I take stills but do small bursts, and don't ever shoot video. For a Z8, what would cards would work well but not be too expensive?
I see lots of recommendations for "best" cards but they are quite pricey. Like very pricey (ref: alikgriffon's site).
I am coming from Fuji-world. And there, I'm just using SD cards, even on their top of the line X-H2S.
With the X-H2S, I can blast away without a care and its buffer never fills up with my style of shooting. I normally take stills but occasionally when I make portraits, I will shoot at 5 fps for multiple short bursts to ensure I don't inadvertently catch someone blinking.
I don't shoot sports or do birding where you need high FPS and long bursts.
The cards I am using are mid-grade Samsung 512MB Pro Ultimate with markings that say: MicroSD XC 1, U-3, A2, V30.
And previously I used 256 GB Samsung EVO Select cards, which also have the same markings: MicroSD XC 1, U-3, A2, V30.
Will these 2 models of SD card work well with the Z8?
The Fuji is an APS-C camera. I shoot RAW+JPG, with the file sizes of 50+25 MB respectively, so about 75 MB total per shutter actuation. The X-H2S has a large buffer that takes my short bursts in stride and I never run out. Though after a number of bursts, the "writing to memory card" light is lit up for a while (sometimes quite a while) while it saves the photos to the SD card.
How large are Z8 files? Raw? JPEG? Is a pair a lot more than 75 MB? I know the megapixels are a lot more than the Fuji, which is 24 MP.
My biggest concern is how many shots can I take at 5 fps before the buffer fills and the camera slows down to a crawl? I have bad memories of my otherwise favorite D750 where, if I recall, it was only about 20 or 25 shots before it slowed down to a serious crawl, though that was a long time ago and memory cards were not that fast back then.
I love the fact that I can fire away in spray-and-pray (within reason) on my X-H2S without it every slowing down dramatically.
I am hoping that a Z8 can give the same performance with a modestly priced SD card like the ones that I have been using.
And if those cards will end up being too slow, then I am looking forward to hearing about 512MB compact flash B cards that are not too expensive. My cursory look shows that they are eye-wateringly expensive compared to the mid-grade Samsung SD cards.
