your friends arrive."
I don't know what to say other than this feels surreal. I doubt that the devs intended to make someone reflect on their life in such a way so many years after the game was released, but it really felt special. Anyways, go play some N64.
